Abstract

Indonesia is currently experiencing a critical literacy crisis, particularly in frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged regions. Contributing factors include limited access to reading materials, ineffective library management, and declining student engagement in literacy activities. This study aimed to develop Indonesian language teaching materials incorporating local wisdom stories to enhance the reading skills of fifth-grade elementary students. A Research and Development (RD) approach was adopted, utilizing the ADDIE model encompassing five phases: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The study was conducted at SD Negeri 15 Melayang, involving 21 students and 3 teachers. Data were collected using observations, interviews, questionnaires, and standardized reading tests. Analytical techniques included descriptive statistics, normality and homogeneity tests, paired sample t-tests, and independent sample t-tests. The developed teaching materials received favorable evaluations, with content experts rating them at 83.32% and media experts at 80.31%. Practical implementation scores were also high, with students giving 83.55% and teachers 90.97%. Statistical analysis revealed a significant improvement in students’ reading skills following the intervention, with a p-value of 0.001. These results demonstrate that Indonesian language teaching materials infused with local wisdom effectively enhance reading proficiency among fifth-grade students. The integration of culturally relevant narratives supports improved engagement and learning outcomes, offering a promising solution to Indonesia’s literacy challenges.

Abstract

Uncontrolled gadget use among students, particularly those from underprivileged families, presents a growing concern due to limited access to digital literacy education. This study aims to develop a Deep Dialogue-based learning film as an educational medium to enhance digital literacy and promote responsible device use among students and their parents. The study employed a Research and Development (RD) approach, following a series of stages: needs analysis, design, product development, testing, and evaluation. Participants included students from underprivileged families and their parents. Data were gathered through observations, interviews, and questionnaires and analyzed descriptively to assess the product's effectiveness. The results demonstrate that the Deep Dialogue learning film effectively increased awareness of digital literacy among both students and parents. It also supported parents in guiding and controlling their children’s use of digital devices more effectively. The film’s accessibility and relevance to the target audience contributed to its positive reception and usability. The Deep Dialogue approach successfully engaged both students and parents in meaningful discussions about digital responsibility, self-control, and the wise use of technology. Its integration into a film medium made the content more relatable and accessible, especially for families with limited educational resources. The developed learning film proved effective in improving digital literacy and device-use management in underprivileged families. Future research should focus on expanding the film's content to include broader aspects of digital literacy and character education.

Abstract

The integration of technology in science learning has become essential in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0, particularly in primary education. Visionary leadership by school principals is believed to play a critical role in facilitating the adoption of science-based innovative technology in classrooms. This study employed a quantitative approach using a survey design involving 100 elementary school teachers and principals in East Wawonii who have implemented science-based technology in teaching. Data were collected through a validated Likert-scale questionnaire measuring perceptions of visionary leadership and the extent of technology adoption. Correlation and simple linear regression analyses were conducted using SPSS. The findings revealed a strong and significant relationship between visionary leadership and the adoption of science-based technology (r = 0.87, p = 0.001). Regression analysis confirmed that visionary leadership significantly predicts technology adoption (β = 0.716, p = 0.001), with an R-squared value of 0.757, indicating that 75.7% of the variance in technology adoption can be explained by the leadership variable. These results suggest that visionary leadership is a key driver in promoting technology integration in science learning. Principals who articulate clear long-term goals, inspire innovation, and support teacher development contribute significantly to creating a conducive environment for technology adoption in primary schools. The study highlights the importance of leadership training that focuses on technological awareness and innovation management.

Abstract

The increasing exposure of primary school students to digital media raises concerns about its influence on character development and social skills. This study examines the effects of digital media on students at Sekolah Indonesia Jeddah, focusing on responsibility, empathy, and discipline. Additionally, it explores the role of social-emotional learning (SEL) in mitigating negative effects and enhancing social behaviors. A mixed-method approach was employed, incorporating surveys, interviews, and behavioral observations. Data were collected from primary school students to assess their digital media consumption patterns and their impact on character development and social interactions. Findings reveal a significant relationship between digital media usage and students' character development. Increased screen time was associated with reduced face-to-face interactions, affecting empathy and collaboration. However, structured SEL interventions were found to enhance students’ social skills, promoting responsibility and discipline despite high digital engagement. The study highlights the dual impact of digital media, where excessive usage can hinder interpersonal skills, while controlled exposure, combined with SEL strategies, fosters positive character traits. The integration of SEL into primary education emerges as a key approach to balancing digital consumption and social-emotional development. The findings emphasize the need for a balanced media exposure strategy and SEL integration in primary education to support students' holistic development. Educators and parents should collaborate to regulate media use and implement SEL programs that nurture essential social and emotional competencies.

Abstract

Character education plays a critical role in shaping students’ values and behaviors, serving as a preventive measure against social issues such as promiscuity. In Merauke, a region with distinct cultural and social dynamics, addressing adolescent behavior through character development is essential. This qualitative study employed a case study design to explore the impact of character education on preventing promiscuity among high school students in Merauke. Conducted in 2023, the research involved students, parents, and teachers at a local high school. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews and direct observations, then analyzed thematically to examine the roles of educators and families in guiding students’ moral development. Findings indicate that effective character education—integrating moral values, ethics, and social responsibility—significantly contributes to reducing risky behaviors among students. Collaboration between schools, parents, and communities enhances the effectiveness of these programs. Participants reported noticeable improvements in students’ sense of responsibility and decision-making. However, challenges such as limited parental awareness and the pervasive influence of technology hinder optimal outcomes. The study highlights the importance of tailoring character education to the unique cultural context of Merauke. To address ongoing challenges, greater efforts are needed to involve families and integrate local values into the curriculum. Strengthening character education holistically may offer a sustainable strategy for mitigating adolescent promiscuity in the region.

Abstract

Improving students' learning outcomes in mathematics, particularly multiplication, remains a challenge in elementary education. This study investigates the effectiveness of the rabdology board as a visual and interactive learning tool to enhance the multiplication skills of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 16 Panjak, West Kalimantan. A combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches was used. The intervention included introducing the rabdology board, demonstrating its use, providing directed practice, facilitating group discussions, and evaluating student learning outcomes. Data were collected through learning outcome tests and classroom observations. Findings indicate a significant improvement in students' multiplication learning outcomes, increasing from 58% to 80% after using the Rabdology Board. Additionally, students demonstrated higher motivation and active engagement in learning. The study highlights the effectiveness of interactive and visual teaching aids in enhancing students’ comprehension and engagement in mathematics. The rabdology board provided a structured approach that facilitated faster multiplication calculations and improved conceptual understanding. The rabdology board is an effective tool for improving multiplication learning outcomes in elementary students. Its integration into mathematics education can serve as an alternative strategy to enhance student performance and engagement. Further research could explore its application in other mathematical concepts and educational settings.
