Abstract

The implementation of the independent learning paradigm within the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program requires teaching materials that are flexible, engaging, and aligned with professional competency demands. In Islamic Religious Education (PAI), existing materials often lack visual support, contextual relevance, and higher-order thinking integration, which may limit students’ independent learning readiness. This study aimed to develop and evaluate Canva-based PAI teaching materials grounded in the independent learning paradigm for PPG students at a State Islamic University. A Research and Development (RD) approach based on the Borg and Gall model was employed, focusing on product validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Product validity was assessed by three expert validators consisting of subject-matter, language, and media experts. Practicality was evaluated through questionnaires completed by lecturers and supervising teachers. Effectiveness testing involved 120 in-service PPG Batch 1 students at UIN SYAHADA Padangsidimpuan in 2024. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, and learning outcome tests. The developed teaching materials, designed as Canva-based PowerPoint slides integrated with a Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) question bank aligned with the Knowledge Test blueprint, demonstrated strong evaluation results. The average validity score was 4.26 out of 5, indicating high validity. Practicality achieved an average score of 4.37, categorized as very practical, while effectiveness reached an average score of 4.60, categorized as very effective. Additionally, the graduation rate increased from 84.5% prior to implementation to 99.9% after use of the materials. These findings indicate that the developed Canva-based PAI teaching materials are valid, practical, and supportive of independent learning in the PPG context, offering a promising instructional resource for Islamic teacher education.

Abstract

Discrimination against girls in Indonesia is a multifaceted phenomenon reflecting deeply rooted gender inequalities within the nation's social and patriarchal structures. This research analyzes various dimensions of discrimination experienced by girls, ranging from access to education and healthcare to social participation and protection from gender-based violence. Utilizing a qualitative approach through literature study and secondary data analysis, this research identifies the structural and cultural factors that perpetuate gender injustice. The results indicate that although Indonesia has made significant progress in formal regulations and gender mainstreaming, substantial disparities in the treatment of girls remain, especially in rural areas and communities with strong patriarchal values. Findings highlight that stereotypes, child marriage, and domestic workloads are primary barriers to optimizing girls' potential. The study concludes that a holistic strategy involving legislative harmonization, educational transformation, and multisectoral collaboration is essential for fostering an inclusive environment for girls in Indonesia

Abstract

This article reconstructs the semantic field of tazkiyah al-nafs in the Qur’an as a conceptual foundation for Islamic psychology. It addresses a methodological problem in contemporary Islamic psychological discourse: tazkiyah is often used as a normative or therapeutic concept before its Qur’anic semantic structure has been carefully mapped. Combining thematic exegesis (tafsīr mauḍūʻī) with semantic-field analysis, the article examines the root z-k-w, its morphological distribution, contextual anchor loci, oppositional relations, and exegetical corroboration. It identifies QS al-Syams (91):7–10 as the primary structural locus of the field, where nafs, taqwā–fujūr, tazkiyah–tadsiyah, and falāḥ–khaibah are arranged in a layered moral structure. The study argues that tazkiyah cannot be reduced to purification alone. While taṭhīr primarily denotes the removal of impurity, tazkiyah includes purification and exceeds it through cultivation, growth, moral elevation, and teleological orientation toward falāḥ. By distinguishing tazkiyah from related concepts such as taṭhīr, taubah, and iṣlāḥ, the article offers a more precise Qur’anic account of moral formation. Its contribution is therefore pre-clinical and conceptual: it provides a Qur’anic semantic foundation for Islamic psychology without claiming to establish a finalized therapeutic model.

Abstract

This community-based qualitative study examines the role of Muslim women in strengthening religious moderation as a lived social practice within a Muslim minority community in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Data were collected through participant observations, focus group discussions, and in-depth interviews with Muslim women actively involved in majelis taklim and other community religious activities. The findings reveal that participants initially experienced limited understanding of religious moderation, social pressures associated with living in a multi-religious environment, and restricted access to gender-responsive religious education. Through community-based empowerment processes, women gradually reinterpreted religious moderation as a social and ethical responsibility rather than merely a formal religious obligation. As such they transformed into religious agency emerged as informal religious authority, acting as family educators, social mediators, and promoters of harmony. The originality of this study lies in conceptualizing religious moderation as a lived social practices negotiated through everyday experiences. This new perspective contributes to discussions on lived religion, women’s religious agency, and community-based empowerment while highlighting the importance of gender-sensitive religious education in strengthening social cohesion. Keywords: Religious Moderation, Muslim Women, Lived Religion, Community-Based Empowerment.
