Abstract

This study aims to analyze early childhood teachers’ strategies in managing classrooms to foster school readiness during the transition to primary school. The participants consisted of four early childhood education (ECE) teachers in Purwakarta Regency. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation, and analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis model. The findings reveal that teachers employed various strategies, including routine habituation, play-based learning, and the reinforcement of socio-emotional skills. Challenges encountered include limited facilities, diverse levels of children’s readiness, and insufficient collaboration with parents and primary schools. A critical analysis using Paulo Freire’s framework highlights the importance of participatory and transformative approaches in supporting children’s transitions. The study emphasizes that school readiness encompasses not only academic aspects but also socio-emotional development and the support of a holistic educational ecosystem. The novelty of this research lies in its focus on teachers’ classroom practices in building school readiness, offering valuable insights for the development of early childhood education practices and policies in Indonesia.

Abstract

The success of early childhood education in rural areas cannot be separated from teacher resilience. The research aims to explore scientific insights into the urgency, influencing factors and efforts to increase the resilience of early childhood teachers in rural areas. The study used the Systematic Literature Review method by applying the PRISMA Protocol (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis. The results show that early childhood teachers' resilience is needed to support their critical role in providing quality early childhood education amid unique challenges such as limited resources and isolation. Factors that are at the core of teacher resilience include emotion regulation, impulse control, optimism, causal analysis, empathy, self-efficacy, and "reaching out". Efforts to increase their resilience include a range of strategies, including providing adequate support networks, professional development opportunities, and access to mental health resources. By addressing these influencing factors and implementing targeted interventions, we can empower early childhood teachers in rural areas to effectively meet challenges and maintain high-quality teaching practices for rural children.

Abstract

Resilience is a critical competency for Early Childhood Education (ECE) teachers, particularly in adapting to evolving educational demands. This study examines how participation in the Mobilizing Teacher Education program fosters resilience among ECE teachers. A qualitative case study approach was employed, involving four mobilizing teachers from Batch 7 in Purwakarta district. Participants were selected based on their active involvement in the program. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis. Triangulation and data validation tests were conducted to ensure reliability. Findings indicate that the program positively influences teacher resilience, enhancing their ability to adapt to 21st-century educational challenges, strengthening leadership skills, and improving professional competencies. However, participants faced several challenges, including limited internet access, insufficient school support, conflicts between program requirements and personal responsibilities, financial constraints, and teamwork difficulties. Time management issues often led to stress and health concerns. The study highlights the need to sustain and improve the Mobilizing Teacher Education initiative by addressing structural challenges. Enhancing institutional support, optimizing task allocation, and providing financial or logistical assistance can help mitigate obstacles. While the program fosters resilience and professional growth, its sustainability requires adjustments to reduce teacher burden. Restructuring workloads and improving resource allocation are essential to ensure a more effective and enduring professional development experience.
