Abstract

The flash floods that hit Padang City at the end of November 2025 not only caused physical damage, but also affected the psychological and social conditions of the community. This study aims to analyze the role of religious values in helping communities face and recover from the disaster. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data was collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation in areas affected by flash floods. Informants included affected communities, religious leaders, volunteers, and disaster management agencies. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles, Huberman, and SaldaƱa model, including data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that religious values played a significant role in three main aspects. First, religious values provide a framework of meaning for society in interpreting disasters as tests, destiny, or means of self-improvement, thereby helping to stabilize psychological conditions. Second, religious values encourage positive religious coping strategies such as prayer, trust in God, and collective worship activities that strengthen calm and hope. Third, religious values strengthen individual and community resilience through social solidarity, mutual cooperation, and spiritual support from religious institutions. These findings indicate that religious values play a strategic role in post-disaster recovery and can form the basis for developing faith-based psychosocial support programs.

Abstract

The epistemology of knowledge is a crucial foundation in the development of Islamic education because it determines the perspective on the source, validity, and purpose of knowledge. A persistent problem in contemporary Islamic education is the dichotomy between religious and general knowledge, which has resulted in fragmentation of knowledge and a weakening of the integration of Islamic values. This study aims to analyze the epistemology of knowledge in Islamic education through an examination of the concepts of dichotomy, integration, and interconnection of knowledge. This study uses a qualitative approach with library research methods, examining the works of classical and contemporary Muslim thinkers and scientific journal articles relevant to the philosophy of knowledge and Islamic education. Data analysis techniques include content analysis and conceptual-philosophical analysis to uncover the epistemological assumptions and educational implications of these concepts. The results of the study indicate that the dichotomy of knowledge is a historical construct influenced by the paradigm of Western secularism and is inconsistent with the Islamic worldview. The concept of integration of knowledge seeks to unite religious and general knowledge within the framework of monotheism, while the approach of interconnection of knowledge emphasizes dialogue and interdisciplinary connections in understanding the complexity of reality. This research confirms that the integrative-interconnective paradigm is a relevant epistemological approach to reconstruct Islamic education to make it more holistic, valuable, and responsive to the challenges of the times.

Abstract

The Qur'an provides a very strong motivational basis for education. The verses regarding the command to read (sura al-Alaq verses 1-5), think (sura az-Zumar verse 9), and seek knowledge (sura at-taubah verse 122) contain encouragement that awakens enthusiasm for learning. Apart from that, Allah's promise to raise the status of those with knowledge (Al-Quran surah al-Mujadilah verse 11) becomes a religious stimulus that strengthens students' motivation. The Al-Qur'an also presents the targhib (promise of reward) method (Al-Quran Surah Fatir verses 29-30) and tarhib (warning of punishment) as a balanced motivational approach, so that students are not only driven by the hope for goodness, but also by awareness of the consequences if they neglect to seek knowledge. The hadith of the Prophet sallallaahu alaihi wasallam complements the Qur'anic motivation by emphasizing the obligation to seek knowledge, the primacy of ulama, and the encouragement to continue learning throughout life. These hadiths clearly demonstrate that Islam places education as a highly valued form of worship in the sight of Allah. The Prophet's motivational messages also emphasize that knowledge is light, while ignorance is darkness, making the pursuit of knowledge a path to enlightenment. The exemplary behavior of the Prophet and his companions also serves as practical motivation for students to embrace knowledge as a way of life.
