Abstract

Providing knowledge about nutritious food to young children is an essential step in shaping healthy eating habits and supporting their optimal growth and development. This community service activity aimed to enhance the understanding of students at TK A Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal Bolihuangga, Gorontalo Regency, regarding the principles of balanced nutrition through engaging learning methods appropriate to their developmental stage. The program was implemented on October 14, 2025, involving 17 students, and utilized several approaches, including material delivery, educational video presentations, and interactive games that required students to sort nutritious and non-nutritious foods. The results showed that children became more capable of identifying healthy food types, actively participated in all activities, and demonstrated improved comprehension through visual and motor-based tasks. The learning-through-play approach proved effective in increasing students’ enthusiasm and fostering positive behaviors related to food choices. Overall, this activity provided an enjoyable and meaningful nutrition education experience that has the potential to support children’s health and learning abilities in the future.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to improve the physical and psychological health of the elderly through elderly exercise (senam lansia) conducted in Heledulaa Selatan Village, Gorontalo City. Based on preliminary observations, most elderly people in the area rarely engage in regular physical activity, resulting in a high prevalence of degenerative diseases, insomnia, and anxiety. The activity was carried out on August 24, 2025, at Nabila Farma Pharmacy and involved 18 elderly participants. The implementation consisted of preparation, exercise sessions, health education, and evaluation through participant interviews. The results showed that after participating in the exercise, 83.33% of the elderly felt happier compared to before. Regular exercise helped reduce anxiety, improve mood, and enhance physical fitness. Physiologically, exercise stimulates the release of endorphins, which promote relaxation and feelings of happiness. Therefore, elderly exercise proved to have a positive impact on both physical and psychological health and is recommended to be conducted regularly and sustainably. Keywords: elderly exercise, anxiety, psychological health, elderly fitness, community service

Abstract

Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for babies and is recommended by the WHO to be given exclusively for the first six months of life. However, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Gorontalo is still low, including in the working area of the East City Health Centre. One of the causes is the lack of knowledge among mothers about the benefits, breastfeeding techniques, breast milk storage, and stress management during breastfeeding. This activity aims to increase the knowledge of pregnant women through education using video and PowerPoint media in the BESTIE ASI (Breast Care, Essential Nutrients, Storage, Technique, and Stress Managed ASI) programme. The activity methods include planning, preparation, implementation of counselling, and evaluation using pre-tests and post-tests. There were 15 pregnant women participating in the activity. The evaluation results showed an increase in the average knowledge score from 46.67 on the pre-test to 70.67 on the post-test. Video and PowerPoint media were effective in increasing knowledge because they were able to present the material in an interesting, interactive, and easy-to-understand manner. Thus, educational activities using audio-visual media have been proven to support the improvement of pregnant women's readiness for exclusive breastfeeding. Keywords: exclusive breastfeeding, pregnant women, health education, video, PowerPoint

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behaviour (PHBS) is a promotional strategy to improve public health through behavioural change at the household level. Initial observations in Hutadaa Village indicate low implementation of PHBS, characterised by smoking indoors, inadequate sanitation, and suboptimal waste management. This activity aims to increase community understanding and awareness of PHBS implementation through educational interventions. The community service was carried out on 7 September 2025 as part of the UNG Thematic Community Service Programme using an educational approach through presentations, educational videos, and interactive discussions. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' knowledge and motivation to implement PHBS indicators, such as proper hand washing practices, use of healthy toilets, consumption of nutritious food, and control of risky behaviours. Thus, community-based education has proven to be effective as an initial approach to health behaviour change. However, the sustainability of PHBS implementation requires environmental support, assistance, and cross-sector collaboration.
