Abstract

This study aims to analyze the model of science and religion integration in the Muhammadiyah curriculum through a philosophical and pedagogical perspective. This study uses a qualitative approach with library research methods, which examines various primary and secondary sources in the form of scientific works, curriculum documents, and relevant previous research. The results of the study indicate that the integration of science and religion in the Muhammadiyah curriculum is based on the monotheistic paradigm that emphasizes the unity of sources of knowledge and rejects the dichotomy between religious knowledge and general knowledge. Philosophically, this integration serves as an epistemological and axiological foundation that directs the development of science so that it is oriented towards ethical values, spirituality, and the welfare of the community. Pedagogically, the integration of science and religion requires a contextual, reflective, and meaningful learning approach, emphasizing a balance between the domains of attitude, knowledge, and skills. Teachers have a strategic role as agents of integration and role models of values, not only as instructors but also as murabbi (leaders) who guide the character development of students. However, the implementation of science and religion integration still faces challenges, particularly the influence of digital culture, which tends to shift the orientation of education from character building to solely academic achievement. Therefore, strengthening the integrative paradigm and adaptive pedagogical innovation is an urgent need so that the Muhammadiyah curriculum can produce a generation that is intellectually superior, spiritually strong, and has noble morals.

Abstract

Parents' role as murobbi plays a strategic role in maintaining the continuity of character formation in students, particularly during vacations when students return to their families. Vacations are a critical period due to changes in the environment, routines, and supervision systems that can potentially weaken the internalization of character values developed in Islamic boarding schools. This study aims to analyze the role of parents as murobbi, the parenting strategies implemented during vacations, and the supporting and inhibiting factors in character formation in students. This research used a qualitative approach with a case study conducted at Al-Kaaffah Islamic Boarding School, Kuningan, West Java. Data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation studies with informants including parents, boarding school administrators, and students. Data analysis was conducted interactively through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, using triangulation techniques to maintain data validity. The research findings indicate that parents who actively fulfill the role of murobbi (leaders) are able to maintain the continuity of their students' character through role models, religious supervision, instilling discipline, and ongoing educational communication. However, variations in parental commitment and readiness are inhibiting factors in the sustainability of character development. This research emphasizes the importance of strengthening synergy between Islamic boarding schools and families in maintaining the ongoing character education of students.

Abstract

Moral challenges among school-age children have intensified in the digital era, making moral intelligence a crucial educational outcome. This study investigates the effects of values education and religious habituation on students’ moral intelligence at MI Al Qur’anul Hakim, Probolinggo, Indonesia. A quantitative approach with a causal explanatory survey design was employed. Data were collected from 70 students selected through purposive sampling from a population of 286. The instruments were closed-ended Likert-scale questionnaires measuring values education, religious habituation, and moral intelligence. Item validity was examined using item–total correlation, while internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach’s Alpha, showing strong reliability across all scales (α > 0.90). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression with prerequisite tests. The findings reveal that values education has a positive and significant effect on students’ moral intelligence (β = 0.559, p < 0.001) and emerges as the strongest predictor. Religious habituation also contributes positively and significantly (β = 0.258, p = 0.043). Simultaneously, both predictors significantly influence moral intelligence (F = 52.0, p < 0.001), explaining 60.8% of the variance (R² = 0.608). These results highlight that strengthening students’ moral intelligence requires systematic integration of values education within classroom instruction and school culture, supported by meaningful religious habituation that emphasizes internalization rather than procedural routines. The study contributes empirical evidence to the growing literature on moral development in Islamic elementary education and offers practical implications for school-based character education strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation of the role of the musyrif as a murobbi (leader) in developing the moral integrity and discipline of students at the Al-Kaaffah Islamic Boarding School in Kuningan. The urgency of this research lies in the increasing challenges of developing student character amidst modernization, necessitating a more transformative and relevant development approach. The study used qualitative methods with a descriptive design to explore the direct experiences of musyrifs, students, and pesantren leaders. Data were obtained through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation analysis. The results indicate that the transformation of the musyrif's role is realized through strengthening role models, intensive spiritual guidance, personal communication, and consistent enforcement of discipline. This role significantly influences the internalization of integrity values such as honesty, responsibility, and obedience, while simultaneously enhancing discipline in learning activities and dormitory life. These findings provide a theoretical contribution to the study of pesantren character education, particularly regarding relationship-based and role-model-based development models. This study also emphasizes the importance of improving the capacity of musyrifs so that character development in pesantren can be more effective, adaptive, and sustainable.
