Abstract

This study examines research results in the last ten years on the effect of application-based educational media on mothers' breastfeeding ability. The method used in this literature review is to search for several articles through Pubmed, Proquest, Scopus, Science Direct, and Google Scholar. The results showed that the application of media in breastfeeding education could increase mothers' knowledge, attitudes, and skills in breastfeeding compared to ordinary care. The use of applications as educational media has ease in accessing information; it can be done anytime and anywhere. In conclusion, application-based educational interventions have proven effective in improving mothers' breastfeeding ability. Keywords: Application, Breastfeeding Ability, Educational Media

Abstract

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, and dyslipidemia have become a major health burden in Indonesia, with many cases remaining undiagnosed due to their asymptomatic nature. Early detection through community screening is a key prevention strategy. Objective: This community service activity, 'Gerakan Masyarakat Sehat' (GEMAS), aimed to conduct health screenings for the early detection of NCD risk factors among the residents of Jembrak Village, Semarang Regency. Methods: The activity was carried out on June 14, 2025, by lecturers and students from the Faculty of Health Sciences, Satya Wacana Christian University. Free examinations included blood pressure, random blood glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid levels for 29 residents. Results: The findings revealed a high prevalence of risk factors: 51.8% of participants had above-normal blood pressure (prehypertension and hypertension), 10.7% were identified with prediabetes, 39.2% had dyslipidemia, and 37.9% suffered from hyperuricemia. Many participants exhibited a clustering of more than one risk factor. Conclusion: This screening program effectively unveiled the hidden burden of NCDs within the community. It underscores the importance of proactive early detection programs, with referral to the local primary health center (Puskesmas) being a crucial step for further management and complication prevention.

Abstract

Breast milk is widely recognized as the optimal source of infant nutrition, yet exclusive breastfeeding coverage remains below global and national targets. Maternal knowledge and attitudes, especially among primiparous mothers, are key determinants of breastfeeding practices. Therefore, valid and reliable instruments are essential to measure these factors accurately. Objective to develop and test the validity and reliability of questionnaires assessing knowledge and attitudes toward breastfeeding among primiparous mothers. This study applied a cross-sectional design involving 15 postpartum mothers with normal deliveries at RSUD Dr. Soewardi Kendal. Two instruments were tested: a 16-item knowledge questionnaire and a 15-item attitude questionnaire. Validity was assessed using Pearson’s correlation with r table = 0.514, and reliability was tested using Cronbach’s alpha. The knowledge questionnaire showed 12 valid items with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.833, indicating good internal consistency. The attitude questionnaire produced 12 valid items with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.861, reflecting excellent reliability. Both the knowledge and attitude questionnaires demonstrated strong validity and reliability, making them feasible instruments for assessing breastfeeding-related factors among primiparous mothers in future research.
