Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is the best period of breast feeding intake for infants because it maximizes health benefits for growth and development. However in reality, there are many hindrances for mothers to give exclusive breastfeeding. Negative perceptions from the mothers itself regarding breast milk often caused the low rates of exclusive breastfeeding. Conventional therapies that has been given only solved one problem at a time, while the actual solution is a holistic care which includes mind, body, and soul. Hypnobreastfeeding is one of the preferred therapy that contains holistic care to improve the exclusive breastfeeding. The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of hypnobreastfeeding on exclusive breastfeeding at Mumbulsari Community Health Center, Jember, East Java, Indonesia. This study used pre-experimental design with post-test only design on pregnant women in third trimester. Simple random sampling was used as sampling technique with 16 treatment group and 16 control group which fulfill inclusion and exclusion criteria. The experimental data was collected using observation sheets which then statistically analyzed using bivariate chi-square test. The result of chi-square test showed that p=0,003 (p < 0,05) which shows that hypnobreastfeeding positively influence exclusive breastfeeding. In conclusion, hypnobreastfeeding is strongly suggested as the treatment to improve exclusive breastfeeding on mothers.

Abstract

Infections caused by pathogenic bacteria remain a significant public health concern and may lead to various diseases, including diarrhea. Several bacterial species commonly associated with diarrheal diseases are Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, and Shigella flexneri. The excessive and continuous use of antibiotics has contributed to the emergence of bacterial resistance, highlighting the need to discover new antimicrobial sources. Actinomycetes are microorganisms known for their ability to produce a wide range of secondary metabolites with antibacterial properties. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of secondary metabolites produced by actinomycetes isolated from soil samples collected from the Arboretum of the University of Riau against pathogenic bacteria that cause diarrhea. The actinomycete isolates used in this study were B1.06, B3.13, C2.18, A2.01, and C2.20. Secondary metabolites were extracted using ethyl acetate as the solvent and tested for antibacterial activity using the disc diffusion method. Antibacterial activity was assessed based on the diameter of the inhibition zones formed around the discs. The results demonstrated that all actinomycete isolates were capable of inhibiting the growth of diarrhea-causing pathogenic bacteria, although with varying levels of effectiveness. The inhibition zone diameters were compared with tetracycline susceptibility criteria to determine bacterial sensitivity levels. The antibacterial activity of the actinomycete secondary metabolites was categorized as resistant, intermediate, or sensitive against the tested bacteria.

Abstract

The implementation of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) aspects in the tourism sector still faces major challenges due to the limited risk mitigation facilities and safety education media for tourists. Lumpue Beach as a developing tourist destination has potential dangers that have not been supported by adequate safety facilities. This community service activity aims to increase the capacity of beach managers and staff of Lumpue Village in preparing for K3 risk mitigation and developing a K3 Digital Pocket Book based on Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC). The implementation methods include identification of needs, socialization, application of technology, mentoring, and evaluation. The results of the activity show that the potential hazards at Lumpue Beach were successfully compiled using the HIRARC method and can be accessed through the QR code feature. The participants' knowledge increased significantly from an average score of 45.3 (pre-test) to 84 (post-test), with an increase of 87%. In addition, the installation of K3 signs is carried out to strengthen the safety infrastructure of tourist areas. The integration of the K3 Digital Pocketbook not only increases the capacity of beach managers and village staff, but also encourages the transformation of tourism managers into safety promoters. Thus, this activity contributes to the development of sustainable tourism that is oriented towards safety.

Abstract

Menarche is an important indicator of the female puberty process that signifies reproductive maturity. In recent decades, the age of menarche has decreased in various countries, including Indonesia. This phenomenon poses a risk of increasing the incidence of obesity, metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, and reproductive health issues.  This study aims to analyze non-genetic factors as predictors of early menarche among elementary school girls in Parepare City. The study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 162 female students selected using multistage random sampling. Data were collected via a structured questionnaire and analyzed using logistic regression. Proportion early menarche among female students in Parepare (16.67%) (95%CI=10,86-22,46). The factors influencing the occurrence of early menarche among adolescent girls in Pare-Pare City are physical inactivity (OR = 3.101; 95% CI 1.131–8.504) and high parental income (>Rp 5,000,000) were independent risk factors for early menarche, (OR = 4.258; 95% CI 1.084–16.576), whereas a thin nutritional status acted as a protective factor (OR = 0.260; 95% CI 0.084–0.799). Programs promoting physical activity and nutrition education among elementary school children are needed to prevent early menarche.
