Abstract

The incidence of work accidents in agricultural areas is quite a lot such as pesticide exposure incidents, exposure to sharp agricultural machinery or equipment, animals and plants that can injure, and positions that are not ergonomic so that it requires immediate handling. This study aims to analyze farmers' knowledge about handling and preventing emergencies in agricultural areas. This study uses the literature review method using 3 databases, namely Google Scholar, Science Direct and PubMed by considering the publication time span for the last five years, from 2020 to 2024.  We used 10 studies that met the inclusion criteria in the review. It was found that some farmers have knowledge about the attitude and ability to handle emergencies. Some farmers have good knowledge, but their attitudes and knowledge related to handling emergencies are still quite low. Low knowledge and attitude towards handling emergencies can lead to undesirable outcomes such as death or long-lasting physical disability. Farmers' knowledge is also important to reduce the risk of work accidents in agricultural areas. Factors that cause a lack of knowledge and attitudes related to handling emergencies are the lack of awareness of farmers and the attitude of farmers who are too indifferent to work accidents, as well as the lack of education and training related to handling or first aid related to work accidents. For this reason, support from the government and health workers is needed to provide education and training to improve farmers' knowledge.

Abstract

Hebephrenic schizophrenia presents with symptoms such as disorganized thinking, emotional disturbances, and behavioral issues that often lead to social isolation. Clients experiencing social isolation demonstrate impaired interpersonal relationships and a tendency to withdraw from social settings. Acquaintance therapy is a psychiatric nursing intervention conducted gradually to enhance the client's social interaction capabilities. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of acquaintance therapy in improving interaction skills in a client with social isolation at Garuda Ward, Radjiman Wediodiningrat Hospital, Lawang, Malang. Using a case study design, this research involved a 30-year-old male client diagnosed with hebephrenic schizophrenia and social isolation. The intervention was conducted over six consecutive days, lasting 15 to 30 minutes each. Data collection included observation, interviews, and nursing documentation. The study revealed a significant improvement in the client interaction skills after the intervention, with symptoms of social isolation reducing from 13 to 2. The client could introduce himself, converse with others, and participate in group activities. These findings indicate that acquaintance therapy is effective in enhancing social interaction in clients with social isolation and can be considered a recommended non-pharmacological approach in psychiatric nursing practice.

Abstract

Pesticide exposure among farmers poses significant health risks globally; however, comprehensive recent evidence on the role of nursing in mitigating these hazards remains underexplored. This systematic review aims to synthesize empirical findings from 2024 to 2025 on the health impacts of pesticide exposure in farming populations and discusses implications for agronursing practice. Following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a systematic search was conducted across Scopus, PubMed, and ProQuest using the keywords "pesticide," "farmer," and "nursing." From an initial pool of 2,757 records, 10 original research articles published between 2024 and 2025 met the inclusion criteria: full-text, English-language, open-access, peer-reviewed research articles with ethical clearance, an active DOI, and no study design restrictions beyond excluding non-original works. The 10 included studies were conducted in Thailand, Spain, Greece, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Türkiye, and India. These studies revealed consistent associations between pesticide exposure and adverse health outcomes, including sleep disorders, depression, suicide attempts, oxidative stress, DNA damage, elevated inflammatory markers, and increased stroke risk biomarkers. Behavioral assessments indicated widespread deficiencies in safe pesticide handling and low risk perception. Importantly, nurse-led interventions demonstrated effectiveness in improving occupational health service delivery and farmer knowledge. Pesticide exposure continues to pose a risk to farmers' health across diverse global settings. Agronursing emerges as a vital interdisciplinary approach to address this challenge through education, early detection, advocacy, and community-based prevention. Integrating agronursing competencies into primary healthcare and nursing curricula is crucial for protecting agricultural workers and promoting sustainable rural health.
