Abstract

Over 200 countries have experienced a further increase in COVID-19 cases and this has been considered to be influenced by climatic conditions. The most vulnerable countries to this increase are those with low vaccination rates. This study aims to determine the influence of climate on COVID-19 cases in Indonesia. Furthermore, an ecological study design based on time conducted in Jakarta was used to obtain secondary data from March to September 2020. These data include maximum, minimum and average temperature, humidity, precipitation, maximum, and average wind speed, and solar radiation. The multiple linear regression test results showed that high humidity significantly affects the decrease in COVID-19 cases and 66.5% of the variations can be explained by this factor. For every 1% increase in humidity, there will be a decrease of 4 cases per week. However, the high humidity environment was reported to have the ability to suppress cases since transmission is still possible. Therefore, SARS-CoV-2 can still survive in humid conditions but in a relatively short time. Kata Kunci: Climate, COVID-19, epicenter, humidity.

Abstract

Industrial activities around the Lubuk Begalung rubber factory in Padang City pose risks to air quality, raising community concerns about health and comfort. This study aimed to evaluate air quality and analyze local perceptions of pollution caused by factory operations. A quantitative survey with purposive sampling was conducted among 75 residents living within a 2 km radius of the factory for at least two years. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed descriptively using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Relationships between perceived air quality and pollution impacts were examined using Spearman or Pearson correlation. Findings revealed that 60% of respondents frequently detected strong odors during production hours, while 55% reported mild respiratory problems, including coughing and throat irritation. Statistical analysis indicated a significant correlation between odor intensity and health complaints (rs = 0.62; p < 0.01). In addition, 70% of respondents felt a decline in environmental comfort, which was also significantly related to health complaints (rs = 0.58; p < 0.01). These results confirm that factory emissions negatively affect both physical and psychological well-being of nearby residents. The study emphasizes the need for stricter emission monitoring, adoption of environmentally friendly technologies, and stronger community involvement in environmental surveillance. Collaboration among industry, government, and local communities is essential to maintain air quality and minimize long-term health impacts.

Abstract

Fine particulate matter (PM₂.₅) air pollution has long been identified as a crucial contributor to cardiovascular diseases in big cities with high air emissions like Jakarta. Long-term exposure to PM₂.₅ can trigger systemic inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and accelerated atherosclerosis, thereby potentially increasing the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). This research aims to identify the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) from long-term exposure to PM₂.₅ among those aged 40–60 years and verify the hypothesis that higher concentrations of PM₂.₅ are related to higher incidences of MACE and values of CVD biomarkers. This longitudinal study involved 2,000 respondents aged 40–60 with more than three years of residence in Jakarta, selected via multistage sampling. PM₂.₅ exposure was estimated annually according to residence location. Analysis used Cox proportional hazards models to assess MACE risk and linear mixed-effects models for biomarker changes. Results showed exposure variation between tertiles (12–42 µg/m³) with a strong dose–response pattern; the highest exposure group had four times higher incidence of MACE than the lowest tertile. Exposure was also linked to increased blood pressure, LDL, hs-CRP, HbA1c, and accelerated CIMT thickening. These findings have significant implications for air quality management policies to minimize cardiovascular risk in sensitive age groups. Overall, this study highlights the urgent need to reduce PM₂.₅ concentrations as a preventive measure against CVD in densely populated metropolitan areas.

Abstract

ABSTRAKLatar Belakang: Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) merupakan suatu gejala yang disebabkan atau diperparah oleh pekerjaan, lingkungan kerja dan performansi kerja sehingga menimbulkan gangguan musculoskeletal. Aktivitas kerja bagian pemanenan kelapa sawit yang dilakukan secara manual berisiko untuk menyebabkan Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSDs). Tujuan: untuk menganalisis risiko Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSDs) serta keluhan Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) pada pekerja bagian pemanenan kelapa sawit PT. X Kabupaten Banyuasin Sumatera Selatan. Metode: Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan menggunakan pendekatan desain cross sectional. Alat ukur yang digunakan pada penelitian ini berupa lembar kerja REBA, WAC 296-62-051 Ergonomics, dan Nordic Body Map. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 84 pemanen kelapa sawit PT. X Kabupaten Banyuasin Sumatera Selatan yang dipilih secara simple random sampling. Hasil: Hasil analisis menunjukan bahwa pekerja yang mengalami keluhan Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) sebanyak 66 orang (78,6%). Faktor risiko yang berpengaruh terhadap keluhan Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) adalah skor REBA (risiko Musculoskeletal Disorder)  p-value 0,020 (OR 24,325; 95% CI 1,636-361,731) dan kebiasaan olahraga p-value 0,000 (OR 0,005; 95% CI 0,000-0,067). Bagian tubuh yang berisiko dengan bagian tubuh yang mengalami keluhan berkesesuaian sebesar 78,6% sehingga dikategorikan sebagai Work-related. Saran: Diharapkan manajemen perusahaan mengaplikasikan program yang mengurangi risiko ergonomi dan dilakukan kegiatan olahraga seperti angkat barbel untuk melenturkan otot bahu. Kata Kunci: Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs), Skor REBA, Pemanen Kelapa Sawit.
