Abstract

Concrete technology has significantly advanced and remains an interesting research topic. The demand for cement usage rises significantly due to concrete usage in various sectors. Cement production leads to air pollution issues and causes a greenhouse effect, even in the modern filtration era. Fly ash is an industrial waste that has been identified as a viable substitute for cement due to its pozzolanic properties. Silica Sand is sandblasting waste, where added value is needed. This study investigates the effectiveness of fly ash substitution in the cement portion of cementitious composite materials as an effort to minimize cement usage. Using sandblasting waste is an effort to implement 3R activity (reduce, reuse, recycle) for maritime waste. Compressive and tensile tests were evaluated in the variation of fly ash substitution for cementitious composite reinforced by coco fiber and wiremesh model. The results show that a 40% fly ash substitution gives the highest compressive strength of 32.98 MPa and the tensile strength of 5.90 N/mm². The best model composition provides the increments of compressive and tensile strength compared to the control specimen at 43.60% and 12.60%, respectively. ANOVA tests confirmed the significance of the enhancing effect as the presence of fly ash, both for compressive and tensile strength. Additionally, static analysis simulations using Fusion360 software were performed and indicated that the cementitious composite lawn table prototype’s design is safe and has good formability, as a safety factor performed 2.26, exceeding the required value of 2.00. This result explicates that fly ash and waste materials can be effectively used in cementitious composites for practical applications.

Abstract

Abstract: Introducing the maritime world to early childhood is an approach to developing awareness and knowledge of the role of the sea as a natural resource in Indonesia. This can be accomplished, for instance, by introducing different types of ships and using coloring pages and images as an engaging way to learn. The activity was carried out in one of the day care located in Surabaya, with the par-ticipation of young children between the ages of 1 to 3 years old. The method applied in this community service activity is an educational method using a participatory approach. The activity was carried out in a number of phases, including preliminary observation and partner coordination, the creation of educational materials in the form of illustrations of various ship types, brief explanation of ship introduction, and ship coloring activities. Based on the activities that have been done, the children gave a positive response to learning and coloring activities. Using pictures and hands-on activities, the children tend to remember the shape and name of the ship that has been explained previously more easily. Coloring activities encourage fine-motor skills development and children's creativity. Keywords: coloring; early childhood; maritime; ship Abstrak: Pengenalan dunia maritim pada anak usia dini penting untuk menumbuhkan pengetahuan tentang peran laut sebagai sumber daya alam di Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract

The outer shell of an ISO tank plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of its contents by withstanding temperature fluctuations, pressure, and radiation. Research on the fabrication of liquefied natural gas (LNG) tank outer shells therefore provides both scientific and practical value, particularly in ensuring mechanical reliability and structural performance. This study investigates the welding of American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) A36 steel plates using shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and evaluates the effect of welding parameters on mechanical and microstructural properties. Four specimens were prepared by varying welding current at 70 and 80 A on plate thicknesses of 4 and 12 mm. The results indicate that both current and thickness significantly influence the weld zone microstructure, with transformations from ferrite–pearlite in the base metal to widmanstätten and acicular ferrite in the weld metal. In terms of mechanical performance, the highest hardness value of 198.387 HVN was recorded in the 4 mm specimen welded at 70 A, demonstrating the strong dependence of hardness on combined current and thickness conditions. These findings contribute to optimizing welding parameters for the safe and reliable application of LNG tank outer shells.
