Abstract

304 stainless steel is commonly used in industry due to the advantages of great conductivity, while SS 400 carbon steel is largely used in the various engineering field on purpose of industrial and fabrication. One of examples is penstock application in Tegal, Central Java, has been using more than one kind of dissimilar steel, SUS 304 and SS 400, and the various of welding position (1G, 2G, and 3G). Penstock was flowed water from the river for irrigation and raw water so that could be affected to decrease of the thickness of materials. This research was conducted on the dissimilar welding of SUS 304 and SS 400 by SMAW with the welding process of (1G), (2G), and (3). After the welding process, visual examination, hardness test, and microstructure were conducted to examine the quality of welded and hardness of the root and surface of weld. The visual test was shown that no defect, the highest of hardness was at the weld metal with 3G of welding position at 207.17 HVN (specimen 2B) while the lowest of hardness was 195.13 HVN with 2G position (specimen 2A). The microstructure of weld metal was austenite of white and delta-ferrite of black, delta-ferrite was vermicular.

Abstract

The Overlay welding process is a coating technique that is carried out using the welding process. In this study, a coating was conducted on carbon SA 516 gr. 70 with stainless steel electrodes. Welding was carried out with the GTAW and SMAW processes. The electrode used in the first coating for GTAW was ER309L while for SMAW was E309L. The next coating used in the GTAW electrode was ER316L and the SMAW electrode was E316L. In both welding processes, testing was carried out on mechanical properties and corrosion rates. Testing was carried out to determine mechanical properties, namely bending testing. This was done based on ASME IX. Bending test results in both processes are declared accepted because there are no defects. In testing the corrosion rate using the three-electrode cell method based on the ASTM G102 Overlay welding process with GTAW has a slower corrosion rate of 0.00890 MMPY compared to the overlay welding process with SMAW.

Abstract

Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) in train interior components must have good fire resistance properties. Therefore, it is necessary to add a flame retardant compound to the GFRP material. In this study, Alumina Trihydrate (ATH) and Melamine Cyanurate (MCA) were mixed into a vinyl ester resin. The method of making GFRP refractory specimens uses the hand lay-up method. GFRP is mixed and tested for fire resistance standard ORE B 106.2. The results obtained after the addition of 25% ATH, a mixture of 25% ATH with 5% MCA, 10% MCA with 25% ATH, and 15% MCA with 25% ATH, 25% ATH in the outer layer, and a mixture of 5% MCA with 25% ATH in the outer layer of the resin weight is able to increase fire resistance. Optimum GFRP fire resistance at the addition of 25% ATH to the weight of the resin in the outer layer. The result of the burned area is 84.84 cm² with a fire extinguishing time of 0.33 seconds after the fire source leaves the specimen. The results show that the mixture of ATH and MCA has a synergistic effect on fire resistance properties, so it becomes a recommendation for interior sidewall panels and ceiling panels on trains according to the ORE B 106.2 standard

Abstract

Abstract

Siwalan fruit waste is waste from the Siwalan fruit that has entered senescence and is no longer suitable for consumption. One of the problems with this waste is that only some people process it to make valuable goods. Siwalan waste includes agricultural waste that will cause global warming if not processed. Global warming can cause an increase in temperature. Siwalan fruit waste can be used to make crafts in the form of plant pots, which benefit the plant soil. Plant pot crafts were made in stages by local community PKK women, from assembling the pot frame to finishing. The implementation of this community service used an outreach and training scheme. Then, after the community has received socialization and training, a post-test is given to see the understanding gained. The local community felt the benefits obtained after receiving outreach and training regarding the importance of processing agricultural waste.
