Abstract

Background: Pain is a major clinical issue in both acute and chronic patients, affecting quality of life and causing psychological distress. Pharmacological therapy, particularly opioids, remains widely used but has limitations in the form of side effects and the risk of dependence. This has spurred the development of nonpharmacological interventions, one of which is Benson’s Relaxation Technique (BRT), which triggers a relaxation response and has the potential to reduce pain perception. Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of BRT in reducing pain intensity across various clinical populations. Method: A literature search was conducted using three databases—PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science—for articles published between 2015 and 2025. Included studies comprised randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental designs assessing the effectiveness of BRT. Risk of bias was analyzed using the Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal tools. Results: Of the 705 articles identified, nine studies met the inclusion criteria, involving a total of 644 participants from India and Iran. Most studies demonstrated a significant reduction in pain intensity following BRT intervention, either as a standalone treatment or in combination with other therapies such as aromatherapy and psychoeducational interventions. Implementation protocols varied between 10–40 minutes per session with a frequency of 1–3 times per day, yet the results remained consistent. A risk of bias assessment indicated acceptable methodological quality. Conclusion: BRT has been proven to be an effective, safe, adaptable, and easy-to-practice complementary method for reducing pain. With its flexible and non-invasive nature, this technique has the potential to reduce reliance on pharmacological therapies. Large-scale, cross-cultural clinical trials are needed to confirm its long-term effectiveness.   Keywords: Benson's Relaxation Technique; Non-Pharmacological Therapy; Pain Intensity; Relaxation.

Abstract

Nursing care documentation plays a crucial role in nursing practice as it serves as legal evidence, a means of communication between healthcare professionals, and an indicator of service quality. However, nurses' compliance with documentation often faces various obstacles. Supervision by nursing managers is seen as an important strategy to ensure documentation implementation complies with applicable standards. This study aims to analyze the relationship between supervision and nursing care documentation at RSI NU Demak. The study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. A sample of 83 inpatient nurses was selected through proportional random sampling from a population of 107 nurses. The research instruments were a supervision questionnaire (17 items) and nursing documentation (20 items) whose validity and reliability have been tested. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of p<0.05. The results showed that the majority of respondents were aged <30 years (53%), were female (89.2%), had a Diploma 3 Nursing degree (51.8%), and had worked for <9 years (53%). Good supervision was found in 60.2% of respondents, while good documentation was found in 59.0%. The Chi-Square test results yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05) with a correlation coefficient of r=0.981, indicating a very strong relationship between supervision and nursing documentation. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between supervision and nursing care documentation, where the better the supervision provided, the higher the quality of the documentation produced. The results of this study reinforce the importance of the managerial role in improving the quality of nursing services, especially in terms of care documentation. Effective supervision not only functions as a control tool but also becomes a means of developing and strengthening nurses' competencies in meeting nursing practice standards. With structured and continuous supervision, nurses tend to be more disciplined, accurate, and consistent in documenting every nursing intervention they perform.

Abstract

Effective interprofessional collaboration is increasingly recognized as a key determinant of patient safety, continuity of care, and healthcare worker satisfaction. Within this context, patient care managers and integrated progress notes documentation may function as important mechanisms for coordinating care across disciplines and supporting interprofessional job satisfaction. However, empirical evidence synthesizing the relationship between care coordination roles, shared documentation practices, and job satisfaction remains limited. This systematic mixed studies review aimed to synthesize evidence on the relationship between patient care managers, integrated progress notes documentation, and interprofessional job satisfaction across healthcare settings. A systematic mixed studies review was conducted using a convergent integrated approach. Studies were identified from major databases and screened according to predefined inclusion criteria focused on care coordination roles, integrated progress notes, and interprofessional job satisfaction. The final synthesis included six studies spanning primary care, acute care, geriatric practice, home healthcare, and interprofessional collaboration platforms. The review found that interprofessional job satisfaction was shaped by four interrelated domains: organisational context, digital documentation design, role clarity, and adaptation over time. Integrated progress notes and collaborative documentation systems facilitated communication, reduced duplication, and improved workflow efficiency when aligned with team needs and organisational support. Conversely, role ambiguity, hierarchical relationships, fragmented systems, and resistance to change weakened collaboration and reduced professional satisfaction. Across the included studies, patient care managers emerged as important coordinators who can strengthen shared documentation, promote team cohesion, and support person-centred care. These findings suggest that sustainable improvements require role clarity, shared accountability, interoperable documentation tools, and interprofessional training to strengthen teamwork and workforce well-being.
