Abstract

Basic education in the modern era faces a dual challenge of improving learning quality while strengthening character education from an early age. In this context, school leadership plays a crucial role in shaping policy direction, learning climate, and value internalization. However, leadership practices in many primary schools remain largely administrative and have not systematically integrated moral and spiritual dimensions. This study aims to conceptually examine the role of transformational–spiritual leadership in managing basic education to support the development of excellent and character-based schools. This study employed a qualitative approach using library research. Data were collected through a critical review and synthesis of relevant literature on transformational leadership, spiritual leadership, educational management, and character education. Data were analyzed using content analysis and thematic analysis to identify key patterns and conceptual relationships. The findings indicate that transformational leadership enriched with spiritual values contributes significantly to creating a school climate conducive to meaningful learning and character development in primary education. Such leadership strengthens role modeling, value-based vision, and teachers’ roles as key agents of character education. In addition, value-based educational human resource management functions as an operational mechanism that translates leadership vision into daily instructional practices. A consistent and value-oriented school culture also mediates and sustains the impact of leadership on students’ character formation. These findings highlight transformational–spiritual leadership as an essential foundation for balancing academic quality and character development in basic education.

Abstract

Kesenjangan pendidikan masih menjadi tantangan serius di berbagai wilayah, terutama pada masyarakat yang kurang terjangkau oleh layanan pendidikan formal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peran pendidikan berbasis masyarakat sebagai alternatif strategis dalam mengatasi kesenjangan tersebut. Metode yang digunakan adalah kajian teoritis dengan menelaah berbagai literatur, jurnal ilmiah, dan dokumen kebijakan yang relevan. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa pendidikan berbasis masyarakat memiliki potensi besar dalam memperluas akses dan pemerataan pendidikan, terutama bagi kelompok marjinal. Pendekatan ini bersifat partisipatif, kontekstual, dan fleksibel, sehingga mampu menyesuaikan dengan kebutuhan serta karakteristik lokal. Selain itu, keterlibatan aktif masyarakat dalam proses perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi pendidikan turut memperkuat rasa kepemilikan dan keberlanjutan program. Kajian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pendidikan berbasis masyarakat tidak hanya mampu menjadi pelengkap sistem pendidikan formal, tetapi juga sebagai motor penggerak perubahan sosial yang inklusif. Untuk itu, diperlukan dukungan dari berbagai pihak, termasuk pemerintah, lembaga swadaya masyarakat, dan tokoh lokal, agar pendekatan ini dapat diimplementasikan secara optimal dan berkelanjutan dalam rangka mengurangi kesenjangan pendidikan di masyarakat.

Abstract

The Islamic Religious Education curriculum is still not fully successful in forming students who have strong faith and devotion to Allah Ta'ala. The shortcomings in the position of the Islamic Religious Education curriculum in forming a complete Islamic personality in students are a factor that is noticed, whether realized or not. The Kuttab Imam Al Ghazali Sukabumi has a mission to restore the glory of science by implementing the faith and Qur'an curriculum. This study aims to describe how the faith and Qur'an curriculum at Kuttab Imam Al Ghazali Sukabumi is implemented to form faith characters. In this research, a qualitative case study method was used. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model. From the results of the study, it was found that the curriculum used in Kuttab Imam Al Ghazali Sukabumi is the Qur'anic curriculum and the faith curriculum, which is also known as the first-century hijri curriculum or the prophet curriculum. In general, this curriculum emphasizes the concept and stages of faith before Qur'an and adab before knowledge, with Qur'an, sunnah. No significant obstacles were found in the implementation of this curriculum, in fact it can be said that the obstacles were very minimal.
