Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that is still often found in Indonesia, including in Kudu Village, Baki Subdistrict, Sukoharjo District. One of the causes is the low knowledge of mothers regarding nutritional needs and stimulation of child growth and development. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge of mothers of toddlers about balanced nutrition and child development through health counseling and demonstration of making Supplementary Feeding (PMT). The activity used a one group pre-test post-test design and involved 17 mothers of toddlers. The intervention was conducted through counseling and demonstrative practice of making PMT. Evaluation was conducted using a toddler nutrition knowledge questionnaire and PMT processing. Results showed significant improvements in nutrition knowledge scores (from 76.96 to 88.24; p=0.001) and PMT processing knowledge (from 74.02 to 87.26; p=0.000). It can be concluded that this educational approach is effective in improving mothers' knowledge and has the potential to support stunting prevention efforts at the community level. To maintain the sustainability of the program, it is recommended that this activity be part of the routine agenda of the Posyandu.

Abstract

Stunting remains a significant problem in Indonesia, with 148.1 million children under five affected globally in 2022. Stunting hinders both physical and cognitive development, with primary contributing factors including inadequate nutrition and caregiving practices. This community service activity aimed to increase fathers’ knowledge about caregiving through a door-to-door approach in Desa Makamhaji. The activity was conducted on December 12 and 16, 2024, following three main stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The results showed an increase in fathers’ knowledge scores from 71.88 to 93.75. Fathers’ involvement, such as playing with their children, was shown to strengthen emotional bonding and help detect early signs of stunting. This educational program effectively raised fathers’ awareness of their important role, particularly in ensuring proper nutrition, maintaining environmental hygiene, and providing psychosocial stimulation. Similar interventions are recommended to continue addressing knowledge gaps in community-based stunting prevention.

Abstract

Maternal mortality remains a significant public health problem, particularly in urban areas, where various risk factors can increase the likelihood of pregnancy complications. This study aimed to analyze the distribution of pregnant women’s health risks by region in Surakarta City. A quantitative descriptive design was employed using total sampling of secondary data from the Satukan Solo website for the period January 2023 to May 2024, covering 15,687 pregnant women across five sub-districts. The analysis consisted of three stages: calculating the proportion of pregnant women at risk, identifying dominant risk factors, and comparing the distribution of risk factors among sub-districts. The results showed that the proportion of pregnant women at risk was very high across all sub-districts, ranging from 96.19% to 99.22%. The most dominant risk factors were fetal weight at risk, comorbidities, and anemia, while maternal height <140 cm, maternal age <20 years, and number of pregnancies <3 times had the lowest proportions. The distribution of risk factors varied between sub-districts. Banjarsari had comorbidities as its dominant risk factor, whereas the other four sub-districts were dominated by fetal weight at risk. These findings highlight the importance of region-based interventions and community empowerment through antenatal care education to improve early detection and reduce pregnancy complications. Targeted interventions may strengthen the utilization of maternal health services and support more effective maternal health program planning.
