Abstract

Increased numbers of job-hopping in Indonesia might result in negative costs for organizations. Earlier research in turnover intention tends to emphasize organizational commitment yet it neglects the importance of perceived fairness in allocating results and perceived support from organizations. The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of distributive justice and perceived organizational support to turnover intention in a company within the poultry industry. This study implements quantitative method by administering surveys to 142 fulltime employees. Partial Least Square was utilized to test the research model. Results of this study demonstrated that perceived organizational support is the most significant factor for turnover intention and distributive justice has higher influence on perceived organizational support compared with turnover intention. These findings contribute to the development of employers and managers’ initiatives to promote support and distributive fairness toward their employees.

Abstract

Employee performance and its antecedents have always been exciting research topics as employee performance impacts organizational success. Concerning this, leaders are considered to have a significant role in influencing employee performance. Despite being extensively discussed in the literature, little research has investigated ethical leadership as a construct. This research examines the impacts of ethical leadership, organizational citizenship behavior, and intrinsic motivation on performance. The novelty of this research is that it uses two mediating variables that have never been used to examine the association between ethical leadership and performance. A quantitative method was used, and data was collected using a survey. Results indicated that ethical leadership affected organizational citizenship behavior and intrinsic motivation but did not affect employee performance. Ethical leadership influences employee performance if mediated by organizational citizenship behavior. These results may provide new insights for scholars and leaders. Theoretically, this study is one of a few attempts to understand the link between ethical leadership and performance, especially in Eastern culture. Our study suggests leaders should demonstrate ethical leadership to promote OCB and employee motivation.

Abstract

Becoming a successful entrepreneur requires passion. Although there has been much research on passion, little has explored the role of passion in work-life enrichment and, in particular, its impact on entrepreneurial life and job satisfaction. This study aimed to examine the influence of harmonious passion on job satisfaction and life satisfaction through work-life enrichment among entrepreneurs. The research method used in this study is quantitative. The total number of respondents was 310 entrepreneurs. The sampling technique used was a purposive sampling technique with data collection methods in the form of a questionnaire. The results of the study show that harmonious passion has a direct effect on job satisfaction with work-life enrichment. However, harmonious passion has no direct impact on life satisfaction. Indirectly, harmonious passion influences job satisfaction and life satisfaction through work-life enrichment. This research adds to the existing body of knowledge by demonstrating that entrepreneurs’ work-life enrichment can mediate the relationships between harmonious passion and work and life satisfactions. Moreover, it also addresses a notable gap in entrepreneurial passion research, particularly in non-Western, emerging contexts, and represents the inaugural investigation of this subject matter in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study employs a quantitative method using a survey approach. The research sample consists of 203 respondents from various private banks in Java. Data analysis is conducted using Partial Least Squares. The findings indicate that transformational leadership affects affective commitment, with transformational leadership influencing job autonomy and affective commitment through psychological well-being, both directly and as a mediating variable. Conversely, job autonomy does not directly affect affective commitment or act as a mediator. Theoretically, the results of this study underscore the importance of psychological well-being in shaping employee attachment in private banks. The practical implications of this research for organizations, particularly in the banking sector, highlight the significance of adopting transformational leadership styles that focus not only on providing job autonomy but also on fostering the psychological well-being of employees.

Abstract

Background – The mental well-being of employees is crucial for both the individuals and the organizations they belong to. Employees who enjoy mental prosperity are often more productive, underscoring the importance of fostering a supportive work environment. Aim – This study investigates the impact of workplace spirituality on the mental well-being of employees in Java, examining the roles of happiness at work and mindfulness as intermediary factors. Design/ methodology/ approach – Employing a quantitative approach, this research engaged 352 respondents from various organizations across Java. Data collected were analyzed using SmartPLS 4.0 software, focusing on the relationships between workplace spirituality, happiness at work, mindfulness, and employee mental well-being. Findings – The study reveals that workplace spirituality significantly contributes to both happiness at work and mindfulness. Moreover, it directly influences employee mental well-being. However, while mindfulness serves as an effective mediator in this relationship, happiness at work does not significantly mediate the impact of workplace spirituality on mental well-being. This suggests that the pathway through which workplace spirituality affects employee mental well-being is primarily through mindfulness. Conclusion – Workplace spirituality emerges as a positive force, enhancing employee happiness and mindfulness, which in turn, contributes to better mental well-being. The study underscores the importance of mindfulness as a mediating factor, highlighting its role in leveraging spiritual values in the workplace to support employee mental health. Research Implication – The findings suggest that organizations should consider integrating mindfulness training and spiritual values into their employee development programs. Such initiatives can help mitigate stress, anxiety, and work-related pressures, fostering a healthier and more supportive work environment conducive to employee growth. Limitations – While this study identified happiness at work and mindfulness as potential mediators, the former did not significantly mediate the relationship between workplace spirituality and mental well-being. Future research might explore alternative mediating variables to fully understand the dynamics at play.
