Abstract

The dichotomy between school education and out-of-school education remains a fundamental issue in the Indonesian education system. School education is often perceived as the primary and most legitimate educational pathway, while out-of-school education is positioned merely as a complementary alternative. This dichotomous perspective has implications for policy inequality, public perception, and recognition of learning outcomes. This study aims to analyze the nature of the dichotomy between school and out-of-school education, examine its historical and sociological roots, and identify integrative solutions within the national education system. This study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method. The findings indicate that the educational dichotomy is a socio-historical construction influenced by colonial legacy, educational policy orientation, and societal perceptions of formal credentials. Therefore, an integrative approach emphasizing lifelong learning, cross-sector collaboration, and recognition of non-formal and informal learning is essential.

Abstract

Islamic education is confronted with major challenges due to the rapid development of digital technology, social change, and increasingly complex global dynamics. This article aims to examine the concept of future Islamic education by emphasizing the reconstruction of Islamic values and learning innovations that are relevant to contemporary demands. This study employs a qualitative approach using a library research method, drawing on primary and secondary sources that discuss the philosophy of Islamic education, educational challenges in the digital era, and models for the development of Islamic education. The findings indicate that future Islamic education must be built upon a strong philosophical and normative foundation derived from the Qur’an and Hadith, while remaining adaptive to technological advancements. The integration of the values of tawhid, adab, and akhlaq with digital-based learning innovations is key to shaping insan kamil who are faithful, knowledgeable, and globally competitive. Islamic Religious Education (PAI) holds a strategic position in Indonesia's national education system, particularly in shaping the character, morals, and spirituality of students. However, the implementation of PAI education in Indonesia still faces various complex challenges, ranging from curriculum aspects, teacher competency, learning methodology, to the challenges of globalization and religious moderation. This article aims to comprehensively examine issues in PAI education in Indonesia using a literature review approach from scientific journals and academic books. The method used is a literature review of journal articles and primary reference books relevant to Islamic education. The results of the study indicate that the main problems in PAI education lie in the curriculum that is not fully contextual, learning methods that are still conventional, limited competency of PAI teachers, and the weak integration of religious moderation values and digital literacy. This article is expected to serve as an academic reference for the development of PAI education policies and practices that are more relevant to the needs of the times.

Abstract

Globalization has brought significant changes to various aspects of human life, including education. Islamic education, which is oriented toward the development of character, spirituality, and intellectual capacity, faces numerous challenges in the era of globalization, such as the influence of foreign cultures, rapid digital transformation, and the demands of 21st-century competencies. This study aims to examine the challenges, problems, and impacts of globalization on Islamic education, as well as to formulate relevant modernization strategies. This research employs a library research method by analyzing books and recent scholarly articles. The findings indicate that Islamic education encounters both internal and external challenges, including weak curriculum integration, limited teacher competence, and a crisis of moral values and identity among students. Nevertheless, globalization also provides opportunities for innovation in learning and the enhancement of educational quality through the effective use of technology and human resource development. Therefore, Islamic education must be adaptive and innovative while consistently maintaining Islamic values in order to produce Muslim generations who are faithful, morally upright, knowledgeable, and capable of contributing positively to the global society.
