Abstract

There are many traditions in Islamic societies or groups that originate from the existence of the Quran in their midst. As recently, various traditions of reading the text of the Koran have become widespread, both carried out communally and individually. Normally reading the Quran can be done at any time, but a tradition has emerged so that the Quran or parts of it can only be read at certain times. This phenomenon also applies to the Al-Fattah Kartasura Islamic Boarding School which has a tradition of reading the wirid fafahamna or Al-Anbiya' verse 79 after Isha' prayer communally by the students. This then led the author to trace the genealogy of this tradition and explore how the students received it. This research is qualitative research with a field research approach to this traditional phenomenon. The data source for this research was obtained from information from several elements of Islamic boarding schools, namely caregivers, administrators and students. The data collection techniques use interviews, observation and documentation. Meanwhile, checking the validity of the data uses the data triangulation method with techniques and sources with research methods applying descriptive-analytical methods. The results of this research are, Genealogically, this remembrance was obtained by the caretaker from Fathurrahman who came from Kyai Idris Kacangan Boyolali, His tradition has spawned several receptions from students, namely forming personality, bringing peace of mind, making all matters easier, and making learning easier.

Abstract

This article deals with the tradition of Laylat al-Qadr occurring in al-Hayah at-Tayyibah ma‘a al-Qur’an by Shaykh ‘Ala Muhammad Mustafa Na‘imah, the Quranic commentary that reconstructs the meaning of this special day historically as an institutionalized (classical, and later modern) human-existential, compulsory for any significance to emerge for what befell a contextually-defined Muslim-Universe. Laylat al-Qadr has been classically understood as the night during one of the last ten days of Ramadan that carries enormous spiritual merit and rewards greater than a thousand months. This interpretation has engendered a largely ritualistic and chronological understanding of the idea, while its existential and spiritual dimensions remain inadequately studied in contemporary Qur’anic studies. The objectives of this study are to explain the methodological construction of Na‘imah’s tafsir, examine the deconstruction process he conducts on the temporal paradigm of Laylat al-Qadr, and expose his tafsir interpretation into contemporary hermeneutics. MethodsThis is a qualitative library research. The primary data is taken from al-Hayah at-Tayyibah ma‘a al-Qur’an and the secondary sources include classical and modern tafsir works, credible journal articles, and studies on Qur’anic hermeneutics as well as Sufi exegesis. The methodology involves content analysis and comparative approaches to the data. The results show that Na‘imah re-forms Laylat al-Qadr as not just a temporal occasion, but also a spatial-experiential reality whose parameters determine less by time and space than the spiritual-fnality of an individual to receive divine light. His interpretation is grounded in a Sufi-hermeneutical framework integrating linguistic, intertextual, philosophical, and symbolic approaches. This study demonstrates an epistemological shift in contemporary tafsir from textual to contextual and existential paradigms, thereby contributing to the development of Qur’anic hermeneutics and contemporary Sufi exegesis

Abstract

Studies on the history of Qur'anic printing in Indonesia have largely focused on codicology, philology, and the standardization of the muṣḥaf, while the historical development of the Qur'anic printing industry at the regional level has received comparatively little scholarly attention. This article examines the historical development of Qur'anic printing in West Java from the pre-independence period to the Reformasi era, with particular attention to the transformation of religious authority, publishing industry, and state standardization. This research employs a qualitative method using a historical approach. Primary data consist of printed Qur’ans published by various publishers in West Java across different historical periods, while secondary data comprise scholarly literature, institutional documents, publishers’ catalogs, and archival materials related to Qur’anic publication and authentication. Data were collected through library research, direct observation of Qur'anic printed editions published in West Java across different historical periods, and documentary analysis. The findings were interpreted through the perspectives of social history and intellectual history. The study demonstrates that the development of Qur'anic printing in West Java evolved through four major typological phases: the initiation of local Qur'anic printing during the pre-independence period led by Maktabah al-Miṣriyyah of Abdullah bin Afif; the institutionalization of the publishing industry during the early post-independence era; the state-led standardization following the implementation of the Indonesian Standard Muṣḥaf during the New Order; and the diversification of the industry during the Reformasi period through product innovation and market segmentation. The study concludes that the history of Qur'anic printing in West Java reflects not only technological developments in Qur'anic reproduction but also broader social transformations and intellectual shifts in religious authority, publishing institutions, and state regulation. It further proposes a typology of Qur'anic printing development that contributes to the broader scholarship on the history of the Qur'anic book in Indonesia
