Abstract

Purpose: This research investigates how on-time delivery, tracking systems, and cargo insurance influence customer loyalty via customer satisfaction among logistics service users in Jakarta, Indonesia. Methodology: This research utilized a quantitative, cross-sectional approach with purposive sampling of 318 logistics customers in Jakarta (62% business and 38% individual consumers). Five constructs were measured using validated seven-point Likert scales and analyzed via SEM-PLS using SmartPLS with 5,000 bootstrap resampling. Results: On-time delivery significantly affected customer satisfaction (β = 0.326, p < 0.001) and loyalty (β = 0.386, p < 0.001). Tracking systems and cargo insurance also significantly influenced satisfaction (β = 0.285 and 0.249, p < 0.001) and loyalty (β = 0.205, p = 0.002; and β = 0.138, p = 0.009). Customer satisfaction significantly predicted loyalty (β = 0.460, p < 0.001). All mediation paths showed partial mediation (VAF = 28.0%–45.5%). The model explained 79.0% of the satisfaction and 77.4% of the loyalty variance. Conclusions: Customer satisfaction partially mediates the effect of logistics service attributes on loyalty. Building on previous studies, this study categorizes on-time delivery, tracking systems, and cargo insurance into three separate trust dimensions operational, informational, and financial that influence satisfaction and loyalty. Limitations: This study was limited to logistics customers in Jakarta, employed a cross-sectional design, and examined only three service attributes, excluding other potential determinants of loyalty. Contributions: This study enhances the literature on logistics service quality by introducing a three-dimensional trust framework, offering practical insights for providers in Jakarta.

Abstract

this paper investigates how human factor variables determine ship accident risk in Indonesian domestic shipping. Drawing on accident investigation reports and international literature, the study proposes and tests a structural model linking deck crew competence, supervisory quality, and work stress to perceived ship accident risk, with safety culture as an intervening variable and work stress and competence as moderators. National data from Indonesia’s National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) for 2020–2025 indicate that human error remains the dominant contributing factor in marine accidents, with high fatality rates despite the implementation of SOLAS, STCW, and the ISM Code. Relevant studies confirm that inadequate training, fatigue, miscommunication, and weak supervision are among the most critical contributors to marine casualties. A quantitative survey will be conducted among Indonesian seafarers working on domestic Roro ferries and passenger/ cargo vessels, focusing on major inter-island routes. The proposal model will be tested using Partial Least Square–Structure Equation Modelling (SEM) to assess direct, indirect, and moderating effects of competence and job stress on the relationship between safety culture and perceived accident risk. The expected contribution is twofold: theoretically, it integrates Human Factor Analysis and Classification System (HFACS) Maritime and safety culture perspectives into a comprehensive human factor risk perception framework tailored to an archipelagic developing country; practically, it provides evidence=based insights for regulators and shipping companies regarding priority interventions in crew training, work-rest scheduling, supervision, and safety culture development.

Abstract

Indonesia’s rapidly expanding digital economy has made online expedition services a crucial component of e-commerce last-mile delivery. However, the determinants of actual usage behavior, particularly the role of demographic factors, remain insufficiently explored. This study examines the direct effects of effort expectancy, social media influence, and digital facilitating conditions on use behavior, as well as the mediating role of age among Indonesian users of online expedition services. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 250 purposive respondents who had used major expedition platforms within the past six months and analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling. The results indicate that all three antecedents have significant positive effects on use behavior, with effort expectancy emerging as the strongest predictor. Age shows a significant direct effect and mediates the relationships between the three predictors and use behavior. The model explains 68% of the variance and demonstrates strong predictive relevance. These findings underscore the importance of usability, social influence, and digital support, while highlighting age as a key factor shaping adoption. Online expedition providers should therefore focus on user-friendly platforms, active social media strategies, and inclusive digital infrastructure to increase adoption across age groups.

Abstract

Previous studies in logistics and freight transportation have largely focused on service quality, customer satisfaction, or operational efficiency, but limited attention has been given to understanding how key service attributes influence customers’ behavioral intentions and final decisions in selecting freight forwarding services, particularly in the context of LCL shipping. This indicates a research gap in the existing literature on freight forwarding service selection. This study aims to develop a decision-making model for selecting freight forwarding services in Less-than-Container-Load (LCL) shipping by examining the influence of delivery time, price, and brand image on customers’ intention to use and decision to use freight forwarding services. A quantitative research approach was employed with data collected from 200 exporters and SMEs in Semarang, Surabaya, and Jakarta that utilize LCL shipping services. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results indicate that delivery time, price, and brand image have significant positive effects on both intention to use and decision to use freight forwarding services. Among the independent variables, brand image shows the strongest influence on intention to use, while delivery time has the strongest impact on decision to use. Furthermore, intention to use significantly mediates the relationships between delivery time, price, brand image, and the decision to use freight forwarding services. This study contributes to the logistics and supply chain management literature by providing an integrated decision-making model for freight forwarding service selection in LCL shipping and offering practical insights for logistics providers to improve service strategies that enhance customer intention and decision to use their services.

Abstract

Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelagic state, where sea transport is the backbone of passenger and cargo mobility, yet ship accidents remain frequent and often highly fatal. This paper proposes and tests a structural model linking four human-factor dimensions—crew competence, work stress, communication effectiveness, and supervision—to perceived ship accident risk in Indonesia, with safety culture as a mediating variable. A quantitative survey is conducted among 300 seafarers operating in three major maritime regions (Batam, Merak, and Bali), and data are analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) following recommended rules of thumb for sample size and model evaluation. The study aims to identify the most influential human-factor determinants of perceived accident risk and to provide evidence-based recommendations for strengthening maritime safety culture.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the impact of operational compliance and minimum service standards on passenger behavior in maritime transport. Specifically, it examines the novel moderating role of "Social Influencer Attacks" and Electronic Service Quality (E-Servqual) on the relationship between behavioral intention and actual usage behavior among Ro-Ro ferry passengers. Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed, utilizing a purposive sampling method of Ro-Ro ferry passengers at the Merak-Bakauheni crossing, Indonesia. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) via SmartPLS to assess the measurement and structural models. Findings: The findings confirm that crew compliance and minimum service standards significantly enhance passengers' behavioral intentions. Crucially, the study reveals a paradox: while intentions lead to behavior, Social Influencer Attacks significantly weaken this transition. Conversely, E-Servqual acts as a positive buffer, strengthening the intention-behavior link. Research limitations/implications: The empirical context is limited to the Indonesian archipelagic ferry crossing. Future studies should replicate this model across varied geographical and transportation modes. Practical implications: Maritime operators must develop proactive digital crisis management to counter negative influencer campaigns, whilst simultaneously investing in E-Servqual infrastructure to maintain passenger trust. Originality/value: This paper extends UTAUT2 and E-WOM theories by introducing "Social Influencer Attack" as a unique negative moderator, bridging the gap between maritime logistics management and digital sociology. Paper type: Research paper.
