Abstract

This study examines the theological discourse surrounding grace and the Torah, a subject that has generated considerable debate among contemporary Christian communities. A prevalent view asserts that the grace made available through the death of Jesus Christ renders the Torah obsolete, thereby releasing Christians from its observance. In contrast, another perspective upholds the continued relevance of the Torah, particularly the Ten Commandments, as a moral and spiritual foundation. This ongoing debate underscores the need for a more nuanced understanding of the relationship between grace and the Torah in the context of Christian life today. Accordingly, the objective of this research is to investigate the potential harmonisation between grace and the Torah within contemporary Christian practice. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, this study utilises a literature review method, drawing primarily on biblical texts and supplemented by relevant peer-reviewed scholarly sources. The findings suggest that grace and the Torah need not be viewed in opposition, but rather as complementary aspects of Christian ethics and spirituality. From both philosophical and moral perspectives, the study affirms that Christians—whether they emphasise divine grace or Torah observance—are equally called to embody a life of moral integrity and ethical responsibility.

Abstract

The phenomenon of destructive parenting by "toxic parents" creates a relational dynamic that frequently leads to deep-seated conflict, placing children in moral, psychological, and social dilemmas. This study aims to analyze Susan Forward’s "toxic parents" theory through a biblical lens to foster parenting transformation and relational healing between children and parents. This objective is pursued through a theological reflection on the Fifth Commandment. Employing a qualitative method based on literature study and a hermeneutical approach to the Decalogue, the research identifies three pivotal aspects for transforming toxic parenting patterns. Furthermore, the study outlines three primary strategies children can implement to restore parental relationships and break the cycle of intergenerational trauma. These findings offer a theological framework for pastoral counseling and family restoration in the face of dysfunctional parenting dynamics. Abstract

In today's modern world, characterised by advanced technology and rapid information flow, people are increasingly pressured to keep pace with these advancements. The modern world is also marked by a fast-paced lifestyle, high mental stress, and a tendency for people to work non-stop, leading to the neglect of rest practices. An overemphasis on productivity has led many individuals to lose balance between work and recovery, thereby impacting physical, mental, and spiritual health. In this context, the biblical teaching on the Sabbath offers a theologically relevant value worth reconsidering regarding rest. This study aims to explore the concept of the Sabbath in Genesis 2:2–3 as a theological foundation for holistic and impactful self-care practices. It employs a theological qualitative method with a narrative hermeneutical approach to the text of Genesis. It can be concluded that the Sabbath in the creation narrative (Genesis 2:2–3) contains a profound theological meaning as a divine rest that sanctifies time and life. From a spiritual theology perspective, the Sabbath opens space for self-care practices that are not only oriented toward physical restoration but also touch on the relational dimension of humanity with God. Furthermore, the practice of the Sabbath has transformative power in Christian spirituality, as it directs humans toward an awareness of the need for deep communion with the Creator.

Abstract

This research discusses Christian meditation as a solution for Gen Z's mental health and spirituality enhancement in the digital age. In Christian circles, meditation is often viewed negatively as it is thought to be associated with mystical practices or New Age groups. However, Christian meditation, which has its roots in Jewish tradition, aims to establish communication with God through contemplation of the Bible. Gen Z, who are prone to mental disorders and spiritual crises, face challenges in the digital age. This study aims to reveal how Christian meditation can help improve their mental health and deepen their spirituality. The method used is a qualitative approach with literature analysis and case studies related to Christian meditation, mental health, and the development of Gen Z's spirituality. It can be concluded that digital technology has a significant impact on Gen Z's mental health, including increased anxiety, stress, and decreased quality of life. In the face of such pressures, Christian meditation, offers a spiritual solution that fosters inner peace and a deeper connection with God. Therefore, churches and Christian communities need to integrate Christian meditation as a means of mental recovery and strengthening Gen Z's spirituality in the digital age.
