Abstract

The classification of cigarettes as a food item by Indonesia’s Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) in household expenditure data has sparked controversy, as it contradicts the definition of food according to several other government institutions. This study aims to analyze inter-agency differences in perspective regarding this classification and assess its implications within the context of public policy. A qualitative descriptive method was used, involving document analysis and in-depth interviews with representatives from BPS, the Food Security and Agriculture Office, the Health Office, the Industry and Trade Office, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs. The findings reveal that BPS relies on the Classification of Individual Consumption According to Purpose (COICOP-18), an international standard issued by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), which categorizes cigarettes under "food and non-alcoholic beverages" for global statistical comparison. However, related agencies firmly oppose this classification, arguing that it conflicts with principles of nutrition, public health, and ethics, and may create public confusion. The divergence of views highlights a lack of policy coordination across sectors and underscores the need for classification systems that better reflect Indonesia’s cultural and social context. This study recommends a reassessment of the use of international standards and stronger inter-agency alignment to ensure classifications serve national health and welfare objectives.

Abstract

This study analyzes the supply and demand of Indonesian robusta coffee over the past 10 years. Multiple linear regression analysis results indicate that on the demand side, only per capita income has a significant influence, while coffee price and population are insignificant. On the supply side, coffee price, harvested area, and productivity variables are found to have significant effects. Classical assumption tests indicate multicollinearity and autocorrelation issues in the model. Overall, the study concludes that robusta coffee supply is strongly influenced by production factors (land and productivity), while demand is more influenced by purchasing power (per capita income) than by price. These findings provide important insights for stakeholders to improve the competitiveness and welfare of Indonesian robusta coffee commodities.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the turmeric farming of the BPP Driyorejo farmer group. The stages of this research began with identifying problems with the aim of collecting data and observing and then proceeding with analyzing production costs which then carried out acceptance calculations, R/C ratio analysis and BEP analysis to determine the feasibility of farming in the BPP Driyorejo farmer group. The R/C ratio test obtained a result of 2.6 > 1 so that the farming was said to be feasible, the revenue BEP was 656,598.227 with a total revenue of 7,368,103, of which 7,368,103 > 656,598.227 so that the turmeric farming made a profit. The production BEP calculation is 0.187128 kg where the total production of turmeric is 2105 kg > 0.187128 kg so that this turmeric farming is profitable and feasible to develop. Calculation of the price BEP is IDR 1,341, where the price of turmeric is 3,500 > 1,341 so that the turmeric farming is profitable and feasible to develop.
