Abstract

This study explores how two leading national online media, detikcom and Kompas.com, construct news frames around the issue of isolation on Enggano Island through the analytical lens of Robert Entman’s framing model. Enggano, a frontier island in Bengkulu Province, has long been characterized by poor transport connectivity, limited infrastructure, and minimal state attention. Each media outlet offers a different interpretive stance, revealing how developmental inequality and the dynamics between Indonesia’s center and periphery are discursively shaped. This study adopts a qualitative framing analysis by applying Entman’s four analytical dimensions: defining the problem, diagnosing causes, making moral evaluations, and suggesting remedies. The data comprise ten online articles published in June 2025, all addressing isolation and development on Enggano. The findings indicate that detikcom constructs the issue primarily through geographical and factual perspectives, portraying Enggano as a remote area requiring infrastructure improvement. Conversely, Kompas.com situates the story within the broader context of policy disparity and governmental accountability, using a tone that is both critical and empathetic toward local communities. In terms of moral evaluation, detikcom maintains descriptive neutrality, while Kompas.com underscores unequal national development and advocates for implicit moral concern. Despite these differences, both outlets stop short of offering concrete policy recommendations. Overall, this study demonstrates that media framing serves as a pivotal mechanism for shaping how isolation and developmental inequality are perceived in Indonesia’s peripheral regions. The findings extend theoretical discussions in development communication and media studies, particularly regarding how the national media reproduces or challenges spatial inequalities within the discourse of public policy and national development.

Abstract

Underage motorcycle riding has become a persistent social and road-safety problem in Padang Sarai Urban Village, Koto Tangah District, Padang City, despite legal age and licensing requirements. This study examines the phenomenon through Travis Hirschi’s Social Bond Theory, focusing on attachment, commitment, involvement, and belief. A qualitative descriptive design was employed as the primary approach, supported by descriptive quantitative data. Primary data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and closed-ended questionnaires, while secondary data were obtained from relevant documents and literature. Informants were selected purposively, and questionnaires were distributed to 98 respondents drawn from 6,369 households using the Slovin formula with a 10% margin of error. Qualitative data were analysed through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, whereas questionnaire responses were analysed using frequencies and percentages. The findings indicate that underage motorcycle riding is sustained by weak emotional attachment between children and parents, low commitment to rules and future consequences, limited involvement in constructive activities, strong peer influence, and weak belief in legal and social norms. Parental busyness, permissive family practices, community tolerance, and the normalisation of underage riding further weaken social control. The study concludes that this behaviour is not merely an individual traffic violation but a socially embedded form of deviance. Strengthening parental supervision, family communication, positive youth activities, legal socialisation, and coordinated community control is essential to reduce underage motorcycle use.

Abstract

The phenomenon of the circulation of illegal alcoholic beverages in certain areas has generated negative impacts on the community, particularly on the younger generation. This issue requires serious attention given the weak existing monitoring mechanisms, thus necessitating an in-depth examination of the social control efforts carried out by the local community. This study aims to describe the various forms of social monitoring implemented by the community and to identify the obstacles encountered in efforts to control the circulation of illegal alcoholic beverages in Kampung Air Dingin, Basa Ampek Balai Tapan District. The research employed a qualitative design with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through field observation and in-depth interviews with key informants. Data analysis refers to F. Ivan Nye’s theory of social control. The findings indicate that community monitoring is divided into two categories. First, direct control includes patrol operations and raids by police officers, counseling activities, the confiscation of evidence, monitoring by local youth groups, and warnings from community leaders. Second, indirect control is implemented through religious guidance by religious leaders and the magrib mengajar program initiated by the youth. The effectiveness of monitoring remains constrained by several factors, namely suboptimal law enforcement, the still-low level of residents’ awareness, and the ongoing tradition of consuming alcoholic beverages during wedding ceremonies. Stronger synergy between the community and law enforcement officers is needed to achieve effective social control.

Abstract

The development of digital technology requires teachers to integrate technology-based interactive learning into the teaching process. The Covid-19 pandemic has significantly transformed educational practices, particularly the shift from face-to-face learning to online learning. This transition has required teachers to adapt to various digital applications that were previously unfamiliar. Du            ring its implementation, several challenges emerged, including low student engagement, boredom, and limited active participation in learning activities. These conditions pose challenges for teachers to create engaging and interactive learning environments. However, not all teachers possess sufficient knowledge and skills in selecting and utilizing appropriate digital learning media. Based on these issues, this community service activity was conducted through a training program aimed at improving elementary school teachers’ understanding and competence in designing interactive digital learning using the Mentimeter platform, while also introducing the concept of Active Learning Strategies (ALS) in the digital era. The implementation methods included training sessions, guided practice, and evaluation. The activity was attended by 11 teachers of SDN 26 Kota Bengkulu and was conducted on November 21, 2025. The results indicate an improvement in teachers’ understanding of ALS concepts and their competence in using Mentimeter, as reflected in questionnaire results where the majority of participants gave responses in the good and very good 91% categories. These findings demonstrate that the training materials were relevant and effectively supported the development of teachers’ competencies in the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

Abstract

This research was motivated by the recurring issue of flooding in residential areas of Lubuk Buaya Subdistrict. The study aims to describe the decision-making process within families in choosing to remain in flood-prone settlements and to identify the factors that influence such decisions. The theoretical framework employed is the rational choice theory proposed by James S. Coleman. The findings reveal that the decision-making process within families to stay in flood-prone areas occurs in two ways: through individual decisions made by each spouse, and through collective decisions made by all family members based on mutual agreement. Several factors influence the family's decision to remain in these areas, including length of residence, social relationships, proximity to workplace, and housing status
