Abstract

Abstract

The Industrial Revolution 4.0 has brought digital transformation that drives a shift from automated systems toward interconnected intelligent systems. In this context, Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) plays a significant role across various sectors, including education, through its ability to process multiple data types and deliver rapid analysis. Although Gen AI has been widely utilized by academic communities, its application in the learning process requires careful supervision. A study conducted by Kosmyna et al. found that students who continuously rely on Gen AI for problem-solving in learning experience a cumulative decline in their learning abilities. Based on these findings, a community service initiative was conducted at SMP Putra Pertiwi using two main approaches: first, providing counseling to students and educators regarding the negative impacts of uncontrolled Gen AI usage; second, designing a Gen AI-based system blueprint that continues to promote effective learning while granting schools full control over the management of learning resource access. This initiative is expected to serve as a model for the responsible implementation of AI technology in educational environments.

Abstract

The development of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has had a significant impact on education, particularly in assisting students with school assignments. However, the use of AI without proper understanding of ethics and data security may lead to various issues, such as plagiarism, technology dependency, and risks of personal data leakage. This Community Service activity aimed to improve students’ understanding of ethical AI usage and the importance of digital data security. The activity was conducted over three days at SMA Al Wafi Islamic Boarding School using lecture, discussion, demonstration, and hands-on practice methods. The results showed that participants gained better understanding regarding responsible AI usage. In addition, this activity successfully developed a web-based application called “AI Ethics Checker for Assignments” to help students independently evaluate the ethical use of AI in school assignments. The application includes text checking, AI ethics checklists, paraphrasing suggestions, and digital data security education features. In the future, the application can be further developed using Fuzzy Logic, Machine Learning, and Deep Learning methods to improve the intelligence and accuracy of analysis. This activity is expected to encourage ethical, secure, and responsible AI usage culture in educational environments.

Abstract

The Fourth Industrial Revolution has driven digital transformation, shifting conventional automation toward interconnected intelligent systems. In this context, Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) plays a significant role across various sectors, including education, due to its ability to process diverse types of data and generate analyses rapidly. Although Gen AI has been widely adopted by the academic community, its use in learning activities requires careful supervision. A study conducted by Kosmyna et al. indicates that prolonged dependence on Gen AI for solving learning-related problems may lead to a cumulative decline in students' learning abilities. Based on these findings, a community service program was conducted at SMP Putra Pertiwi, where students are permitted to use smartphones during classroom learning activities. The program involved 12 teachers and 92 students and was implemented through two main approaches: (1) educational outreach on the potential risks of uncontrolled Gen AI usage, and (2) the design of a Gen AI–based learning system blueprint that enables schools to maintain full control over access to learning resources. The results of the program demonstrate that the educational outreach and discussions were successfully conducted with all target participants and produced a blueprint for a Gen AI–based learning system that can serve as an initial reference for schools in developing a structured, responsible, and institutionally controlled AI-supported learning environment.
