Abstract

This study aims to determine whether the use of digital flashcards significantly improves reading comprehension of descriptive texts in seventh-grade students at MTS Muslimat NU Palangka Raya. This study also addresses the hypothesis that there is a significant difference in students' reading comprehension improvement before and after treatment. Using a One-Group Pretest-Posttest pre-experimental design, this study involved a population of 115 students, with a sample of 25 students from grade VII-D selected through purposive sampling. The treatment was conducted over three sessions, focusing on vocabulary development and identifying generic structures in descriptive texts. Data were collected through a 20-item multiple-choice test. The results showed a significant improvement in student performance: the average pretest score was 58.50 (SD = 6.25), which increased to an average posttest score of 77.50 (SD = 5.40). Statistical analysis using a paired-sample t-test yielded t (24) = 4.24, p < 0.001, indicating that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. These findings suggest that digital flashcards are an effective and innovative tool for improving reading comprehension. However, the lack of a control group and the specific geographic context limit the generalizability of these results. Future research should include larger sample sizes and true experimental designs to further validate these results.

Abstract

The development of digital media has encouraged radio as a conventional broadcasting medium to adapt through interactive communication practices with listeners. This study aims to analyze the patterns and dynamics of interactive communication implemented by Radio Aqila 102.6 FM Medan in building relationships with listeners. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews, broadcast observations, and documentation of radio interactive communication activities, both through on-air broadcasts and digital media. The results of the study indicate that Radio Aqila 102.6 FM Medan's interactive communication takes place in a limited two-way pattern, where radio still holds dominant control over the communication flow. The dynamics of interactive communication are influenced by management policy factors, broadcaster competence, and the use of digital media that has not been optimally integrated. This study concludes that radio interactive communication is not yet fully dialogic and participatory, so a more planned communication strategy is needed to increase listener engagement on an ongoing basis.

Abstract

Abstract

Diabetic wounds are a major clinical challenge due to delayed healing and increased complication risks. Ethanol extract of avocado leaves (Persea americana Mill.) has previously shown promise in enhancing tissue regeneration in diabetic wounds, but its potential in gel form remains untested. This study aimed to develop an avocado leaf ethanol extract-based gel and evaluate its woundhealing potential in diabetic mice. Avocado leaves were extracted using 70% ethanol and formulated into a gel, which was evaluated for physical properties and topical suitability. Diabetic mice were divided into five groups: normal control, negative control (gel base), positive control (bioplacenton), and two treatment groups (5% and 10% gel). Diabetes was induced using alloxan (150 mg/kg BW), followed by wound induction and treatment. Wound healing was assessed through visual assessment, wound diameter reduction, and healing duration. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA with a 95% confidence level. Results showed the gel meets physical properties (pH test, organoleptic test, homogeneity test, spreadability test) and significantly improved wound healing in diabetic mice. The 5% gel demonstrated wound-healing activity due to bioactive compounds such as saponins, tannins, alkaloids, and flavonoids. Further analysis is needed to identify the specific components responsible for the healing effects, highlighting the gel’s potential for diabetic wound treatment.

Abstract

The development of Information and Communication Technology has changed the way people communicate and receive information, making the spread of hoaxes easier. Low awareness of fact-checking, particularly among individuals with high levels of social media use, poses a challenge to digital media literacy. This condition is also found among members of the Roemah Tawon Foundation, who have a limited understanding of media literacy in the digital era. This community service activity aims to enhance media literacy by improving participants' ability to distinguish between hoax and valid information. The activity was implemented through socialization or counseling using an interactive lecture approach. The target participants were housewives and elementary and secondary school students who are members of the Roemah Tawon Foundation in Tangerang city. The results indicate an increase in participants’ understanding of how to differentiate between hoax and valid information, as demonstrated by their ability to answer questions and actively engage in discussions. This improvement is expected to foster greater awareness in applying the 3C principle (check, compare, and confirm) before sharing information.
