Abstract

The learning of Natural Sciences can be conducted using methods suitable for the teaching materials. The research aims to determine the application of diorama media in improving the learning outcomes of Science related to the water cycle material in fifth grade students at SD Negeri No. 075079 Baruyu Lasara, South Nias District. The type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) comprising 2 cycles. The subjects of the research are fifth-grade students totaling 15, consisting of 8 boys and 7 girls. The study takes place from April to May 2024. The research instruments are observation and written tests. The results of the research using diorama media show that in cycle 1, the classical learning completeness of students was 53%, and in cycle 2, it showed a completeness percentage of 100%. In other words, many students who passed (above the Minimum Passing Criteria) in the research results of cycle 1 were only 8 students who passed. After improvements in learning were made using diorama media in cycle 2, the number of students who passed increased by 15, and they were declared to have met the Minimum Passing Criteria. This proves that the use of diorama media in teaching the water cycle material is capable of significantly improving science learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the level of learning motivation in Natural Science (IPA) among third, fourth, and fifth-grade students at SD Qita Purwokerto. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, using a learning motivation questionnaire consisting of several closed-ended statements. The respondents comprised 28 students: 11 from grade III, 9 from grade IV, and 8 from grade V. The data were analyzed using percentage techniques to classify motivation levels into four categories: very high, high, moderate, and low. The results revealed that overall, students' learning motivation fell into the high to very high categories, with no students categorized as having low motivation. Specifically, 60.7% of students were in the very high category, 28.6% in the high category, and 10.7% in the moderate category. Grade IV had the highest percentage in the very high category (77.8%), followed by grade III (54.5%), while grade V showed a balanced distribution between high and very high categories. These findings indicate that students exhibit strong interest and drive in learning Natural Science, which may be influenced by instructional methods, classroom environment, and teacher support. The results provide a positive outlook on the learning climate of Natural Science at the elementary school level and can serve as a basis for designing more engaging and motivational instructional strategies.
