<![CDATA[The maritime industry generally recruits vocational graduates who possess specific skills, such as technical drawing and proficiency in Computer-Aided Design software. However, some vocational high school students still have limitations in industry-based drafter practice and the use of CAD software. This community service activity aims to improve the basic competencies of vocational high school students as ship construction technical drafters through structured CAD training. The activity was held at Politeknik Negeri Batam on 7–10 October 2025, involving 26 participants from SMKS Kartini Batam and SMKS Al Jabar Batam, consisting of students and accompanying teachers. The implementation methods included theoretical instruction, demonstrations, hands-on practice, simple industry-based case studies, and intensive mentoring. The training materials covered an introduction to ship construction, basic CAD usage, basic object creation, dynamic input, editing tools, orthographic drawing, dimensioning, templates, plotting, and an introduction to three-dimensional CAD. Evaluation was conducted through a pre-test, post-test, and participant satisfaction questionnaire. The results showed an improvement in participants’ understanding and basic skills in the field of ship construction drafting. Based on the questionnaire results, 95.8% of participants strongly agreed that the training materials were useful, 87.5% strongly agreed that the materials were relevant to their needs, and 87.5% strongly agreed that their knowledge and skills improved after participating in the training. Therefore, this training was effective in strengthening basic CAD-based drafting competencies and supporting vocational high school students’ readiness to meet the needs of the maritime industry.]]>
