Abstract

A starter generator (DC generator) is a DC machine that acts as a motor when starting the engine and will become a DC generator when it reaches a certain speed. The DC Starter Generator will function as a starter mode when the speed is <45% NH and will become a DC generator mode when the speed is >61.5%. There are several types of starter generators on ATR aircraft: 8260-121, 8260-123, and 8260-124. The uses and functions of the three types are the same, but the maintenance schedule intervals are different. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the planned maintenance intervals (brush change, bearing change, and overhaul) and the causes of differences in maintenance intervals for the starter generator. The type of research used is comparative research, where this research compares several parameters related to the planned maintenance of the Starter Generator, which will be operated within 10,000 FH. The results of the treatment intervals obtained are that types 8260-121 and 8260-123 each will require 16 times maintenance, while types 8260-124 only need 8 times maintenance. The difference in the number of treatments being less in the 8260-124 type is due to the modification of the brush. In addition, the type 8260-124 has also used a new technology commutator. Therefore, this type is superior to the other two because it can save operational aircraft costs.

Abstract

Marine ambulance, as medically equipped vehicle which tranports patient to referral facilites, is very important in Batam archipelago. Routine maintenance activities is conducted to ensure all systems function properly. The maintenance includes maintenance of ship mechanics and ship engines, electrical systems, and hull cleaning. Maintenance standard operating procedure (SOP) is composed to help ship crew conducting ship maintenance. The maintenance activity repairs system problems successfully and appreciated by ship crew, LAZ Batam, and Awal Bros Hospital as service provider; and community who benefited by the service. Healthcare service operates well although some respondents think there is lack of equipments. Safety equipment and medical equipment are not enough for 13% and 20% respondents, respectively. However, all respondent think that the maintenance activity has repaired ship system and ensure ship to operate properly, and deliver healthcare service well.

Abstract

A centrifugal pump is an essential mechanical device in the Regional Drinking Water Company (PDAM) to distribute sterile water from the reservoir to local community houses by flowing the fluid through the pipeline. However, improper and inadequate maintenance of centrifugal pumps can result in component damage, including bearings that are broken, ripped, or damaged mechanical seals. Therefore, for the water supply to continue smoothly, proper maintenance needs to be carried out so that the engine's performance will be maintained and last longer. This study aims to conduct a maintenance analysis on centrifugal pumps utilized by the PDAM of Madiun City. The Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) method was employed to assess the potential failure of a system, design, process, or service by implementing a systematic approach to analyze damage and devise maintenance strategies. The FMEA analysis revealed that the shaft of the centrifugal pump component had the highest Risk Priority Number (RPN) value, which amounts to 294. The wearing ring had the lowest RPN value among the centrifugal pump components, with a value of 54. The Pareto diagram results classified six components: shaft, clutch, stuffing box, motor, impeller, and mechanical seal to recommend preventative maintenance action. Additionally, three other components suggested for corrective maintenance were the bearing, packing, and wearing rings

Abstract

An engine bleed trip is an indication that there is a failure in the engine bleed system in regulating the temperature and pressure of the bleed air. This can affect the work of other systems that rely on the output of the engine bleed system, one of which is the cabin pressure system. The aim of this research is to find out the percentage level of the need for main components in the engine bleed system to be replaced in handling engine bleed trip cases. This research is an ex post-facto comparative research with primary data collection methods sourced from aircraft maintenance databases and interviews. The research results showed that from a total of 52 bleed trip cases that occurred during 17 months, the percentage of main components that needed to be replaced were the 390F thermostat sensor (42.3%), precooler control valve (19.2%), pressure regulating shuttle valve (11 .5%), bleed air regulator (7.7%), and the rest are other components.

Abstract

Kota Batam merupakan daerah dengan julukan kota industri. Sejak setelah bertranformasi menjadi kawasan industri kota Batam memiliki berbagai macam indutri yang dibangun, sehingga terbuka banyak peluang kerja yang tersedia. Salah satu keberlanjutan yang perlu didukung yaitu ketersediaan tenaga kerja terampil yang memiliki kompetensi dibidang keteknikan. Gambar dan penggunaan software CAD menjadi salah satu kompetensi yang perlu dipenuhi oleh masyarakat. Upaya menyediakan tenaga kerja terampil dapat dilihat dari tersedianya sekolah menengah kejuruan. Meskipun demikian, keterbatasan fasilitas praktik menjadi salah satu kendala yang dihadapi sebagian sekolah dalam melaksanakan layanan pendidikannya. Kegiatan Pelatihan Penggunaan Software AutoCAD kepada siswa/i SMK Kota Batam Tahun 2024 kemudian hadir menjadi salah satu solusi untuk dapat membantu sekolah dalam meningkat mutu pendidikan vokasi di Kota Batam. Pelatihan ini didanai secara internal oleh Politeknik Negeri Batam dan telah dilaksanakan di Politeknik Negeri Batam pada 23 – 26 Juli 2024. Adapun mitra peserta pengabdian ini adalah dari siswa dan guru SMK S Aljabar Batam, SMK S Kartini, SMK N 9 Batam. Beberapa luaran yang telah diselesaikan pada kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah terselenggaranya kegiatan dan penyusunan modul pelatihan. pemberitaan pada media masa, HKI modul, poster dan video kegiatan.

Abstract

This study explores aircraft image classification using MobileNetV2 combined with Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM) for model interpretability. A dataset of 1,500 balanced images—helicopters, propeller aircraft, and jets—was split into training, validation, and testing sets with data augmentation to reduce overfitting. Transfer learning with pre-trained MobileNetV2 achieved an accuracy of 87.56%, with macro-average precision and recall of 85.76% and 87.69%. Grad-CAM visualizations confirmed that correct predictions relied on distinctive features such as rotor blades, propellers, and engines, while misclassifications often stemmed from background distractions or less discriminative areas. These findings demonstrate the potential of lightweight architectures for small-scale datasets and highlight the value of Explainable AI in validating deep learning models. The study provides a practical reference for educational contexts and offers directions for future work with larger datasets.

Abstract

Aircraft has become a mode of transportation experiencing a significant increase in demand in line with global mobility growth, including in Indonesia. The rise in flight cycles has consequently increased the need for reliable and cost-efficient aircraft tires. This study aims to analyze the reliability and failure patterns of retreaded aircraft tires using the two-parameter Weibull distribution method (β and η). Data were obtained from operational records of commercial aircraft and analyzed to determine the Mean Time To Failure (MTTF), failure modes, and maintenance strategy effectiveness. The results indicate that the highest reliability occurs in the third retreading cycle, with a reliability value of 0.99 and an MTTF of 180 flight cycles. The dominant failure mode is identified as wear-out failure, suggesting that preventive maintenance through regular inspection and replacement is the most effective approach. These findings provide a scientific basis for improving operational safety and efficiency while supporting the implementation of sustainable maintenance practices in the national aviation industry.

Abstract

Criminal acts in the community such as theft of motorized vehicles, bicycles and hit-and-run victims are increasingly widespread, in the last 1 year in Fanindo housing there have been four thefts of children's bicycles. Therefore, a security system is needed in the housing to prevent and monitor things that harm the community, namely in the form of CCTV. The methods carried out in the service include surveying the location to determine the strategic installation point with the local RT head, selecting the type of camera, determining the electrical path, determining the placement of the DVR (Digital Video Recorder), and software settings. This service activity received a very positive response from both the RT management and the local community and is expected to be able to reduce criminal acts such as theft and other criminal acts.

Abstract

The Boeing 737-900 ER aircraft has a system called landing gear indication which in its application uses a proximity sensor that is useful in providing information about the position of the landing gear. However, this system can experience problems where if the landing gear indication does not function, the pilot cannot obtain information from the instrument that ensures the position of the landing gear. The purpose of this study is to identify problems that often occur in the landing gear indication system on the aircraft. The analysis was carried out using the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) method with the Fishbone Diagram approach. From the identification results, it was found that the main cause was a problem with the proximity switch sensor experiencing corrosion and changes in position which caused the signal reading to be inaccurate. For this reason, it is necessary to replace components and adjust the sensor position so that the system can run properly.

Abstract

Pendidikan vokasi merupakan pendidikan yang mencetak generasi bangsa dengan standar kemampuan lulusan atau alumni siap pakai sesuai kebutuhan dan tuntutan dunia industri. Maka penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas tingkat pemahaman dan kompotensi keahlian terhadap pelaksanaan magang mahasiswa Teknik Perawatan Pesawat Udara Politeknik Negeri Batam. Penelitian ini menggunakan mixed method (gabungan metode kualitatif dan kuantitaf), dengan analisis deskriptif survei. Analisis data menggunakan aplikasi SPSS 20 dengan perolehan data melalui Kuesioner Penelitian, Laporan Industri, hasil wawancara mahasiswa magang dan data pendukung lainnya. Adapun jumlah responden dalam penelitian ini 68 mahasiswa dan pendamping industri. Hasil penelitian ini diperoleh bahwasanya tingkat pemahaman dan kompetensi keahlian terhadap pelaksanaan magang mahasiswa tidak berpengaruh dalam kategori tinggi, dengan kata lain besaran pengaruh rendah senilai 36%, sedangkan sisanya 64% dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa, tingkat pemahaman dan kompetensi keahlian yang dimiliki mahasiswa sudah memenuhi standar kebutuhan kerja industri. Sehingga pasca pelaksanaan magang sekalipun hanya memberikan feedback yang rendah terhadap pemahaman dan keahlian mahasiswa magang. Implikasinya ialah efektivitas tingkat pemahaman dan kompetensi kehalian tidak memberikan dampak yang signifikan terhadap pelaksanaan magang mahasiswa
