Abstract

Basic Gyaku Tsuki Technique Skills among Extracurricular Karate Students at SMPN 1 Narmada Abstract This study aimed to determine the level of basic gyaku tsuki technique skills among extracurricular karate students at SMPN 1 Narmada in 2024. A descriptive quantitative design with a performance-test survey method was used. The sample included the entire population of 37 extracurricular karate students; therefore, total sampling was applied. The instrument was a gyaku tsuki skill test assessing three movement phases: initial stance, execution, and follow-through. Each student performed two trials, and the scores were averaged and classified into good, sufficient, and poor categories. Data were analyzed using frequencies and percentages. The results showed that 10 students (27.03%) were in the good category, 8 students (21.62%) were in the sufficient category, and 19 students (51.35%) were in the poor category. Most students had not mastered gyaku tsuki optimally, indicating the need for a more structured and repetitive basic technique training program.
