Undergraduate education students often face writing anxiety as a psychological challenge that impacts their academic performance. This Community Service activity aims to explore the effectiveness of writing enlightenment-themed short stories in English as a form of anxiety appraisal among undergraduate education students throughout the Madiun Residency. The activity was designed in two stages: a webinar on March 5, 2026, and a one-month intensive mentoring class (March 6–April 6, 2026), using a service learning approach and a pre-post survey design. A total of 84 participants completed a pre-webinar questionnaire, while 46 participants completed a post-webinar questionnaire covering four dimensions: writing anxiety, challenge appraisal, creative writing preferences, and readiness and self-efficacy. The results showed a decrease in perceived writing barriers and a significant increase in self-efficacy post-activity. The English-based reappraisal writing approach proved effective in creating emotional distancing, helping participants express emotional experiences more objectively and constructively. This activity confirmed that structured creative writing can function as a meaningful anxiety management strategy for student teachers.
