Abstract

The sustainability of psychosocial impacts from long-distance parenting programs depends heavily on the availability of post-intervention social support systems. This article examines the process of strengthening the role of the Muhammadiyah community as a psychosocial support system and family resilience node for diaspora families in Malaysia and Hong Kong, as one of the outputs of the 'Family Resilience in the Digital Era' International Community Service (PMI) program. The program's third session, held on May 24, 2026, specifically focused on strengthening two of the four Family Resilience pillars, Communication and Emotional Support, through building a digital community support network, conducted entirely via Zoom Meeting and involving 38 participants from Malaysia and Hong Kong. Results showed the formation of two community communication groups, the Malaysia Diaspora Parenting Group and the Hong Kong Diaspora Parenting Group, which remained active after the main activity as spaces for consultation, experience sharing, and mutual reinforcement among diaspora parents. This article analyzes the role of an Islamic value-based community in sustaining the psychosocial resilience of migrant families and formulates a sustainability framework replicable in other Muhammadiyah diaspora communities.
