Abstract

Stunting remains a health issue requiring preventive efforts, one of which is exclusive breastfeeding. For working mothers, the success of exclusive breastfeeding can be influenced by social support, yet it is also linked to various internal and external factors. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the level of social support and the success of exclusive breastfeeding among working mothers as a stunting prevention strategy. A descriptive-analytic design with a quantitative approach and a cross-sectional study was employed in the working area of the Samadua Community Health Center (Puskesmas), South Aceh Regency. The sample consisted of 92 working mothers who were breastfeeding, selected via purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews, then analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods (Chi-Square test). The results showed that 69 respondents (75.0%) received positive social support, and 72 respondents (78.3%) successfully practiced exclusive breastfeeding. Among mothers receiving positive social support, 57 (62.0%) succeeded in exclusive breastfeeding, whereas in the group receiving negative social support, 15 (16.3%) succeeded. However, the Chi-Square test results indicated no significant relationship between social support and the success of exclusive breastfeeding (p=0.075). Thus, the success of exclusive breastfeeding among working mothers is determined not only by social support but also by factors such as knowledge, motivation, workplace conditions, institutional policies, and the health status of both mother and infant
