Abstract

This study examined a comparison between Native Speakers (NS) of Indonesian and Indonesian language as a foreign language (Bahasa Indonesia untuk Penutur Asing - BIPA) learners in making email requests. In particular, this study analysed the different aspects of pragmatics of variations in structure and politeness in emails. This study involved nine NS of Indonesian who were studying master’s level programs at the University of Melbourne, and eighteen BIPA learners who took the subject Indonesian 4 in Semester 2, 2018 at the University of Melbourne. Participants wrote an email request based on a given scenario, which was requesting leave in the context of a workplace in Indonesia. The data were obtained by providing participants a description of the scenario, which prompted them to write an email request asking permission to take time off work. However, participants had freedom in terms of the style and structure of the email. In general, this study aimed to examine how their pragmatics varies, especially in terms of structure and politeness.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kesalahan berbahasa dalam praktik berbicara pemelajaran bahasa Indonesia bagi penutur asing di Universitas PGRI Semarang tahun 2018. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik simak catat atau observasi dan mencatat serta simak libat cakap atau wawancara. Data yang sudah diperoleh kemudian dianalisis dan diklasifikasikan berdasarkan bentuk-bentuk kesalahan. Hasil dari penelitian ini disajikan secara informal atau menggunakan deskripsi kata-kata dari penulis. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa (1) kesalahan berbahasa, khususnya kemampuan berbicara tersebut, dapat diklasifikasikan menjadi 5 jenis, yaitu kesalahan dalam pelafalan, kesalahan dalam intonasi, kesalahan dalam kalimat, kelancaran dan senyapan, dan kenyaringan, (2) kesalahan dari segi kalimat dapat dibagi lagi menjadi 3 jenis, yaitu kesalahan pilihan kata, kesalahan dalam penggunaan afiks, dan ketidakefektifan kalimat, dan (3) kesalahan berbahasa tersebut disebakan oleh beberapa faktor, diantaranya faktor psikologis (gugup/ grogi), penguasaan topik, kurangnya kosa kata, pemilihan kata, pemahaman tata bahasa dan tata kalimat, dan  interferensi bahasa ibu (B1).Kata Kunci: analisis kesalahan, bahasa Indonesia, pemelajaran BIPA (Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing), kemampuan berbicara, praktik berbicara

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan hubungan penguasaan kosakata dengan kesalahan diksi dalam kalimat bahasa Indonesia mahasiswa BIPA level akademik. Penelitian ini dilakukan di UPT Bahasa Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta, Indonesia dengan subjek mahasiswa yang sedang mengikuti pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia bagi Penutur Asing Program Darmasiswa 2016-2017. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dalam bentuk studi kasus. Penelitian difokuskan pada tipe-tipe kesalahan diksi dan hubungannya dengan penguasaan kosakata yang dimiliki oleh mahasiswa BIPA. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tipe-tipe kesalahan diksi dalam kalimat BIPA di antaranya yaitu 1) pemilihan diksi yang kurang atau tidak tepat, (2) kesalahan penggunaan verba aktif dan pasif, (3) penggunaan istilah asing, (4) penggunaan kata ganti yang kurang atau tidak tepat, (5) penggunaan konjungsi yang tidak tepat, (6) kelebihan kata atau pengulangan kata, (7) penggunaan kata tidak baku, (8) ketidakparalelan, (9) penggunaan preposisi yang tidak tepat, dan (10) susunan frasa yang terbalik. Penguasaan kosakata yang rendah berhubungan dengan banyaknya kesalahan diksi yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa BIPA. Makin banyak kosakata yang dikuasai oleh mahasiswa, makin baik pula kemampuannya dalam memilih diksi untuk dituliskan menjadi kalimat.

Abstract

AbstractWarga Negara Asing (WNA) tertarik datang ke Indonesia dengan beberapa latar belakang seperti  tertarik pada budaya, makanan, sosial, dan lain sebagainya. Melalui latar belakang tersebut WNA harus berkecimpung dengan Warga Negara Indonesia (WNI) melalui bahasa yaitu bahasa Indonesia. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu mendeskripsikan kesalahan pengucapan kosakata pelajar BIPA di UPT Bahasa Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa asing pelajar BIPA tingkat dasar di UPT Bahasa Universitas Sebelas Maret. Pelajar BIPA berasal dari lima negara yaitu Polandia, Filipina, Thailand, Vietnam, dan Meksiko. Kelima pelajar BIPA tersebut memiliki kemampuan dasar bahasa Indonesia yang berbeda.  Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode studi kasus. Hasil penelitian diuraikan dengan deskripsi data kesalahan pengucapan kosakata pelajar BIPA dari hasil temuan.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kesalahan pengucapan kosakata responden yang berasal dari Polandia, Filipina, Thailand, Vietnam, dan Meksiko masih sangat beragam. Kesalahan pengucapan kosakata pelajar BIPA tersebut di dalam penelitian ini di klasifikasikan setiap responden penelitian.

Abstract

BIPA development could not be separated from the material development. Teaching materials are also needed in every learning process and every level of education. During this time, the preparation of teaching materials and manufacturing is focused in an effort to introduce Indonesian culture is intended for adult level foreign speakers. The child learners also need special attention since many institutions also teaches Indonesian language to children. The focus of this paper is to provide sample materials aimed at teaching Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) for children. The materials presented are materials that match the characteristics of children young learners. Preparation of material well adapted to the principles of materials development for children who should be full of images and colors to attract more children to learn the language.

Abstract

The Keraton Yogyakarta (Yogyakarta Palace) has 10 soldiers whose names are different. Among them, Bugis Soldiers, Surakarsa Soldiers, Mantrijero Soldiers, Ketanggung Soldiers, Nyutra Soldiers, Prawiratama Soldiers, Jagakarya Soldiers, Patangpuluh Soldiers, Dhaeng Soldiers, and Wirabraja Soldiers. Each soldier’s name became the name of the village/hamlet in the City of Yogyakarta today. This toponimi study focuses on the names of the villages of the Yogyakarta Palace. Viewed from the origin of the language, the names of the village came from Sanskrit, Bugis, and Kawi. Insight into the names of the Yogyakarta  Palace village is useful for foreign speakers who are learning the language and culture of Indonesia (BIPA), especially in Yogyakarta. They can learn the origin of the names of the villages, and compare them with other regions in Indonesia, such as in West Java and DKI Jakarta and surronding areas.

Abstract

Indonesian for Nonnative Speakers (BIPA) teaching learning process must be done in a fun way, so that the students feel easier learning Indonesian in a relaxed and natural way. Natural language learning has proven to be more effective for second or foreign language learners, including BIPA students, especially for beginners. The game of guessing words at beginner-level BIPA learners becomes effective for students to remember the vocabulary that is needed or used daily not only to memorize but also to use the vocabulary in everyday conversation.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain an objective description of the results of learniing needs analysis for BIPA’s learners at beginner level to arrange learning tools. This research uses qualitative design with descriptive approach. The data of this research are words and documents which are then analyzed. Based on the results of the analysis obtained conclusions, namely the results of learning needs analysis BIPA’s students at beginner level.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between learning motivation towards the learning achievement of Indonesian language for non native speakers (BIPA) at 7th semester students in Indonesian Language and Literature Study Program. The research methods used was quantitative method with correlation design. The instruments of research were interviews, observation and questionnaire respondents' statements to 40 students at 7th semester. This was done in order to find out how the relationship between learning motivation and learning achievement by using correlational, determination and significance test. The purpose was to improve and evaluate the learning achievement. Due to the results of the calculation analysis by using Pearson correlation coefficient formula, there was a positive effect of correlation between learning motivation towards the learning achievement, which was equal of r = 0.50 that includes a fairly strong category (0.40–0.599). The results of testing the formula of t count is > t table that is 0.62 > 0.31, which means that H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. It means, the learning motivation as variable X has a significant influence on the learning achievement as variable Y. So, BIPA teaching materials are appropriate to be designed.

Abstract

Kata kunci: transfer negatif, pemerolehan bahasa ketiga, mahasiswa BIPA.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan (1) transfer-negatif leksikal, (2) transfer-negatif morfologis, (3) transfer-negatif sintaksis, dan (4) faktor yang memengaruhi transfer negatif dalam pemerolehan bahasa Indonesia sebagai B-3 mahasiswa BIPA Unesa angkatan 2015. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Subjek penelitian berjumlah lima mahasiswa BIPA angkatan 2015. Data penelitian berupa transfer-negatif di dalam kata dan kalimat, baik pada bahasa lisan maupun tulisan. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah tuturan dan tulisan mahasiswa BIPA Unesa angkatan 2015. Pengumpulan data penelitian menggunakan teknik simak bebas libat cakap, teknik simak libat cakap, teknik wawancara, teknik rekam, teknik catat, teknik penugasan, dan teknik dokumentasi dengan instrumen pengumpulan data berupa teks berita, daftar topik percakapan, pedoman wawancara, alat perekam, lembar catatan lapangan, kosakata dan dokumen hasil kerja. Penganalisisan data penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik HBB. Dari hasil penelitian ditemukan (1) transfer-negatif leksikal yang terdiri dari tiga kelas kata, yaitu kelas nomina, verba dan adjektiva. (2) Transfer-negatif morfologis muncul berupa penghilangan prefiks meN- pada verba dan penambahan prefiks meN- pada verba berkonfiks meN-kan. (3) Transfer-negatif sintaksis muncul berdasarkan penyusunan frasa dan struktur kalimat. (4) faktor yang memengaruhi terjadinya transfer negatif dalam pemerolehan bahasa Indonesia sebagai B-3 meliputi faktor (a) psikotipologi, (b) kemampuan dan tingkat masukan di lingkungan pebelajar, (c) penguasaan dimensi kompetensi leksikal, ukuran kosakata dan organisasi kosakata berkembang sebagai kemampuan pebelajar.Key words: Negative Transfer, a third language acquisition, BIPA students.This research aims to describe (1) lexical negative-transfers, (2) morphological negative-transfers, (3) syntactic negative-transfers, and (4) factors influencing the negative transfers in the Indonesian language acquisition as the third language of BIPA students in Unesa 2015. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Subjects numbered five students of BIPA 2015.  Research data were negative transfers in the words and sentences, either in spoken or written language. The data sources of this research were speech and writing class students of  BIPA Unesa 2015.  The collection of research data used the techniques involving free refer capably, ably involved refer techniques, interview techniques, recording techniques, note techniques, assignment techniques and documentation techniques with instruments of the news text, a list of conversation topics, interview guides, recorders, sheet field notes, vocabulary and document of the work. Analyzing research data was done by using circuit techniques to distinguish appeal. Based on the analysis of research data, it was found that there were negative transfers: (1) lexical  negative-transfers consisting of three classes: nouns, verbs and adjectives, (2) morphological negative-transfers appearing in the form of removal prefixes meN- the verb and addition of prefixes on the verb confixs men-kan. (3) syntactic negative-transfers  arising based on compilation of phrases and sentence structure. (4) factors that affect the occurrence of negative transfers in the acquisition of Indonesian as a third language factors include (a) psikotipologi, (b) the ability and level of input in the learners, (c) control of the dimensions of competence lexical, vocabulary size and organization of the vocabulary evolved as the ability learners.
