Abstract

Cyberbullying is one of the actions that violate the ITE Law where the crime is committed on social media applications such as Twitter. This action is difficult to detect if no one is reporting the tweet. Cyberbullying tweet identification aims to classify tweets that contain bullying. Classification is done using Support Vector Machine method where this method aims to find the dividing hyperplane between negative and positive class. This study is a text classification where more data is used, the more features are produced, therefore this research also uses Information Gain as feature selection to select features that are not relevant to the classification. The process of the system starts from text preprocessing with tokenizing, filtering, stemming and term weighting. Then perform the information gain feature selection by calculating the entropy value of each term. After that perform the classification process based on the terms that have been selected, and the output of the system is identification whether the tweet is bullying or not. The result of using SVM method is accuracy 75%, precision 70.27%, recall 86.66% and f-measure 77.61% on experiment iterMax value = 20, λ = 0.5, γ = 0.001, ε = 0.000001, and C = 1. The best threshold of information gain is 90%, with accuracy 76.66%, precision 72.22%, recall 86.66% and f-measure 78.78%

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Malaysia has implemented the first computer system in 1966. Since then, the government – through Ministry of Education – has introduced various initiatives to facilitate the adoption and diffusion of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). In line with the Vision 2020, Ministry of Education has draft ways so as to integrate ICT into education system. Malaysian government has invested millions of Ringgit for the usage of ICT in education. The investments include the building of computer labs, supplying of PCs, and related peripherals, training of teachers, and development of instructional material. The research will concentrate on the utilization, self-efficacy, integration, and satisfactory level of the Islamic Religious Secondary School teachers of Malaysia. Although there are only 55 of such schools but these schools are actually a sought after schools by parents due to its capability of producing leaders academically as well as spiritually. The study will deal with issues such as self-efficacy, utilization, and training needs/provided as well as the integration of ICT in teaching and learning. The analysis is adopting principle component analysis to determine the predictors of the underlying variables as well the use of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to strengthen the analysis. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in language teaching and learning is among considered suitable with the current education needs. However, the issue is regarding how far do teachers master the concept of computer-aided language learning, their skills in performing teaching by using ICT, mastery level as well as the constructions faced by the teachers. Therefore, this research is intended to examine the issues stated above. The research sample consisted of 87 Malay language teachers who were randomly selected around the Hulu Langat District in Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia. In this survey research, questionnaires were used to collect the relevant data. The research findings show that the computer-aided language teaching concept is being understood in various dimensions. In terms of training, most of the respondents have already attended basic computer courses. However, the courses related to teaching material preparation using multimedia, the usage of internet and website design are given less attention. The use of computer in Malay language teaching is able to increase students’ ability to master Malay language better. Therefore, aspects such as in-service training, preparation of interactive learning materials, encouraging the use of internet in teaching as well as preparing suitable technology with current situation are required to be given attention.Key words: Information and Communication Technology (ICT), language teaching and learning, teachers’ perspectives, and  students’ ability.About the Author: Yahya Othman, Ph.D. is a Senior Lecturer at the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education (SHBIE) University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Jalan Tungku Ling BE1410, Bandar Seri Begawan, Negara Brunei Darussalam. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Teaching nowadays is fast expanding rapidly and it requires modern technologies to provide more flexible and effective ways of improving teacher education, and connecting teachers to the global community. ICT (Information and Communication Technology) integration into teacher education, therefore, is the key to equipping and producing professional teachers as well as improved pedagogy. However, there is the need to consider the type and nature of teacher trainees before integrating ICT in teacher education programmes, because their perceptions are likely to differ. This study, therefore, focuses on the perceptions of teacher trainees (regular and sandwich students) regarding the integration of ICT in teacher education programme at the UNILAG (University of Lagos) in Akoka, Nigeria. It adopted the descriptive research design. Two hundred and fifty participants were involved. One research question and two hypotheses, based on the specific purposes, were raised and answered in the study. A self-constructed validated and reliable instrument was used to collect data. Results revealed that teacher trainees are favourably disposed to the integration of ICT into teacher education as indicated by the grand mean and standard deviation (M = 3.22; SD = 12.22). Significant differences in the perceptions of teacher-trainees regarding the integration of ICT in teacher education programme based on type of the programme was also discovered (t-cal = -2.315; df = 98; P < .05). Teacher-trainees have to realise that ICT has come to stay in their programme. They need to develop more confidence in their individual ability at becoming computer literate teachers in order to remain relevant in the modern day information age. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Modernity reduces the overall riskiness of certain areas and modes of life, yet at the same time introduces new risk parameters largely or completely unknown to previous eras. Spread of new communication technologies, and above all the internet as well as communication networks, has dramatically influenced identities of individuals and their cultures. A study of new ICT (Information and Communication Technology), particularly as the internet, is changing the way the world works and will continue to do so into the future. By its unprecedented power to move and process information, it is impacting on global living patterns, culture, and governance; in fact, the internet impacts on every aspect of our society today. The question is whether a country like Brunei Darussalam can endure preserving its values, while the internet keeps exerting a damaging influence that can threaten its identity? Thus, this critical review will focus on the internet as a new form of ICT and look at the social impact of its potential threat to the identity of Brunei Darussalam society.KEY WORD: Information and Communication Technology; Identity and Culture; Brunei Society; Internet; Social Impacts. About the Author: Norainna Besar is a Lecturer at the Academy of Brunei Studies UBD (University of Brunei Darussalam), Jalan Tunku Link, BE 1410, Bandar Seri Begawan, Negara Brunei Darussalam. Abstract

Higher Education Data Base (Pangkalan Data Perguruan Tinggi/PDDIKTI) is used by policy makers at Directorate of Higher Education at the Ministry of Research and Higher Education in order to improve the quality, relevance, affordability and equal access to higher education in which sustainable. In fact, the data still need improvements due to several causes such as invalidity, overlapping, and updating problems.  The management of PDDIKTI does not guarantee the validity of data, therefore universities should carry out regular updates to ensure data displayed on PDDIKTI website (http://forlap.ristekdikti.go.id) is legitimate for users who use the data such as HRD staff of companies in recruitment process.Mulawarman University has connected an Academic Information System (AIS) with PDDIKTI by using web service to process data updates. However, the process itself has a long mechanism and resulted in a slow progress because it must pass through several administrative stages ranging from the department, faculty and university. In the process, validity of the data is still on the department’s responsibility. This research has conducted a Proof of Concept (POC) on the use of web service to process data updates on PDDIKTI through AIS. It is carried out only at department level, consequently, the workflow of updates can become shorter and faster. Based on this result, there are two urgent needs that can be proposed to academic policy makers in campus: improved workflow and an updated standard of procedure in data updates from AIS to PDDIKTI.Higher Education Data Base (Pangkalan Data Perguruan Tinggi/PDDIKTI) is used by policy makers at Directorate of Higher Education at the Ministry of Research and Higher Education in order to improve the quality, relevance, affordability and equal access to higher education in which sustainable. Abstract

Color blindness is a condition where a person cannot distinguish colors that are of similar contrast. This paper reports an attempt to develop a mobile phone application that can run on any Android or Windows smart phone. The developed application/software tool is able to assist color blind people by converting an image with low contrast to an image with high contrast. The objective of the proposed work was to develop a program on the LabVIEW platform to i) acquire the image whose information should be processed, ii) develop an algorithm to display a high-contrast crisp image of the actual dull image, and iii) identify the colors and characters present in the dull image for messaging to the user’s phone. The work was implemented on the LabVIEW platform making use of various image processing tools to identify the color and text from the sign board that otherwise cannot be identified by color blind persons. The implementation was tested with several inputs to validate the performance of the proposed method. It was able to produce accurate results for more than 97.3% of the test inputs.
