Abstract

Surround a big river estuary coastline has a dynamic characteristic and change along a period of time, because of anatural process and/or it is accelerated by human activities. The surround Sekampung river estuary coastline located in Rawa Sragi area is one of the most dynamic coastlines in southern Lampung Province that has changed significantly from 1959 (as a natural process) to year 1987 (as an accelerated process by human activities) since the government of Indonesia has applied swamp drainage system for Rawa Sragi area. It is likely that the coastline has changed significantly in the period of 1987 to 2009 (as an increasing intensity of the human activities in the surrounding Rawa Sragi land). The objective of this research was to analyze the coastline change in the surrounding of Sekampung river estuary in two periods of time: (1) the change of the 1959 – 1987 period coastlines; and (2) the change of the 1987 – 2009 period coastlines. The method of this research was a GIS technique, the implementation was divided into three main steps: (1) the first analysis was conducted in laboratory include raster data source analysis and registration, coastline digitations, and overlaying and analysis of the coastline data; (2) field observation (ground check) was conducted to observe and verify the ground existing coastline; and (3) the last analysis wasconducted after ground check activity to improve and to verify the first coastline analysis results. The result of this research indicated that coastline change in the period of 1959 to 1987 increased the coast land as much as 717.19 hectares, but decreased the coast land as much as 308.51 hectares. Furthermore the coastline change in the period of 1987 to 2009 increased the coast land as much as 162.504 hectares, but decreased the coast land as much as 492.734 hectares. The 1959 – 1987 coastline change was a coast land increasing period, but the 1987 – 2009 coastline change was a coast land decreasing period. Keywords: Abrasion, accretion, coast land, coastline, estuary

Abstract

For more than a decade now, Nigeria has been witnessing a continuous improvement and boom in theapplication of Information and Communications Technology in all the vital sectors of her economy. Thereis an increasing dependency on computer programs for critical infrastructures, business processes andoperations. This boom is not abating, and is resulting in a corresponding increase in the number ofcompanies and individuals who join an increasing population of software engineers, enterprise applicationdevelopers and programmers. But regrettably, the boom has given rise to a host of ethical issues. Theability to make sound ethical judgement and decision is becoming very important as “half-baked” softwaredevelopers produce critical software that are supposed to run critical business functions and operations. Tocompound this problem the few technical schools or colleges that produce the very needed programmersand web designers do not have a clue that there is something negative creeping in from another angle;they do not have qualified or versed instructors to arm their graduates with the basic foundationknowledge in software professional ethics which is needed to effectively practise the art of softwareengineering in the society at large. This paper investigates the state of software engineering ethics in theface of Nigeria’s upwelling Information and Communications Technology and intention to produce and uselocally designed and implemented software. The paper calls attention to the nonchalance, dispassion andmass negligence attendant to this issue. It further highlights and calls for adherence to sound ethics at alllevels of software production in the Nigerian society at large. The paper uses a case-study and scenario toillustrate how to start doing so.

Abstract

The present study aims at investigating the effect of health information technology on time and cost saving in the perspective of users of teaching hospitals in in remote areas of Iran. This is an applied study with a descriptive-analytical and cross-sectional method conducted on users of hospitals in remote areas of Iran using stratified random sampling. Data collection instrument was a selfmade questionnaire, the face validity and reliability of which were confirmed by Cronbach’s alpha 0.94. Data were collected in person and analyzed by SPSS software V. 21 and descriptive and analytical statistics. Based on the Chi-square test results, there was a significant relationship between the effects of health information technology on time saving as well as cost saving. The results of Kruskal-Wallis test showed no significant relationship between education level, age and work experience and time and cost saving as well. User satisfaction is one of the most important aspects of the success of information systems, therefore, it is recommended that senior managers pay attention to the individual aspects of the employees working in the organization, provide them with necessary training before implementing the information systems, and involve them in the decisions in using such technologies.

Abstract

Advances in information technology is characterized by its characteristics by socioeconomic status will always be a difficult problem solved. System formed then divided between those who are able to adopt the technology that can not afford as a result of the presence of this innovation. Related to the gap in the information society, Green (2002) termed nouveau riche information for people who get sudden access to ICTs eg through promotion, becoming student) and nouveau poor information and people who lose access to ICTs as a result of poverty or sudden change in circumstances life eg unemployment. To overcome this problem in eastern Indonesia, the Indonesian government has made several programs, among other programs Warung Indonesia Information and Cyber Village establishment. Our aim wasto assess the Information Education Communication (IEC) on knowledge and practices regarding patientsafety measure among nursing officers. Methods: A Pre-Experimental one group pre-test post-test design was adopted involving 60 nursing officers. After obtaining informed consent nursing officers were allocated by using the Non-probability Conveniencesampling technique. IEC module was given to the nursing officers after the Pre-test was taken. An intervalof 7 days was given then post-test was obtained. Tool used in the study are Self-Structured Questionnaire onassessment of knowledge and practice. Results: The average change in the level of knowledge was significantly increase in post-test as comparedto pre-test. In pre-test 70% of nursing officers have average knowledge, 28.33% have poor knowledge and1.67% have good knowledge. The mean knowledge of the nursing officers was 6.37 and standard deviationswas 0.71. While in the post-test 78.33% of nursing officers have good post-test knowledge, 21.67% haveaverage knowledge and no nursing officers have poor knowledge. The mean knowledge of the nursingofficers was 11.7 and standard deviations 1.75.The change in the level of practice was also significantly increase in post-test as compared to pre-test. Inpre-test 60% of the nursing officers have average practice score, while 36.67% have poor practice and3.33% have good practice. The mean practice of the nursing officers is 13.5 and standarddeviations from to 0.71.Conclusion: The findings of the study shows that there is highly significant difference between the score ofpre-test and post-test. Therefore, and null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and IEC module is effective.
