Abstract

Alloxan causes the formation of reactive oxygen through the reduction process of alloxan (dialuric acid) in the β cells of pancreas. Free radicals cause damage  and decrease catalase enzyme activity. Black cumin seeds extract which contain carotenoids, thymoquinone, carvacrol, 4-terpineol, t-anethole, and tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) has antioxidant activity that is expected to inhibit reactive oxygen species (ROS) that is expected to increase pancreatic catalase activity. This study used 24 male Wistar rats, divided into 3 groups:1)group of rats fed with standard food, 2)group of rats induced by alloxan 125mg/kg /BB intraperitoneally on day 1, 3)groups of rats induced by alloxan 125mg/kg/BB intraperitoneally on day 1 and were given by black cumin seed extract 2500mg/kg/BB orally on day 4 until 17. On the 18th day of all rats were sacrificed and pancreatic tissue catalase activity were measured by the spectrophotometric method. The results of One-Way ANOVA showed significant difference (p=0.003) pancreatic tissue catalase activity of groups of rats fed with standard food (1696,96U/g±414,10U/g) compared with group of rats induced by alloxan (1287,58U/g±88,45U/g). There was significant difference (p=0.001) of pancreatic tissue catalase activity of groups of rats induced by alloxan (1287,58U/g±88,45U/g) with a group of rats induced by alloxan and given with black cumin seed extract (1764,83U/g±199,69U/g). The conclusion of this study showed that the administration of alloxan significantly decreased pancreatic tissue catalase activity of rat and black cumin seed extract significantly increased catalase activity because cumin extract has antioxidant effects.

Abstract

Abstract

Statins are the most widely prescribed drug for hyperlipidemic therapy and for the prevention of Cardiovascular disease. But although statins are very effective for the prevention of atherosclerosis, there are still patients with CVD. In this case, it is thought to be the influence of genetic factors. There is a static gene link to statin dose required for therapy, but there are still no relevant pharmacogenomic tests for statin therapy guidelines. This article describes basic pharmacogenomic terminology, genes (CETP, HMGCR, SLCO1B1, ABCB1, and CYP3A4 / 5), and progression of statin pharmacogenomic biomarkers for predicted therapeutic outcomes.

Abstract

CA-125 is the most commonly used tumor marker in ovarian cancer, its known as the "Gold Standard" for the diagnosis of ovarian cancer. CA-125 allegely related to the inflammatory mechanisms which associated with leukocytes and lymphocytes, as well as Lymphocyte Platelet Ratio. This study is to prove above hypothesis. The objective is to investigate CA-125 correlation as tumor marker of inflammatory hematology examination which consisting of Hemoglobin, leucocytes and PLR as indicator of inflammatory examination in ovarian cancer patient. The method is an observational analytic study with cross sectional retrospective descriptive. The sample is 42 patients medical record who are treated in Oncology Polyclinic RSUD ULIN in October 2014 - October 2017 period. Samples selected by time limitation method. Sampling technique using nonpropability method followed by purposive sampling method. After the data is taken and selected then processed into SPSS for normality test and continued by multiple linear regression test. The results showed that correlation analysis of CA-125 tumor marker on Hb, leukocyte and PLR levels was P = 858b; P value <0.05. The CA-125 relationship to Hb, leucocytes and PLR is a negative relationship (r Hb = -3,463, r leukocytes = -6,117, r PLR = -2.281), which means that more high the Hb, leukocyte and PLR value, conversely CA125 value become more low. The conclusions of this study is there no correlation of CA125 tumor marker against Hb, leucocytes and PLR in ovarian cancer patients. The results of this study indicate that the increasing of CA125 value is negative correlation because it is not followed by decreasing of Hb, increasing of leukocyte and PLR.

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, can affect almost all organs of the body with the most locations in the lungs. Immunity and high nutrients such as vitamin C, zinc and other antioxidants have shown good effects for infections, including tuberculosis. One effort to help accelerate sputum conversion of people with pulmonary tuberculosis is by supplementation of Zinc Sulphate and Omega 3.Objective: Analyze the role of Zinc Sulphate and Omega 3 on sputum conversion acceleration in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis at Surabaya Paru Hospital 2015.Method: This research use Randomized Pre Post Test Post Control Group Design design. In patients with pulmonary tuberculosis with Zinc Sulphate and Omega 3 in the treatment and placebo group in the control group. A sample of 20 patients consisting of 10 treatment patients and 10 control patients. Statistical test using paired T-Test, Friedman test and Mann whitney. Results: Friedman test showed that in the treatment group showed significant difference in the number of BTA between before and after supplementation (p=0,001), while in the control group significance of 0.141. Mann-Whitney test  showed no significant difference in the amount of reduction of BTA between the treatment group and the control group (p = 0.080). This means that statistically does not show any significant difference. Conclusions: Zinc Sulphate and Omega 3 play a role in accelerating sputum smear conversion of respondents. The results of smear test in pulmonary TB patients with Zinc Sulphate and Omega 3 supplementation showed positive results

Abstract

High levels of blood cholesterol or hypercholesterolemia is an important risk factor for a cardiovascular disease. In order to overcome this problem, giving statins drug such as simvastatin is an intervention that is often applied. Besides using this drug, it can also be accompanied by consuming herbal plants which is Ashitaba leaves (Angelica keiskei). It contains Chalcones which demonstrates anti tumour property and also antioxidant activity that can lower cholesterol levels, especially LDL in the blood. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Ashitaba leaves (Angelica keiskei) steeping administration in assisting simvastatin drugs to decrease the levels of Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) in the blood serum of male white rats Strain wistar (Rattus Norvegicus) with hypercholesterolemia. The population for this study was male white rats Strain wistar (Rattus Norvegicus) with samples taken in this study were 33 white rats. Data analysis for this study is using One Way Anova test. The result showed that supplementation of simvastatin treatment using steeping Ashitaba leaves might slightly reduce LDL level among male white rats Strain wistar (Rattus Norvegicus) with hypercholesterolemia. However, the result demonstrated not significant different.  To assist simvastatin drugs in lowering LDL levels in male white rats Strain wistar (Rattus Norvegicus) which is made to be hypercholesterolemia can lower LDL levels slightly but not significantly (p-value = 0,177) which is >a (0,05).
