Abstract

Anxiety is a mental disorder common in elderly people. In the process of becoming elderly, feelings of anxiety arise as a normal response to situations that accompany development, change, new experiences and find meaning in life. Anxious looks from physiological symptoms such as shaking, sweating, heart work increases and psychological symptoms such as panic, tension, confusion, unable to concentrate. This condition will inhibit the elderlys bio-psycho-social condition in living the rest of his life. One effect is seen from their sleep problems. This is observational research with cross-sectional approach. Samples were taken by consecutive sampling technique. 43 elderly who met the exclusion criteria. Research location at Posyandu Lansia Mojo, Surabaya. Data collection using Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety and Insomnia Severity Index questionnaires. the results of the study described 41.9% of subjects with anxiety disorders and 67.4% of subjects had insomnia disorders. The cross-tabulation results showed 48% of subjects without anxiety can occur insomnia disorders and only mild anxiety alone can cause insomnia in 100% of subjects. Rank Spearman Test shows a very strong relationship between anxiety with the incidence of insomnia in the elderly (Sig .000; coefficient correlation .535).

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Noise is a health risk that cannot be avoided in production process. Noise has the potential to cause hearing loss for workers. The bad news, noise damage due to noise is permanent. Audiometric screening at shipyard company employees found 81.2% experienced Sensory-Neural Hearing Loss. 61.5% of employees experience deafness in both ears. The research objective was to find the cause of deafness at shipyard company. Methods: A Quantitative research with cross sectional approach in 64 subjects who worked in the ship repair production unit. The sample is chosen with a simple random technique according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Assessment was carried out using questionnaires, measurement, and direct observations. Result: The bad habit of wearing ear protectors on employees as a cause of deafness (p<.001, Coef .517**). Sound level measurement shows the activity of chipping, welding, cutting and outfitting with noise intensity more than the recommended threshold (85 dBA for 8 hour per day). Noisy sources were found such as blowers, compressors, grinders, cutting mach ines, ringlet machines, hammer blows on plates and generators. Conclusion: Hearing loss in shipyard company employees is a work-related disease caused by the poor culture of wearing ear protectors. The habits does not wear earplug/earmuff tools because its not comfortable in the ear when the appliance is used, the tools too small so its easily lost, forgetten to carry, and tool are not available.

Abstract

Microplastics have been identified as food chain contaminants. Most plastic polymers are polyethylene. Microplastics in the gastrointestinal tract will undergo persorption through the cell gap at the end of the intestinal villi into the blood circulation to be distributed throughout the tissue. It is suspected that microplastics will trigger chronic inflammation. The aim of the study was to analyze the impact of oral exposure to polyethylene microplastics on the blood leukocyte cell count. Pure experimental research with posttest only control group design. Random allocation was used to divide 30 Rattus norvegicus wistar strains into each group of the same number. There were 4 exposure groups with a dose of D1=0.0375mg, D2=0.075mg, D3=0.15mg, D4=0.6mg of microplastic particles per day through an oral probe and 1 control group that was not given microplastics. Exposure is given for 90 days. One-way ANOVA test was used to analyze the difference in values between groups. The results of this study show an increasing trend in the mean of leukocyte biomarkers, neutrophil and basophil counts in the exposure group (1,2,3,4) compared to the control (0). Statistical tests showed significant values for leukocyte biomarkers (P= .048) and basophils (P= .040), where more exposure doses will cause an increase in the level of these biomarkers in the blood. Oral exposure to polyethylene microplastics had an effect on leukocytosis in the blood of Rattus norvegicus wistar strain.

Abstract

Introduction: Human exposure to microplastics continues to rise. Microplastics are harmful and are suspected of contributing to various health problems in humans, including reduced liver function.Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effect of oral polyvinyl chloride microplastic consumption on alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) levels in Rattus norvegicus Wistar strain.Method: Male Rattus norvegicus Wistar strain experiments were separated into control and experimental groups, with the experimental group receiving a 0.5 mg/day dose of polyvinyl chloride microplastic. The experimental animals' blood was taken using the cardiac puncture technique, and the ALP and GGT levels were determined using the kinetic photometric test method.Result and Discussion: The Shapiro-Wilk normality tests showed that the ALP variable from the control group (P=0.342) and the experimental group (P=0.727) was significantly different from the GGT variable from the control group (P=0.482) and experimental group (P=0.099). Thus, the data for the ALP and GGT variables are claimed to be normally distributed. The ALP variable (P = 0.237) and the GGT variable (P = 0.839) both passed the significant homogeneity test, indicating that the ALP and GGT variable data were homogeneous. The independent comparison test T-test findings indicated that the ALP variable (P=0.602) and the GGT variable (P=0.161) were not statistically significant. Conclusion: The oral administration of polyvinyl chloride microplastic had no significant influence on the ALP and GGT levels in the blood of Rattus norvegicus Wistar strain in the experimental group compared to the control group.

Abstract

Introduction: Microplastics can enter the human digestive system as polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Microplastics ingested by humans will accumulate in several organs. Microplastic accumulation in the liver causes inflammation, which damages hepatocyte cells, impairing liver synthesis function, one of which is the synthesis of blood clotting factors.Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of oral microplastic polyvinyl chloride on prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) in Rattus norvegicus strain Wistar (APTT).Method: The experimental design incorporated a post-test-only control group. There were 12 rats randomly assigned to the control (K) or experimental (E) groups. For 28 days, Group E was exposed to microplastic type PVC at a concentration of up to 0.5 mg/day in 1 cc of Aquabidest via an oral probe. Blood samples were analyzed using a coagulation analyzer at BBLK Surabaya. The statistical test used an independent t-test.Result: There was a significant difference in the mean PT value of group K (9.8 ± 0.99 seconds) compared to group E (14.23 ± 9 seconds) (p=0.024) and the mean APTT value of group K(18.32 ± 7.96 seconds) compared to group E(26.1 ± 18.15 seconds) (p=0.022).Discussion: These findings confirm the theory that exposure to polyvinyl chloride microplastics in the liver can induce hepatocyte cell inflammation and impair the liver's ability to synthesize blood clotting factors, resulting in prolonged PT and APTT values. Conclusion: Oral administration of PVC microplastic affects PT and APTT values.
