Abstract

Abstract:This study aims to determine the effect of sodium citrate and fumaric acid as a source ofacid in the tablet formula effervescent red ginger rhizome extract (Zingiber officinale Roxb. varrubrum) and obtain the optimum composition of the formula that has the physical properties oftablet effervescent red ginger rhizome extract (Zingiber officinale Roxb. var rubrum) that meetthe requirements. Optimization techniques used in research is a method of factorial design withtwo factors and two levels of sodium citrate and fumaric acid with low levels of 80 mg, and highlevels of 120 mg. Responses were observed to obtain optimum formula is hardness, friability, andthe soluble tablet (effervescent time). The result is the concentration of sodium citrate andfumaric acid did not significantly affect tablet hardness effervescent. Meanwhile, that issignificantly influences the friability and time effervescent soluble tablets. However, theinteraction between sodium citrate and fumaric acid did not significantly affect the hardness, friability, and the soluble tablet effervescent red giinger extract. Optimum formula tabletsobtained effervescent namely sodium citrate 80 mg and 80 mg of fumaric acid with 6,529 kgfresponse tablet hardness, tablet friability 0,1354%, and effervescent time of 5,98 minutes.Key words : Red ginger, effervescent tablet, factorial design

Abstract

Abstract: Forest honey is produced by wild bees by taking nectars from several kinds of plant. One of active chemicals contained within honey is flavonoid. It is believed as animmunomodulator due to it has role in fighting against free radicals and increasing body immunesystem against disease infection. This research aimed to understand the influences of foresthoney administration to the lymphocyte proliferation on male mice Wistar family. This researchis a pure, experimental with one way, random research design. Total of 20 rats was divided into 4groups. Each group was given honey forest with dose of 0,27; 0.54; 1.08 mL/200 g BW, andnegative control group was given aquadest 2.5 mL/200 g BW. The lymphocyte proliferation ismeasured from the amount of lymphocyte based on Optical Density (OD) values, the read onELISA reader at the wavelength of 550 nm. The result shown that the administration of foresthoney has effect on significance increase the lymphocyte proliferation (p0.05) than negativecontrol on male mice Wistar family.Key words : Foresthoney, lymphocyte proliferation, immunomodulator

Abstract

Abstract: Asiaticoside compound in gotu kola extract (Centella asiatica (L.) Urban) and rutincompound in extract of cassava leaves (Manihot utillissima Pohl.) has been proofed fordegenerative diseases treatment. Effervescent tablet was chosen to facilitate the herb gotu kolaextract and cassava leaves extract because of fresh sensation and easy to use. The aims of thisstudy was investigated the effect of tartaric acid, sodium bicarbonate, their interactions, anddiscovered the optimum composition in order to producing effervescent tablets for qualityrequirements. Quality requirements term in this study were the moisture content of granule, tablethardness, friability of tablets, dissolution time. The results showed that tartaric acid significantlyinfluenced moisture content of granules, tablets friability, dissolution time of tablets, whilesodium bicarbonate significantly affected tablets hardness. Based on super imposed contourplot, the optimum composition for effervescent tablets was at the level 1000 mg tartaric acid and1120 mg sodium bicarbonate. Keywords: gotu kola extract, cassava leaves extract, effervescent tablet

Abstract

Abstract: The aqueous fraction of methanolic extract of Ketapang (Terminalia catappa L.). wasinvestigated for its DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenger activity andthe total amount of phenolic using Folin-Ciocalteu method. It was found that the aqueousfraction of methanolic extract of Ketapang tested showed significant DPPH free radicalscavenging with IC50 value 34,071 0,424 g/mL. The total phenolic amount was 5.429 0.110mg equivalent mass value of gallic acid per gram aqueous fraction of the methanolic extract ofketapang leaves. Keywords: aqueous fraction, methanolic extract, Terminalia catappa, DPPH, total phenolic.

Abstract

Abstract : Research presented in this article investigated health seeking behavior among peoplein an urban area of Yogyakarta City Indonesia. The research was a cross-sectional surveyinvolved adults in Yogyakarta City who were selected using a cluster random samplingtechnique. Sample size was 640 respondents. Data were collected using a pre-testedquestionnaire during March to May 2010. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chisquare tests, and Logistic regression. A total of 559 questionnaires were completed, resulted in90% of response rate. Mostly respondents stated that they had one to three medical complaintswithin a month (51% of 559). The most popular health seeking behavioris a combination betweenself-care and consultation to health care providers (41%). Other options are self-care (36%),consultation to public health care centre (16%), and consultation to private health care (5%).Among the socio-demographic and economic characteristics, marital status is the only factorthat significantly correlated with health seeking behavior. Based on the results it can berecommended that programs for improving health behavior should consider self-care, includingno medication and self medication with modern and herbal/traditional medicines. The role offamily members (e.g. spouse) should also be considered as an important factor of health relatedbehavior. Keywords : Health seeking behavior

Abstract

Abstract: Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection has increased significantly in recentyears. The virus continues to spread in all the countries. There are some strategies and programsto control HIV infection by activities carried out individually or groups. HIV testing technologiesare needed for use in diagnostic testing. Data from diagnostic testing may be used as a source ofsurveillance information. Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) and ELISA with various reagents are thecurrent diagnostic testing procedures. It is important to select reagents to get the good results. Keywords : HIV, testing, diagnostic
