Abstract

Pancasila is basic for the life of the nation and society in Indonesia. The Church as an element in the Indonesian society has a specific contribution in this civic life. This contribution could not be separated from “new relationship” between the elements of society-state-market. This new relationship is coloured by the dynamic of societal life after 1998, the new cultural bond, problems of poverty, environment damage and ongoing development. The Church’s contribution could be enlightement in various levels of societal life, such as, guide for social conduct, network creation, development that respons the people’s need, development of the elements of society that is characterized by multiculturalism to achieve a just, prosper, and peaceful society.

Abstract

Doktrin Gereja tentang Trinitas (Allah Tritunggal Yang Mahakudus) sudah mencapai keutuhannya pada millenium pertama, terutama dalam tujuh empat Konsili Ekumenis yang pertama. Pada millenium kedua dengan demikian tidak ada kebaruan berkenaan dengan doktrin tersebut. Kalau pun hendak disebutkan tentang kebaruan, maka hal itu terdapat dalam cara sejumlah tokoh melihat, membaca, dan memaknai doktrin tentang Trinitas. Jika di sana-sini ada ikhtiar nyata untuk melihat, membaca, dan memaknai secara baru itu pun senantiasa sah dan valid, terutama karena zaman terus berubah. Persoalan pastoral yang muncul adalah bagaimana orang-orang pada zaman modern ini memahami dan memaknai doktrin terpenting Gereja tersebut? Konsili Vatikan II dipandang sebagai tonggak sejarah yang menjadi pedoman arah pembaruan dalam hidup Gereja di dalam dunia. Sejumlah pemikir Katolik, seperti Balthasar, de Lubac, Rahner, Metz, Boff telah berjasa mengartikulasikan kebutuhan Gereja yang mengimani Trinitas. Bagaimana pengejawantahan iman akan Trinitas itu tidak tinggal dalam ilmu spekulatif yang terkurung dalam tembok dan perpustakaan akademik. Konsep trinitaris yang bersifat perichoresis, yang dipopulerkan kembali oleh Boff didaratkan, sehingga mewujud dalam sikap solidaritas, kepedulian, dan keterlibatan. Praktis, sikap itulah yang disebut dengan kasih itu sendiri. Sifat itu terwujud terutama dalam spirit persekutuan (koinonia).

Abstract

Prophecy and liturgy is not a common topic to talk. In general, prophecy is often confronted to liturgy, as many shown in the Old Testament where lots of prophets criticized the Jewish that were strongly hold their devotion and worship to God, but surprisingly their life was much far away from justice and truth. In the context of church life nowadays, a topic about prophecy and liturgy may be focused on the discussion related to prophetic liturgy. Is it possible that liturgy has a characteristic of prophetic? This writing is a research study to find the meaning and possibilities of prophetic liturgy. Throughout qualitative study and liturgy significance intensifying as the unity with God, we could analyze and explore the deepest relationship between liturgy and prophecy. By deepening a prophet’s role and how a prophet catch God’s will, this writing offers three dimensions of prophetic liturgy. The prophetic meaning and characteristic of the liturgy is demanded by the very nature of the liturgy itself.

Abstract

Adolfo Nicolás, former superior general of the Society of Jesus, presented his elaboration on Ignatian leadership before the superiors and the directors of works in Valladolid, Spain in May 6, 2013. In his narrative style he focused on three characters of Ignatian leadership: spiritual, apostolic and heroic. It is spiritual, because Ignatian leadership works on the base of discernment both personal and communal. It is apostolic because the integrity of Ignatian leadership consists in its function to serve. Service is the final and most basic criteria to evaluate Ignatian leardeship. With regard to the third character Adolfo Nicolás elaborated heroic leadership reffering to Ignatian spirit of magis, choosing and doing more for the service and glory of God as well as for the common good of people. Heeding a tendency of being resistant to criticism from within the Church and without, he pointed to a habit of reflection as a crucial point in Ignatian leadership. It is indeed a prayerful aspect of leadership that protects leadership from becoming a mere management of power. He also mentioned preferential option for the poor as one constitutive point in the Jesuit life that should mark an Ignatian leadership.

Abstract

Over the past decade, fundamentalism, conservatism, radicalism, extremism and terrorism have become the subject of a wide range of academic research. Against this backdrop, this article offers an epistemological analysis of fundamentalism that has rarely been examined. To complement the analysis, this article also looks as the ways in which information and communication technologies influence the patterns of contemporary terrorism. The author then discusses two experimental paths to respond to the challenges and problems raised by the rising tide of intolerance. Firstly, it is necessary to develop an integrated model of education, in which intellectual sharpness and moral sensitivity are complemented by emotional literacy. Secondly, it is possible to deconstruct absolutism in fundamentalist theology before countering with civic concepts. The first path requires a multidisciplinary approach which involves psychology, philosophical anthropology, theology and other sciences so as to unravel the ontology of emotion. The second path entails the openness of theologians towards deconstruction.

Abstract

In this article I explore the notion of "domestic church" as identity for the christian families. One important character of christian family is found here, i. e. counter-culture as way of being in the society. In our present society which is marked by consumerism, how could christian families unfold and develop their identity as "domestic church"? This article tries to answer this question by proposing some practices that can be considered as alternative culture.

Abstract

Salvation is the prime goal of human life. Mitoni in Javanese culture is a tradition to seek for a help for mother and her child in her 7th month pregnancy to give birth safely. Catholic Church proclaims salvation for all people also through some rites. Naturally those rites offered by the Catholic Church shall have relevance to people rooted in their culture. It is important that there is an harmonious encounter between culture and those rites as well as a liturgy that reflects mutual understanding and complementarity between Christian faith and culture, especially through inculturation. That encounter seeks to find a new meaning of life enlightened by faith. In the tradition of Mitoni this shall occur through its ritual of siraman and liturgy that accompanies. New meaning points to an experience of salvation in different form and content rooted in a culture. How far an inculturation could help facilitate?

Abstract

A man is created as image of God (Imago Dei) so he has beauty as attribute of God. For his sin and weakness, beauty is polluted, he is fell into vulnerable and superficial. He is far from his dignity especially from image of God. The way to make his beauty come back is a repentance. A man keeps repenting in process in order to be united with God, the source of beauty. Repentance is not easy because a man sometime is trapped into artificial beauty and satisfied in appearance. The way to come back on an eternal beauty is difficult. A man just does not give a beauty of God but he needs to find a way to be united with God so he goes forward to  An eternal beauty.

Abstract

The discussion on the relationship between the real and the rational has been slanting the history of philosophy since the time of classical Greece to contemporary times. This article discusses Thomas Aquinas’ critical analytical thinking about the theme above. The aim of the reach of the research is to find out the thought of Thomas Aquinas ‘ synthesis of themes such as the enlightenment for enthusiasts philosophical thinking. Aquinas agreed with Plato’s position stating that the real world to participate world of ideas. According to Aquinas’ point of view, Plato and Aristotle are both correct and wrong. Yet, Thomas against Plato’s statement which said that concrete life separate from forma. In a confrontation with the thought of Aristotle, Thomas agreed that forma tied to the material. But he rejected Aristotle’s said that the forma has no relation to life eternal. Aquinas was a moderate realist who accepts the existence of a universal. The universal exists in the human mind, also in any content and at the same time there is transcendent in the mind of God.

Abstract

Eucharist is the center of the Orthodox Church. The churchexists because of and in the celebration of the Eucharist. Wherever the Eucharist is, there is the Church.In the Eucharist, the essence of the church is also revealed and celebrated. The church as embodied through the Eucharistis the image of the kingdom of God, since the Eucharist is the anticipation of the future. Through Eucharist, the church moves to its fullness of the kingdom of God. It transforms the world to be sanctified and formed according to the will ofGod. Therefore, the renewal of humanity and the transformation of our world render the logical consequences of the Eucharist and the essence of the church as the image of the kingdom of God.
