Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled ?Kalimat Imperatif dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Ponosakan? and focuses on the types, functions, similarities, and differences of imperative sentences in English and Ponosakan language. The writer arranged some questions for this research, that are: what are the types and functions, and the similarities and differences of imperative sentences in English and Ponosakan language.The data in English were collected by reading and studying as many references as possible related to this research. The data in the Ponosakan language was taken from 3 informants who know well about the Ponosakan language and used it in their daily conversations. After collecting the data, the writer identified and classified the imperative sentences in English and Ponosakan language. After that, the data were analyzed by using the contrastive analysis method. The writer contrasted the data between English and Ponosakan language to find the similarities and differences. Imperative sentences in English and Ponosakan language are devided into types and functions. The types are imperative sentences with subject, imperative sentences without subject, imperative sentences with let us, negative imperative sentences, and imperative sentences with do. The functions of imperative sentences in English and Ponosakan language are command, wish, invitation, and warning.Keywords: imperative sentences, English and Ponosakan Language, contrastive analysis.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Dewasa ini penelitian tentang kata sifat [na] yaitu samazamana dan iroirona nampaknya belum pernah dilakukan. Untuk itulah makalah ini bertujuan untuk membahas tentang pengertian, dan pembagian pemakaiannya dalam kalimat bahasa Jepang. Metode pengumpulan data, yaitu dengan cara mengumpulkan contoh kalimat yang ada dalam buku teks, kemudian dianalisis berdasarkan pendapat para ahli linguistik,  selanjutnya, dalam menuliskan laporan, penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif. Hasil analisis, iro-iro menunjuk pada jumlah yang banyak, sementara jika menunjuk pada penegasan perbedaan satu persatu digunakan samazamada. misalkan dalam satu toko khusus, seperti toko yang hanya menjual komik, karena jumlah komik di tokoh tersebut lebih banyak dari tokoh buku umumnya, ketika menegaskan pada banyaknya komik tersebut digunakan ?iro-iro?. Disisi lain, misalkan di pusat kota terdapat suatu toko buku terbesar, dan tersedia segala genre, maka dalam menegaskan banyaknya jenis atau genre buku tersebut digunakan kata ?samazamana?. Akhirnya, sebagai penulis berharap semoga hasil penelitian ini sedikitnya dapat bermanfaat bagi pendidikan bahasa Jepang

Abstract

ABSTRACT               This research entitled "Deiksis dalam film God’s Not Dead Karya Harold Cronk"The purpose of this study is to identify and classify the types of deixis and analyze the use of deixis in the film God’s Not Dead by Harold Cronk. The method used in this research is descriptive method. The data used in this study were taken from sentences in the film God’s Not Dead. Data analysis uses Levinson's theory.The results of this study indicate that there are 5 types of deixis in film God’s Not Dead, those are person  deixis (first person: I, I'm, mine, me, we, second person: You, your, yourself and third person: They, them, he, she's, his, everyone). Place deixis: World, Podium, Classroom, Pool, Roman Colosseum, La Rive Gauche, Park, Class, In front of a room, Dakar, Zurich, Zurich, Frankfurt, Frankfurt and Carter International. Time deixis: Next Friday, 3 sessions, 20 minutes, Some 13.7 billions years ago, 2500 years, Next week’s, Tomorrow, 2000 years ago, Year, One day and All the time. Discourse deixis : That, This, Those, It's. Social deixis: Prosecutor, Defense attorney, Jury, My friend, Ladies, Gentleman, Brave young freshman, My father, Honey, Meciful Father, Silly boy, Minority, Freshman. While the analysis related to the use of deixis in the film Gods Not Dead found the use of gestural deixis and symbolic deixis. Abstract

ABSTRACTThis skripsi entitled ?Code Mixing in the Lyrics of Saykoji?s Songs: Sociolinguistic Analysis?. The aim of this research is to identify, analyze and describe the code mixing appeared in the lyrics of Saykoji?s songs. The theory that are used in this research is by Muysken (2000) and this research uses a descriptive method. The data was taken from Saykoji?s songs. The result of this research shows that there are three processes of code mixing in the lyrics of Saykoji?s songs through its insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization.  Key Words: Sociolinguistic, Code Mixing, Internet, Saykoji?s Songs

Abstract

ABSTRACTS               This study is an attempt to identify and to analyze the Wedding myths in Tombulu and England based on Barthes concept from the point of view of semiotics. This is attended to contrast the wedding forms of both tradition in the case of England and Tombulu. The aspect of this research is related to the sign system as proposed by Barthes. They are denotative and connotative. The term of signified, signifier and sign means something which is conventional and accepted by certain sign, related to what the myths. The England’s data have been collected from several book and websites, whereas the Tombulu have been taken directly from wedding event and by interviewing the informants from the Village of Wailan in District of Tomohon in regency of Minahasa. The results of research show that the wedding myths of both have a similarities in the aim of wedding function. The differences of both a myths are follows as convention wedding Myths event in England culture and the convention wedding myths in Tombulu culture. The writer hopes that this society will help student in understanding the system of wedding myths in England and Tombulu.        Keyword : Myths, Wedding, Tombulu, Britain, Contrastive Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACTWhite Teeth is a 2000 novel by the British author Zadie Smith. It focuses on the later lives of two wartime friends the Bangladeshi Samad Iqbal and the Englishman Archie Jones and their families in London.This research Entitled”Nilai-nilai pertemanan yang dicerminkan dalam Novel White Teeth Karya Zadie Smith” aims to find the values of friendship that exist in the novel through the nature of some of the characters in the novel. this research is expected to be useful for readers in order to understanding the meaning of friendship in life.Through the Friendship Theories by James O.Grunebaum and characterby Robert Stanton, the data were collected by emphasizing on the process and the factors that affected the characters in friendship in the story. In analyzing the data, the writer used the descriptive method with extrinsic and intrinsic approach.The results show that the friendship values of the author are determines the values of friendship and also the value of friendship shown in the characterization of Zadie Smith's White Teeth novel which is illustrated by two main characters, Archie Jones and Samad Iqbal, including the Value of Understanding, Trust, Loyalty and Cooperation as stated above has an influence on their lives and their survival after World War II.Keyword: Friendship Values, Characters, Zadie Smith, White Teeth

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “Kata-Kata Pinjaman Bahasa Inggris dalam Bahasa Indonesia pada Koran Harian Komentar Manado”.The objectives of this research are to find out the kinds and the changes of the meanings of English loan words in Indonesian language. In analyzing the data, the writer uses Haugen’s theory to find out the types and Baugh’s theory to get the changes of the meanings.The result of research shows are three kinds of loan word. Those are loan word without phonemic substitution, loan word with partial phonemic substitution, loan word with complete phonemic substitution and theres three kinds of the changes of meaning such as extention and narrowing, but regeneration and degeneration process are not found in those loan words.It is excpected that the study will help student and readers in learning of sociolinguistic especially loanwords.  Keywords: Loan Words, Change of Meaning, Socioliguistic, Komentar Manado Newspaper

Abstract

                                             ABSTRACTThis study aims to identify and describe (1) the main character in Oey Kim Tiang's San Pek Eng Tay novel and (2) moral message which author would like to highlight through the San Pek Eng Tay. descriptive analytic method is used in this research. In this method, the researcher divides the research in to two stages, analyzing the psychological approach of the main character Eng Tay based on thr character theory according to Hippocrates and Galenus. Secondly, analyzing the moral message based on the attitude, behavior, and moral order according to Sugiarti (2018) of this novel. Descriptive method is employed in this research which is to describe everything as it is (Keraf, 1981 in Breyvi). In this research, the researcher identifies and analyzes the main character in the adaptation novel of San Pek Eng Tay. The data collection is done through involving  all dialogues of the main character (Population) to determine the character of every main character roles which are considered in accordance with the study and theory used with the stages of identify, classify, and then followed by description based on the aim of this study found that through the literary psychology approach illustrated the character of the main character which is strong, full of struggle, namely fighting for their right and obligation. In other words, the main character is persistent. The moral message in San Pek Eng tay is that in walking through life, which is fighting for something good, it must continue to be fought with persistence. This is showed through the role of Ciok Eng tay with her resilience in fighting thr rights and obligation as a woman; hence the Indonesian proverb of “Effort will not betray results” is answered thus, do not give up easily. Keywords: Main Character Character, Moral Message and Novel

Abstract

ABSTRACT Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was one of England prose writer in the genre of detective fiction. His fiction “consulting detective”, Sherlock Holmes, was still famous around the globe until today. He wrote the total of 60 cases of Sherlock‟s adventures. His works mainly published in Victorian era. The research entitled “Nilai-Nilai Moral Dalam Tiga Cerita Pendek Karya Sir Arthur Conan Doyle” aims to identify, classify and analyze the moral values through the character‟s dialogues and narrator‟s narratives and the relevance of those moral values with the Victorian era morality.  The data had been collected by focusing on the character‟s dialogues and narrator‟s narratives as the elements of prose which reveal the moral values within the three short stories entitled A Scandal in Bohemia, A Case of Identity and The Five Orange Pips. In order to analyze the moral values within the three short stories, the writer uses theory of function of literature by Wellek and Warren (1949), which they derived from Horace‟s Dulce et Utile about the purposes of literature which are to educate and entertain the readers and to analyze the relevance, the writer uses the theory of literature and sociology also by Wellek and Warren (1956) about how a literary work should be able to represent the reality of life. The writer finds that there are three moral values contained in those three short stories, which are, mutual assistance, concern, and giving respect to others and as for the relevance, the writer finds that Victorian era people has six values and there are two relevance between the moral values found in the three short stories and those six values, which are the relevance between mutual assistance and concern with a sense of duty and responsible towards the less well of and between respect and how the people of Victorian era give respect to their others.  Keywords: Moral Values, Victorian Era, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled “Kesalahan Gramatikal dalam Abstrak Skripsi dari lulusan Fakultas Sastra” is an attempt to identify and analyze the kinds of errors in English made by graduates of the Faculty of Letters from the abstracts of their skripsi. The data were taken from the abstracts of the English graduates’ skripsi by visiting the library of Faculty of Letters Sam Ratulangi University. Ten abstracts were randomly selected from each publication year of 2006, 2007 and 2008 and used as the sample of this research. Elli’s theory was used to explain how to analyze the grammatical errors made by these English Departmen graduates of the Faculty of Letters. The results of this research show that there are three kinds of errors made by students; omission (7 forms: plural –s, to be, article, suffix –ly, apostrophe s(‘s), suffix –ing, coordinating conjuction and) misinformation (5 forms: apostrophe ('), verb ending –ed, to be, Other, Direct and Indirect speech) misordering (2 forms: to be, subject-predicate) This research concludes there are still some errors contained in the abstract, in which the error of misinformation is the most error made by the graduates. This research contributes to the study of linguistics particularly in identifying errors that are commonly made by Indonesian learners of English.   Keyword: Grammatical errors, error analysis, omission, misinformation, misordering
