Abstract

ABSTRACTThis Skripsi is entitled Cerminan Feminisme dalam novel The Best of Me karya Nicholas Sparks. The objectives of this research were to identify, analyze and describe the feminism as well as to analyze how women fought the struggle with women power in The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks. The writer based her research on the theory of Betty Friedan (1963). According to Friedan, there are five concepts of feminism that consist of The Suburban Women, The American Women, The Educated Women, The Happy Women, and New Women. In conducting this study, the writer used intrinsic and extrinsic approaches, and qualitative analysis in which the process consists of describing, analyzing, and interpreting process. Intrinsic element was used to analyze and identify the characters, and the extrinsic element was used to analyze and describe the types of feminism. These approaches were applied in order to get the appropriate analysis and to answer the problems. The results of this research were the description of events to know Amanda’s characters, the woman who struggled and fought with her power based on the five concepts of feminism by Betty Friedan (1963). Keyword: Feminism, Character

Abstract

ABSTRACT            This study is an attempt to describe and analyze the English and Tontemboan language specifying on the process of reduplication and the contrast of both languages to find the similarities and differences interms of forms analyzing. The English data have been collected from several English books, dictionary, thesis, related theories from library, internet, whereas the Tontemboan data are collected from informants and internet. The descriptive method is used to describe and analyze the reduplication of both language by using theory of Jensen (1990:68), Ramlan (2009:63), Keraf (1987:120), Quirk and Greenbaum (1973). After describing the process of reduplication of English and Tontemboan language, the writer makes a contrastive analysis to finding out the similarities and differences of both language by using Lado’s theory.  Theoritically this investigation is going to give a contribution in morphological analysis especially on reduplication, for development of  linguistics at the faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University. The result of this investigation shows that English has full reduplication with phonemic variation. Whereas Tontemboan language has a full reduplication, partial reduplication, and reduplication with affixation. Keywords : Reduplication, English and Tontemboan Language, Contrastive Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACTSThis skripsi entitled Analysis Characters in the novel The Stars Shine Down by Sidney Sheldon is written to achieve the title of bachelor Degree, there are two main problems to be analyzed, those are “How the characters of the figures in the novel The Strars Shine Down, and what kind’s of figures exist in the novel The Stars Shine Down by Sidney Sheldon. The purpose of this research are to identify the protagonist and antagonist characters found in the novel and analyzed the characters of protagonist and antagonist in the novel The Stars Shine Down by using Robert (1983) theory. For analyzing the data the writer used descriptive method and intrinsic approach. The result of this research show that there are some human characters found in the novel such as introvert, willing, sacrifice, perfectionist, evil, kindness, good relation and wisdom. The characters in this novel can be categorized into protagonist and antagonist characters. Lara Cameron, Howard Keller, Charles Cohn can be categorized as protagonist, characters where James Cameroon, Sean Mac Allister and Paul Martin are as antagonist characters.                                                                                                     Keywords: Characters, Protagonist and Antagonist, Characterization, Novel, The Stars Shine Down.

Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research entitled “Deiksis dalam film Beauty and The Beast by Jeanne-Marie Leprince De Beaumont”. Is written to identify, classify and analyze the types and how deixis used in the film Beauty and The Beast by Jeanne-Marie Leprince De Beaumont. The method that used in this research is the descriptive method, and the data taken from film Beauty and The Beast by identify and classifying deixis according to their types and usage . The data have been analyzed using the theory of Levinson. The types of deixis that found in the film Beauty and The Beast by Jeanne-Marie Leprince De Beaumont  are person deixis (first person,second person and third person), place deixis, time deixis, discourse deixis and sosial deixis and the usage of deixis that is gestural and symbolic. Theoretically, this research is intended to add to the research of linguistic research, especially in the field of pragmatics about deixis. Practically, it is expected to be a comparative material for other researchers who will analyze the same thing in linguistic field, and can provide information to increase reader’s knowledge on linguistic especially deixis.__________________Keywords: Deixis, Pragmatics, Film:Beauty and The Beast.

Abstract

ABSTRACT            This research is an attempt to discover the correlation of English language acquisition and the audio-visual media usage on kindergarten students.  The objectives of this research are to identify wheter the audio-viusal media usage can help the expansion of children English language acquisition and to analyze the factors that can affect the success and failure of the audio-visual usage in children English language acquisition. This study is based on the five principlas for creating effective second language learning environment from Erben, Ban and Castaneda (2009) and second language acquisition theory from Krashen (1985).The quailitative approach is applied in this study and the writer uses Random Sampling technique in choosing the participants. The data collection techniques were observation, documentation, interviews, Likert Scale as the field notes and quitionare. Pre-test and post-test also used to verify the original achievement from the participant and as the instrument to help analyzing the data. The result of this research shows that most participants had shown some progress in English language acquisition trough the audio-visual usage in number 54% on the pre-test and 86.25% on the post-test This research also discovered there are 4 positive factors and 5 negative factors which can affect the success of the audio-visual usage in children English language acquisition.         Keywords: English language, Acquisition, Audio-Visual Media, Correlation, Children

Abstract

                                         ABSTRACTThe title of this research is “Analisis Pemikiran Feminisme Maya Angelou Seperti Tercermin dalam Puisi Still I Rise, Phenomenal Woman, dan Equality” which is aimed to discover the black feminist thought in three poems by Maya Angelou through the kinds of figurative language and imagery. This research uses descriptive method in analyzing the data with two steps. The first step is identifying figurative language and imagery in each poems. The second step is analyzing how black feminist thought which is reflected in Maya Angelou’s poems through figurative language and imagery. This research focuses on the analysis of figurative language, the kinds of imagery, and black feminism in Maya Angelou’s poems. The writer uses the theory from Perrine (1969) to analyze the figurative language and imagery in the poems. The writer also uses the theory of black feminism from Collins (2000) to analyze how black feminist thought reflected in Maya Angelou’s poems through figurative language and imagery. The results of this study show that in her poems, Angelou uses some figurative language and imagery; there are simile, hyperbole, metaphor, personification, irony, symbol, visual imagery, auditory imagery, and kinesthetic imagery. Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research entitled “Two-Word Verbs in the film Mockingjay part I and II by Francis Lawrence. This research focuse on types and meaning of  Two-word verbs by the utterance of the characters in the film mockingjay part I and II by Francis Lawrence. Two-word verbs is a verb that made up of main verb together with on verb or preposition or both. The research questions should be answered are what types of two-word verbs found in this film and what are the meaning of two-word verbs. The objective of the research  are to identify and classify the types of two-word verbs and analyze the meaning of two-word verbs in the film. This research used Coghiil (2003) and Walker (1989) theory and in collection data the writer paid attention to the utterance of the characters. The data analyzed descriptively result showed that the forms of two-word verbs found in the Hunger Games Mockingjay films part I and II by Francis Lawrence are categorized into three forms, namely transitive separable, transitive inseparable, and intransitive. The meaning of the two word verbs contained in the data the meanings of two words that are the same as the original meaning also has a meaning that is far different from the original meaning.      Keywords : Two-word verbs, Transitive and Intrasitive

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research aims to identify, classify, and analyze the idioms based on their forms and meanings. The descriptive method is used in this research, and the data have been taken from a Calum Scotts song lyrics and analyzed based on the theory of Boatner and Gates. The result of this research shows there are many in various idiom?s forms. Found in the lyricsthose are idioms that classified informs, lexemic idioms, which connects of four classes they are verbal idioms,nominal idioms, adjective idioms, and adverb idioms, phrases idioms, proverb and the writer didn?t find frozen form idiom in this song.This research can provide knowledge about the meaning of idioms in semantic studies, especially for readers, and can help students of the Faculty of Humanities, especially students majoring in English literature to examine idioms using different objects, also, this research can be used as a reference for further research. Key words Idiom Form and Meaning, semantics Analysis, The song lyrics of  Calum scott.
