Abstract

ABSTRACT The title of this study is ‘An Analysis of Using Profanity Words in the Movie American Pie 7 Book of Love’. This research is an attempt to identify, describe and analyze profanity words by using theory of Pattridge (1984). In collecting the data, the writer pays close attention to use of profanity words in the film. The words of profanity are collected by watching the whole movie, and then analyzed  them in terms of their forms and pattern to find out the meaning of using profanity words in every conversation on the movie American Pie 7 Book of Love. The result of this research shows that profanity words are usually used to express their feeling. Profanity words are not only used at the bad situation like angry, but also in enjoying time to express happiness.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aimed to describe the meaning and forms of code switching and code mixing contained in “Hitam Putih” talkshow, August 2015 edition. The method used in this research is description method. Data analysis used in this research is listening to video talk downloaded through from youtube, researcher liste repeatedly until finding the code switching and code mixing in the conversation with the hosts and guest stars cohost in various themes raised, researcher then write in a notebook and separate code switching from code mixing. From the analysis conducted on Code sourcing and the Code mixing on “Hitam Putih” talkshow, August 2015 edition, concluded that the exernal transfer code ie rather code that occurred from Indonesian to English in the form of the insertion of words, phrases, and sentences. The form and meaning of the code switching and code mixing in the form of shaped insertion elements; (a) the word, (b) the phrase, (c) or looping reduplications word, (d) idiom or expression, and (e) affixes, such as; prefix + suffix + basic words and basic words. Speech event in the form; (a) setting and scene, (b) participants, (c) end, (d) act sequence, (e) key, (f) instrumentalities, and (g) genre.   Keywords : Code Switching, Code Mixing, Talkshow, “Hitam Putih”, Trans7.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled ‘Register Used in Beauty Pageants Page of Social Media Instagram’. It is expected to give contribution for the theoretical building of the linguistic field, particularly supports the development of subject dealing with sociolinguistics for the other studies and especially also for the beauty pageants lover as this research about the register used in beauty pageants page of media social Instagram. It is an attempt to identify and classify the register used in beauty pageants page in social media instagram and to analyze the variation of language and linguistic form of register used in beauty pageants page in social media instagram. The theories which used in this research are Martin Joos (1968) about variation of language and George Yule (2006) about linguistic form and this research applies a descriptive method. Data were taken in instagram posting from January 2016 to July 2018 posted by 21 users who have been followed by the writer. The result shows that register found in instagram are pride, winner, gown, wardrobe, top, sneakpeak, beauty class, close up battle, catwalk class, bubbling up, placed, styled, crowned, brushed, cocktail dress, stunning, beauty queen, miss, yash, sist, shay, missosology, muses, sash, backtoback, backstage, wishlist, fasttrack, grandfinal, hotpick, funfact, photoshoot, titleholder, powerhouse, firstwalk, glamshoot, fitting, photo, asst, decor, pic, represent, roat to, opnum, MUA, PL, MGIO, BWAP, QNA, BTS, MUO, MS, RU, natcos and TBA. Variation of language that used in register word in instagram are frozen, formal, consultative, casual and intimate, while linguistic form of register found in Instagram are coinage, borrowing, compounding, blending, clipping, backformation, conversion and acronyms. Abstract

This skripsi entitled Substitution in the short story “The Garden Party” by Katherine Mansfield: Syntactical Analysis. One of the ways to avoid redundant repetition in English is by using the pattern of substitution. It can also help the reader to understand the text correctly. The aims of this research are to identify, classify, and describe the kinds of substitute or pro-form in the short story “The Garden Party”. In classifying and analyzing the data, the writer uses Aarts and Aarts’ theory (1982). This research uses descriptive method. The results of this research show that there are four kinds of substitution in short story “The Garden Party” by Katherine Mansfield namely pro-forms to replace a noun phrase, pro-forms to replace a verb phrase, pro-forms to replace a clause and pro-forms to replace adverbial of time and place.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Penulisan ini menngambil topik tentang Sejarah Perkembangan Gereja Masehi Advent Hari Ketujuh (GMAHK) Di Desa Ambia Kecamatan Essang Selatan 1967-2016. Dalam penulisan ini menggunakan metode sejarah yang terdiri dari empat tahapan yaitu heuristik, kritik analisis, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Selain menggunakan metode sejarah, penulisan ini juga menggunakan landasan konsep sebagai kekuatan penulis sehingga dapat menjawab dengan detel sesuai dengan masalah yang dianggkat.  Karya ilmiah ini berisi tentang sejarah perkembangan Gereja Masehi Advent Hari Ketujuh dimulai dari tahun 1967-2016. Menceritakan awal masuknya Advent di desa Ambia dan perkembangan Jemat Ambia.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Metaphor is one of the figurative languages that takes two different things by identifying one with another. By using metaphor, it helpsspeakers or writers to give a clear description through comparison or contrast. The writer realizes that music is the attribute of sound in every background of human. To investigate the form and the meaning of metaphor found in the lyrics of the songs of Adele aims at the readers, especially the students of English Department to use lyrics of the songs as a media in studyingmeaning. The method which is used in this research is descriptive method. In collecting data, the writer focused on identifying the words, phrases or noun. The result shows in terms of the identified metaphors, the writer found that the lyrics of the songs can be categorized as metaphor  nominative subjective, metaphor nominative objective, metaphor predicative and metaphor sentence. The parts of sentences identified as metaphors are analyzed based on Lakoff istheory about tenor and source. Tenor refers to the underlying idea or principal subject of metaphor while source conveys the underlying; the borrowed idea, or the thing that has been resembled. The result of this study shows that the metaphor contains a certain meaning based on the context and each of them refers to a certain object of tenor and source.   Key words: metaphoric meaning, target and source, semantic analyze

Abstract

ABSTRACT This skripsi is entitled "The Personal Pronoun of English and Klabra Language; “A Contrastive Analysis”. This study has the objective to identify, categorize and analyze the personal pronoun of English and Klabra language based on form, function and meaning. In addition to identifying and classifying the person pronouns of language, the study also aims to compare or contrast the similarities and differences between English and more particularly  personal pronouns of Klabra language which are based on the theory of Marcella Frank (1972:29).   There are two theories on personal pronouns used in this research, namely by Frank (1972: 29) and Bloomfield (1933). The English data were collected from English textbooks and some linguistic books, while the data about Klabra language were obtained from informants through telephone communications.   English is a member of the family of Germanic languages, derived directly from the Indo-European, whereas Klabra language is Austronesian language family. From the results of this study, it is found that the pronoun in English and Klabra language can be devided into the first personal pronoun, second and third. There are similarities and differences in the personal pronoun of English and Klabra language. There are several similarities in both languages, one of them is in the function as subject and object, and the two languages ​​have equal placement in the sentence that is before the verb and after the noun. There are many differences in both languages, one of them is English has one form of the second personal pronoun called you both singular and plular, whereas Klabra language has two forms, they are nin for the singular second personal pronoun and nan for the plural second personal pronoun. Abstract

 ABSTRACTThis research is entitled “Euphemism in English and Tontemboan Language: A Contrastive Analysis”. The objectives of this research are to identify and classify the forms of euphemism and to analyze and describe the differences of euphemism in English and Tontemboan language. This research uses a descriptive method. There are three steps to finish this research, those are preparation, data collection, and to analyze and describe the data that using the theory of Fromkin (1997: 286), Wardhaugh (1986: 231), and Allan and Burridge (1991: 14), and were contrasted to find the differences using Lado’s theory. The result of this research shows that form of euphemism in Tontemboan language more shows a stress in a word or sentence than form of euphemism in English. There are 79 euphemisms found in English and 48 euphemisms in Tontemboan language. The euphemism in English were classified into 23 forms those are: sex, the part of human body, natural function of body, religion, dying, unemployment, criminality, figurative expression, flippancy, remodelling, circumlocution, clipping, acronym, abbreviation, omission, one for one substitution, general for specific, part for whole euphemism, hyperbole, understatement, use of technical terms of jargon, use of general or colloquial terms, and methapor. In Tontemboan language, there are some forms of euphemism that were not found those are: flippancy, remodelling, circumlocution, acronym, abbreviation, part for whole euphemism, use of technical terms or jargon. In this research, especially in Tontemboan language there is one form of euphemism that the writer found that was not included in three concepts used, namely euphemism related to supernatural. Keywords: Euphemism, English and Tontemboan Language, Contrastive Analysis

Abstract

ABSTRACT      This study entitled “The Reduced Clauses in the Journal of English Teaching Forum volume 45 No. 1 Year 2007 (A Syntactic Analysis)”. The aim of this study is an attempt to identifying, classifying, and analyzing the function of reduced clause found in the journal. The data were taken from the journal based on the journal of English Teaching Forum.The method used in this study is descriptive method. There are three steps to finish this study, first the writer read some concepts related to the title about reduced clause and also browsed resources from internet. The second step is data collection. In collecting the data the writer read journal of English Teaching Forum in order to identify to all the reduced clauses in sentence. The results of this research show that the types of reduced clause found in this journal are reduced  adjective clause, reduced adverb clause and relative clauses. There are 39 of reduced clauses, which consist of 21 data of reduced adjective clauses, 17 data of reduced adverb clauses and 20 data of relative clauses. The study shows that reduced clauses are frequently used in journal specially in English Teaching Forum.Key Words: Reduced Clauses, Journal of English Teaching Forum, Syntactic Analysis.

Abstract

ABSTRAK  Karya ilmiah ini mengulas tentang sejarah perkembangan paroki/jemaat gereja di pusat kota Amurang. Menjelaskan tentang latar belakang penginjilan di daerah Minahasa pada umumnya, daerah Minahasa Selatan, serta penginjilan di kota Amurang pada khususnya. Berdirinya gereja di Amurang terjadi pada pertengahan abad XIX. Diawali dengan penjelasan mengenai terbentuknya kota Amurang dan desa Uwuran, masuknya agama Kristen di Minahasa, dan berdirinya Gereja Masehi Injili di Minahasa. Berikutnya penjelasan mengenai proses perkembangan jemaat Amurang menuju ke jemaat Uwuran. Perkembangan jemaat dimulai pada tahun 1982 ketika nama Jemaat GMIM Sentrum Amurang ditambah-ganti menjadi Jemaat GMIM Syalom Sentrum Amurang. Sepanjang tahun 1982 – 2017 sudah ada 10 ketua Jemaat yang melayani jemaat ini. Kata kunci: sejarah, perkembangan, Kristen, jemaat, gereja, GMIM, Amurang
