Abstract

ABSTRACT   This research entitled “Penggunaan Bahasa dalam Mengekspresikan Emosi Kegembiraan dalam Film Twilight Saga Oleh Stephenie Meyer”. Emotion associated with the feeling experienced by someone. Emotion emerged in a person who often disclosed with various expressions such as sad, happiness, angry, and love. Emotion that is given to certain feelings affect how to act. This is caused by the emotion which is the dominant factor affecting a person’s act. Emotions are essentially a form of communication one. When someone in emotional, it means he is trying to convey the message to others. Based on this background, the writer is able to formulate the problem are what kind of gestures and languages people used in expressing happiness in the film Twilight Saga. The objectives of this research are to identify, analyze, and describe the gestures and languages used when people express happiness in the film Twilight Saga. This research was taken in the film Twilight Saga which consists in five part, they are Twilight,New moon,Eclipse, BreakingDawn Part 1, and Breaking Dawn Part 2. The researcher uses qualitative approach in order to find out the gestures and languages when people used in express their happiness. There are three steps that the writer do, they are preparation, collecting data, and analyzing data. The results of this research show that there are some expressions that could be found in expressing the feeling of happiness followed by the posture and gesture support Digagunarsa et al., theory about emosional expression.   Keyword: Language, Happiness, Posture, Gesture, Twilight Saga

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims at investigating a woman emancipation in a novel entitled Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, an English novel which was written in Victorian period in nineteenth century. This research focuses on situation of the women in a society and the action of the women in reality. The writer used a feminism theory from Betty Friedan in The Feminine Mystique.The method employed in this research is descriptive method. The novel was analysed intrinsically through the female character, including the main character and extrinsically through the portrait of English women in Victorian era. The results of this research shows that the woman emancipation is reflected through the female characters in the novel such as Jane Eyre, Bertha Mason and Hellen Burn. They are identified as women who have capability in making solution for the problems in society. Therefore, Jane Eyre who represents the woman in the novel gets her rights and appears as an independent women.Keywords: Novel, Woman Emancipation, Feminism, Victorian Era, Jane Eyre.

Abstract

ABSTRACT   This study is an attempt to find out, analyze and describethe Adverbs in the novel “HOOK“ by Walter Van Tilburg Clark’s. The data were analyzed based on the theories of Quirk at el (1985) and Frank (1972). The method used in this research was descriptive method. The data of adverbs were taken from the sentences in thenovel “ HOOK “ by Walter Van Tilburg Clark’s. The result of this study shows that that there are 3 kinds of adverbs found in the novel based on the theory of Quirk at el., (1985) namely Simple adverbs, combining adverb  and derivation adverbs. Also there are four functions of  adverb based on the theory of Frank (1972) which are adverbs that functionas verb modifier, adjective modifier , adverb modifier, and sentence modifier. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Keywords: adverbs, English, Analysis, thenovel “HOOK”

Abstract

ABSTRACT The focus of this research problem is (1) what affixes can form verbs in Pamona language ?, (2) what is the function and meaning of verb-form affix in Pamona language ?. The purpose of this research are: (1) to describe verbal forming affixes in Pamona language, (2) to identify the function and meaning of verbal-form affix in Pamona language. This research uses the method of referring, with tapping technique and technique of luctive conversation. Further analyzed and presented using referential method, and in data analysis used formal and informal method. The verbal-forming affix in Pamona is (1) the prefix {maN-}, {moN-}, {me}, {na-}, {mombe-}, {mampo-}, {mampaka-}, {te- }, {-i} with the group, {-waka} with the group, {maN - / - ka}, {na - / - ka}, and {-um-}. Abstract

ABSTRAK Dalam bahasa Jepang, pemakaian keishikimeishi (nomina yang menerangkan fungsinya secara formalitas tanpa memiliki hakekat atau arti yang sebenarnya sebagai nomina) ada banyak. Keishikimeishi tersebut yaitu  : toori, tokoro, toki, koto, uchi, tame, hazu, hou, mama, mono. Pemakaian satu keishikimeishi saja, ada banyak, dan mempunyai pengertian bermacam-macam, sehingga bagi pembelajar bahasa Jepang, itu merupakan salah satu bagian yang menyulitkan. Lebih dari pada itu pembelajar bahasa Jepang jarang meneliti  tentang keishikimeishi. Oleh sebab itu makalah ini memuat tentang salah satu keishikimeishi yakni (tokoro) dan bermaksud untuk meneliti tentang  arti, dan pembagian pemakaian tokoro tersebut dalam kalimat bahasa Jepang. Pengumpulan data dengan cara mengambil contoh kalimat yang ditulis dalam buku pelajaran, internet, selanjutnya dianalisis berdasarkan teori deskrptif. Hasil penelitian adalah sebagai berikut : bahwa arti dan penggunaan tokoro mempunyai arti yang berbeda berdasarkan variasi pola kalimat bahasa Jepang. Pengertian tersebut yaitu : menunjukkan tempat, menunjukkan posisi, menunjukkan tempat tinggal, menunjukkan bagian, menunjukkan tepat pada waktu tertentu,  menunjukkan ketika, menunjukkan  poin, serta menunjukkan  ruang lingkup. Akhir kata semoga hasil penelitian ini dapat bermanfaat bagi pendidikan bahasa Jepang.

Abstract

ABSTRACT   This skripsi is made as a requirement to obtain bachelor Degree in English in Sam Ratulangi University. This research entitled “The Cohesion and Coherence of Speech at “APEC CEO SUMMIT 2014” by Joko Widodo. It is attempt to analyze and explain the cohesion and coherence items in Joko Widodo speech. There are three steps to finish this research. First step is preparation, the writer finds the speech of Joko Widodo, she also reads some books about language, linguistics, discourse analysis, relevant theories, and  articles from internet which relevant to the topic of this study. Second step is data collection, the writer downloads the speech of Joko Widodo “APEC CEO SUMMIT 2014” from www.englishindo.com, reads the speech for several times to have deeper understanding and identifies the items according to theory of Juez  (2009). Third step is data analysis. The method used in this research is taken from Alba-Juez (2009) and supported by the theory of Halliday & Hassan (1976) and Aarts and Aarts ((1982). The theory consists of Cohesion: pronoun, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction, lexical, and Coherence: marked coherence and unmarked coherence. The result of this research shows that in cohesion there are 112 pronouns, 6 substitutions, 1 ellipsis, 6 conjunctions, 14 lexical cohesions. In this speech, there are 22 marked coherence and there is no unmarked coherence. Keywords: discourse analysis, speech, cohesion and coherence, Joko Widodo

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research is entitled “Competitive Act and Conflictive Act in the Film Hacksaw Ridge by Mel Gibson” is described based on pragmatics analyze. This study focuses on competitive and conflictive acts that used in the film Hacksaw Ridge by Mel Gibson. This research aims at identifying and describing the competitive and conflictive acts in the film Hacksaw Ridge. In collecting data, the writer elicits them through the conversation among the characters in the film. To analyze them, the writer used descriptive analysis based on Leech’s theory. Leech divided competitive and conflictive acts into eight kind which is ordering, asking, demanding, threatening, reprimanding, begging, accusing, and cursing. It is expected that study will help student and also readers in learning pragmatics especially the competitive and conflictive acts in the film.       Keywords : Speech act; illocutionary act; competitive and conflictive acts.

Abstract

Poetry is the oldest form of literary genres. It can be based on life experiences. Mystique is one life experience that can be expressed in a poem. It is important for the readers to understand how a poet uses words, how a poet puts fresh vigors and new meanings into words. Metaphor is one of the poet's ways of using words to give pleasure to the readers. Edgar Allan Poe is an American Poet who used a lot of metaphors in his mystique poems. So, the aims of this research are to analyze the uses of metaphor and to interprete the meaning of metaphor in his mystique poems. All the data were collected using literature research methods that have relations to the object of research. The writer used intrinsic approach to analyze these poems and to show the use of metaphor in Edgar's mystique poems. The result of this study shows that Edgar uses a lot of metaphor in his poems. Abstract

ABSTRACT This study is attempt to describe, clasify and analyze modal verb in The film script Ted by Seth Macfarlane , Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. The auxiliary verb modals are auxiliary words that serve as "helping verbs" to get more meaning. The effect of tense of the modals is different from verb.  The writer uses descriptive method. The data of the modals are collected from the sentences found in the script. The theory of Robert is used in this research . They are pure modals, special modals, and semi modals. Pure modals are can, could, will, would, shall, should, may, might and must. Special modals which used are be going to, have to, had better, had rather, be to, be able to, and ought to. Semi modals which used are dare and need. The writer focus to analyze about pure modals. The meaning of modals auxiliaries in The film script Ted by Seth Macfarlane , Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. The auxiliary verb modals are: Can means ability, permission, and suggestion. Could means ability, possibility, permission, suggestion, and request. May means request and possibility. Might means possibility and permission. Will means willingness, intention, and request. Would means willingness, certainty, intention , and offering. Shall means request. Should means obligation, possibility, necessity. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled Phonological Variation of Black American English in the Songs of Alicia Keys, and focuses on Alicia Keys’s fifth album, ‘The Diary of Alicia Keys’. Black American English is a unique English varieties that growing in the black Americans society, it have a different grammar and pronounce. This research is conducted by using a descriptive method. In collecting data, the first thing that the writer do is taking the lyrics from internet. Then, identifies those words that contains this variation. In analyzing data, the writer uses the theory of Rickford (1999) about phonological features of African American Vernacular English. The result of this research shows that there are some variations of African American Vernacular English in the songs of Alicia Keys, especially in the album ‘The Diary of Alicia Keys’. Such as: Reduction of word final consonants clusters, especially those ending in t and the –ed suffix pronounced as /t/, Deletion of word-final single consonant, Realization of final ng /ŋ/ as n /n/, Realization of voiceless th /θ/ as t, Realization of voiced /ð/ as d, Deletion or vocalization of l after a vowel, Deletion or vocalization of r after a vowel, Deletion of initial d and g in certain tense-aspect auxiliaries, Deletion of unstressed initial, Monophthongal pronunciation of ay, and ey, Most of the songs that sings by a black people have a different variation because their daily activities. The writer hopes that this study would give more knowledge to the readers in understanding the phonological variations of the Black American English, in the Faculty of Humanity, Sam Ratulangi University, Manado.   Keywords: The Phonological Variations, Black American English/African American Vernacular English
