Abstract

This research studies the design and development of the teaching and learning module with the assistance of interactive animation multimedia computer. The objective of this research is to address the following research questions, which are to enhance the interest and motivation of the special education learners as well as to facilitate the learners in identifying (CV+CV) syllables. The process in developing the software follows the ADDIE Model, which includes the five phases, namely “Analysis”, “Design”, “Development”, “Implementation” and “Evaluation”. The selection of topic in (CV+CV) syllables identification was made in order to help the special education learners in their reading process. The research method uses the Mayer’s Multimedia Learning Theory, which is based on Sweller’s Cognitive Load Theory (Chandler and Sweller). The research data was collected through a qualitative method and research design is a case study. The respondents of this research involve four learners selected through a sampling, who were then divided into one groups; namely Group A . The instruments of the research consist of a pre-test, a post-test and a questionnaire. The research finding shows that there is a significant increase ( 60% ) in the post-test of Group A. The learning through Interactive Animation Multimedia does not only attract the learners’ interest and enhance their motivation in learning, but also indirectly allows these special education learners to read.Keywords: ADDIE Model, Interactive Multimedia, and students with learning difficulties.Kajian ini mengenai pembangunan modul pengajaran dan pembelajaran (P&P) yang berbantukan kepada penggunaan komputer multimedia animasi interaktif. Tujuan kajian ini ialah untuk menjawab beberapa persoalan kajian iaitu, untuk meningkatkan minat dan motivasi pelajar pendidikan khas dan untuk memudahkan pelajar mengenal suku kata (KV+KV). Proses membangunkan perisian ini adalah berdasarkan kepada Model ADDIE yang mempunyai lima fasa iaitu “Analysis”, “Design”, “Development”, “Implementation” dan “Evaluation”. Pemilihan tajuk mengenal suku kata (KV+KV) adalah untuk membantu pelajar-pelajar pendidikan khas dalam proses membaca. Proses kajian ini menggunakan Teori Pembelajaran Multimedia oleh Mayer, dan teori ini juga adalah berdasarkan kepada Teori Beban Kongnitif Sweller ( Chandler & Sweller ). Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kualitatif dan reka bentuk kajian ialah kajian kes. Sampel dalam kajian ini ialah seramai 4 orang pelajar yang dipilih secara sampel bertujuan yang telah dibentuk dalam satu kumpulan iaitu Kumpulan A. Instrumen kajian yang digunakan ialah ujian pra, ujian pos dan soal selidik. Dapatan kajian telah mendapati bahawa terdapat peningkatan pencapaian dalam ujian pra dan ujian pos yang menggunakan kaedah multimedia bagi Kumpulan A iaitu sebanyak (60 %) . Pembelajaran yang menggunakan kaedah Multimedia Animasi Interaktif bukan sahaja dapat menarik minat dan memberi motivasi kepada pelajar, secara tidak langsung juga pelajar pendidikan khas ini dapat membaca.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.17977/um029v4i12017p001

Abstract

This article discusses the role of news media in communicating information about Disabled news to the public. The focus of the discussion centered issue and advocacy role of the news media conducted to understand the issues of persons with disabilities. Studies conducted using the method of analysis to systematically review the library of selected journals that conduct media exposure of persons with disabilities at the global level and so focused towards media conference in Malaysia. In this research, the data was obtained through databases ERIC, google scholar, Journal of Education, Journal of Social Sciences and Journal of Communication. A total of 30 articles were based on keywords such as disabled people, newspapers, news exposure to people with disabilities. However, researchers have obtained 13 articles that met after being filtered. The results obtained showed that the press releases are also still not open and not to report the news on disabilities. This is because there is a stigma that prevents acceptance of disabilities such as discrimination and negative attitudes towards them. Outlook negative stereotypes of people with disabilities who are strangers, the great ones, defects often appear in the media. Even now there is increasing advocacy for press media publishing news on this special group but the content or dissemination of information about them is still less show.Artikel ini membincangkan peranan media akhbar dalam menyampaikan maklumat berita tentang Orang Kurang Upaya kepada masyarakat. Fokus perbincangan ditumpukan isu dan peranan advokasi media akhbar dijalankan untuk memahami isu orang kurang upaya. Kajian yang dijalankan menggunakan kaedah analisis perpustakaan secara sistematik review terhadap jurnal-jurnal terpilih yang menjalankan kajian paparan media ke atas orang kurang upaya di peringkat global dan seterusnya difokus ke arah media akhbar di Malaysia. Dalam penyelidikan ini, data-data diperolehi melalui pengkalan data ERIC, google scholar, Jurnal Pendidikan, Jurnal Sains Sosial dan Jurnal Komunikasi. Sebanyak 30 artikel diperolehi berdasarkan kata kunci seperti orang kurang upaya, surat khabar, paparan berita terhadap OKU. Namun begitu, penyelidik telah memperoleh 13 artikel yang menepati setelah disaring. Hasil didapati menunjukkan akhbar akhbar juga masih tidak terbuka dan kurang untuk melaporkan berita tentang OKU. Ini kerana masih terdapat stigma yang menghalang penerimaan OKU seperti diskriminasi dan sikap negatif terhadap mereka. Pandangan stereotaip golongan OKU yang negatif seperti orang asing, golongan yang susah, cacat sering dipaparkan dalam media. Walaupun, kini media akhbar ada peningkatan advokasi penerbitan berita terhadap golongan istimewa ini namun kandungan atau penyebaran maklumat tentang golongan ini masih lagi kurang dipaparkan.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.17977/um029v4i12017p032

Abstract

The process of teaching and learning that is active and can attract many students to learn. Especially those with learning difficulties who require special methods for helping their learning process to make it more interesting. Therefore, this study is more focused on teaching and learning courseware ‘Let’s Reading’ methods using reading method called syllables have features that can help students with learning disabilities to learn Malay Language. The respondents comprised of six students with learning disabilities moderate levels studying in a secondary school in Kuala Lumpur. A monitoring form adaptation course from Davis et al. (2007) and (Sidek et al., 2014) with some modifications has been used as an instrument to evaluate the study. The findings were analyzed using quatitative methods. In addition, the oral test is carried out before and after the use of the software is run. The study found software has been developed according to the development ASSURE model is able to attract pupils with learning disabilities to learn Malay Language. In addition, these children also showed improvements in reading.Proses pembelajaran dan pengajaran yang aktif dan pelbagai dapat menarik minat murid untuk belajar. Terutamanya murid bermasalah pembelajaran yang memerlukan kaedah khusus bagi membantu proses pembelajaran mereka agar lebih menarik. Oleh itu, kajian ini dijalankan yang lebih tertumpu kepada pengajaran dan pembelajaran menggunakan perisian kursus ‘Jom Bacalah’ yang menggunakan kaedah membaca menggunakan kaedah sebut suku kata yang mempunyai ciri-ciri yang dapat membantu murid bermasalah pembelajaran untuk belajar Bahasa Melayu. Responden kajian terdiri daripada enam murid bermasalah pembelajaran aras sederhana yang sedang belajar di sebuah sekolah menengah di Kuala Lumpur. Satu borang pemantauan kursus adaptasi daripada kajian Davis et al. (2007) dan Sidek et al. (2014) dengan sedikit pengubahsuaian telah digunakan sebagai instrumen bagi menilai kajian ini. Selain itu, ujian lisan dijalankan sebelum dan selepas penggunaan perisian dijalankan. Dapatan kajian dianalisis menggunakan kaedah kuantitatif. Hasil kajian mendapati perisian yang telah dibangunkan dengan berpandukan kepada pembangunan model ASSURE ini mampu menarik minat murid bermasalah pembelajaran untuk belajar Bahasa Melayu. Abstract

The aims of the research is to study the level of satisfaction among the Special Education Teachers of Southeast Asia countries who attended the 4 weeks training on Co-curricular Activities for SEN Children that was conducted by SEAMEO Regional Center for Special Education (SEAMEO SEN). The aspects studied included the teachers’ satisfaction on the facilities and services provided by SEAMEO SEN, training content, training methods and the evaluation on the facilitators. The study involved 25 participants who are Special Education Teachers whom attended the 4 weeks training course. This is a survey to gain quantitative data using survey as the method of research. The data was analysed descriptively. Silver (1981) Model of Training and Maslow (1954) were used as the foundation to see the relations in the studied constructs. The findings of the research showed that the level of satisfaction of the participants towards services and facilities provided is at min = 4.48, satisfaction towards training content is min= 4.44, training method is min=4.31, quality of facilitator is min= 4.34. Overall, the findings indicated the level of satisfactory is high with overall min is = 4.40 and thus can be summarized that the Special Education Teachers are very satisfied with the training organized by SEAMEO SEN.Kajian ini dijalankan untuk mengkaji tahap kepuasan Guru Pendidikan Khas Asia Tenggara (GPKAT) terhadap program latihan Regular Course: Co-Curricular Activities for SEN Children yang dianjurkan oleh SEAMEO Regional Center for Special Education (SEAMEO SEN). Aspek yang diberi perhatian dalam kajian ini merangkumi tahap kepuasan GPKAT terhadap kemudahan dan perkhidmatan yang disediakan oleh SEAMEO SEN, isi kandungan latihan, kaedah latihan dan penilaian GPKAT terhadap kualiti fasilitator. Kajian ini melibatkan seramai 25 orang GPKAT yang menghadiri kursus 4 minggu di SEAMEO SEN. Ini adalah kajian tinjauan untuk mendapatkan data kuantitatif dengan menggunakan soal selidik sebagai instrumen kajian. Data telah dianalisis secara diskriptif. Model Latihan yang dipelopori oleh Silver (1981) telah dijadikan asas bagi mendasari kajian ini di samping Teori Hierarki Keperluan Maslow (1954) untuk melihat perkaitan dalam konstruk yang dikaji. Dapatan yang diperolehi daripada keempat-empat aspek yang dikaji adalah seperti berikut. Tahap kepuasan GPKAT terhadap aspek kemudahan dan perkhidmatan yang disediakan memperolehi nilai min=4.48 diikuti tahap kepuasan bagi isi kandungan latihan min=4.44, manakala 4.31 pula adalah min purata bagi kaedah latihan dan min bagi kualiti fasilitator adalah sebanyak 4.34. Secara keseluruhannya, dapatan ini menunjukkan tahap kepuasan GPKAT adalah tinggi dengan min purata adalah 4.40, maka dapat disimpulkan bahawa GPKAT sangat berpuas hati dengan program latihan yang telah dianjurkan oleh SEAMEO SEN.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.17977/um029v4i12017p007

Abstract

A child with intellectual disability has problems in adaptive behavior such as eating skill. The research objective was to describe: 1) the ability of the child with intellectual disability before being given intervention using backward chaining method, 2) the ability of the child with intellectual disability after being given intervention using backward chaining method, and 3) the effectiveness of backward chaining method to increase the eating skills for child with intellectual disability. The method of this study was an experimental method by using the Single Subject Research (SSR) with the A-B-A design model. The results showed that the percentage of overlap between the baseline condition-1 and the intervention condition was 0%. The calculation declared that there was increase eating skill for child with intellectual disability with backward chaining.Anak disabilitas intelektual memiliki masalah dalam perilaku adaptif seperti pada keterampilan makan. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan: 1) kemampuan anak disabilitas intelektual sebelum diberikan intervensi menggunakan backward chaining, 2) kemampuan anak disabilitas intelektual setelah diberikan intervensi menggunakan backward chaining, dan 3) keefektifan backward chaining untuk meningkatkan keterampilan makan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode eksperimen dengan menggunakan Single Subject Reseach (SSR) dengan desain A-B-A. Hasil penelitian menunjukan perolehan presentase overlap antara kondisi baseline-1 ke kondisi intervensi sebesar 0%. Perhitungan tersebut menyatakan adanya pengaruh keefektifan backward chaining sebagai intervensi terhadap peningkatan keterampilan makan sebagai target behavior.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.17977/um029v4i12017p037

Abstract

Visual Impairment is obstacle in vision function that requires a different way of learning with other normal person. Visual impairment have the tools to learn how to read and writing like braille. Reading is activity that is needed to get the information. The objective of this study is to describe the effect of sally mangold tactual perception exercise toward subject’s early reading ability that viewed from before and after intervention. The method was experiment of single subject reasecrh design with A-B-A model. The conclusion of this study was found a positive effect of Sally Mangold tactual perception exercise toward subject’s early reading ability. The positive effect was seen from the increase score subject’s early reading ability from 50% to 98%.Tunanetra merupakan hambatan fungsi pengelihatan yang membutuhkan cara belajar yang berbeda dengan orang normal lainnya. tunanetra memiliki alat untuk belajar membaca dan menulis disebut braille. Membaca adalah kegiatan yang diperlukann untuk mendapatkan informasi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan pengaruh latihan persepsi taktual Sally Mangold terhadap kemampuan membaca permulaan subyek dilihat dari sebelum dan sesudah intervensi. Metode yang digunakan adalah eksperimen dengan desain Single Subyek Resecrh dan model A-B-A. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini ditemukan pengaruh positif latihan persepsi taktual Sally Mangold terhadap kemampuan membaca permulaan subyek. Abstract

The objective of study is to describe skill of shirt wearing before and after intervention and describe effect shaping technique towards skill of shirt wearing for intellectual disability. Method used is single-subject research with A-B-A design. The subject was a child with intellectual disability Grade I of SDLB. Analysis of data used was and inter-condition. Results showed that the effect of shaping techniques towards skills of shirt wearing child with intellectual disability. The conclusion that there is effect shaping techniques toward skill of shirt wearing intellectual disability. Suggestions include provide learning approaches variety, parents expected to cooperate in developing independence of intellectual disability, require fundamental research.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan keterampilan memakai kemeja anak sebelum dan setelah diberikan intervensi dan pengaruh teknik shaping terhadap keterampilan memakai kemeja anak tunagrahita. Metode penelitian adalah eksperimen subjek tunggal dengan desain A-B-A. Subjek adalah anak tunagrahita ringan kelas 1 SDLB. Analisis data dengan menggunakan analisis dalam kondisi dan antar kondisi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya pengaruh teknik shaping terhadap keterampilan memakai kemeja anak tunagrahita. Kesimpulan penelitian adalah terdapat pengaruh antara teknik shaping terhadap keterampilan memakai kemeja anak tunagrahita. Abstract

Reading is one of the fundamental skills across all subjects. A student with low competency in reading will experience difficulties in teaching and learning. The purpose of this research is to improve reading skills among student with learning disability in one secondary school in Bangi, Selangor. This action research had employed Reading Assessment Approach and descriptive analysis in data collection. Seven students with reading problem participated in this research. However, these students were having potential to be included in either Inclusive Program or Job Transition Program. Therefore, one reading program known as KLISA Program (Language Clinic Program) was created and it has been implemented in classroom for 30 minutes during the first period every day. This 9-month program had employed phonics method and used a set of ‘Bacalah Anakku’ books and ABM Velcro in three phases. The reading assessment was conducted at the end of each phase to evaluate the students’ achievement in reading. The findings of this research proved that KLISA Program was effective for students’ improvement in reading. Hence, it is recommended that this program can be consistently implemented to overcome illiterate and reading disorder among primary and secondary school students.Kemahiran membaca adalah merentas semua matapelajaran. Kelemahan dalam kemahiran membaca akan menyebabkan kesulitan mengikuti pengajaran dan pembelajaran. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemahiran membaca di kalangan murid-murid bermasalah pembelajaran di sebuah sekolah menengah di Bangi, Selangor. Penelitian tindakan ini menggunakan pendekatan penilaian penaksiran bacaan dan analisis deskriptif untuk mengumpul data, Seramai 7 orang murid dalam sebuah kelas terlibat dalam kajian ini. Mereka terdiri dari murid bermasalah pembelajaran yang berpotensi untuk diserapkan di dalam Program Inklusif atau Transisi pekerjaan tetapi masih tidak boleh membaca. Satu program pemulihan bacaan iaitu Program KLISA (Program Klinik Bahasa) dilaksanakan selama 30 menit masa pertama sesi pengajaran setiap hari persekolahan. Pelaksanaan program ini menekankan kaedah fonik menggunakan set buku ‘Bacalah Anakku’ dan ABM Velcro serta dibuat dalam 3 gelungan yang mengambil masa 9 bulan. Penilaian bacaan dibuat setiap 3 bulan yang mewakili satu gelungan untuk melihat pencapaian murid dalam bacaan. Penilaian tersebut dibuat menggunakan satu set instrumen penilaian yang mewakili 8 tahap bacaan. Hasil penelitian membuktikan peningkatan kemahiran bacaan yang memberansangkan di kalangan murid-murid yang terlibat. Justeru itu disarankan program seumpamanya dilaksanakan secara konsisten bagi mengatasi masalah buta huruf dan tidak pandai membaca dikalangan murid-murid peringkat rendah dan menengah.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.17977/um029v4i12017p016

Abstract

Good mental health is important to meet challenges in life. In contrast, mental health problem may affect anyone at any age, and may significantly impair one’s ability to form daily activities. The aim of this study is to identify mental health state among hearing impaired secondary school students in Johor Bahru. For collecting data, a survey design was using a questionnaire. A total of 77 students with hearing disabilities were selected through purposive sampling to participate in this study. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics in the form of frequency and percentage. The findings in this study showed that peers problems are the most significant problems, followed by conduct problems, and emotional problems. These findings indicate that the need to tackle mental health problems due to the impact of poor mental health in an individual can lead to problems for the individuals themselves, their families and society.Kesihatan mental yang baik adalah penting untuk menghadapi cabaran dalam kehidupan. Sebaliknya, masalah kesihatan mental boleh menjejaskan sesiapa sahaja pada peringkat umur, dan dengan ketara boleh menjejaskan keupayaan seseorang untuk membentuk aktiviti harian. Tujuan utama kajian ini adalah untuk mengenal pasti tahap kesihatan mental murid di sekolah menengah kurang upaya pendengaran di Johor Bahru. Kajian tinjauan ini menggunakan soalselidik untuk mengumpulkan data. Seramai 77 orang murid kurang upaya pendengaran yang telah dipilih melalui persampelan bertujuan sebagai responden dalam kajian ini. Data dianalisis melalui statistik deskriptif dalam bentuk kekerapan dan peratusan. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahawa masalah rakan sebaya merupakan masalah yang paling signifikan, diikuti oleh masalah conduct, dan masalah emosi. Penemuan ini menunjukkan keperluan untuk menangani masalah kesihatan mental kerana impak kesihatan mental yang kurang memuaskan pada seseorang individu boleh mengakibatkan masalah kepada individu itu sendiri, keluarganya dan masyarakat amnya.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.17977/um029v4i12017p045

Abstract

The result of observation in some parents shows that there is no guidance used by parents in the implementation of self-study, washing hands, eating, and drinking, so that, it can inhibit parents in providing treatment for autistic children at home. To assist parents in understanding the ways of teaching for eating, drinking and hand-washing activities, the researcher develops the Activity Daily of Living Program. This research is generally aimed at developing the ‘Activity of Daily Living’ program for parents to improve the ability of children with autism. The specific objectives are: (a) Produce a product development of activity of daily living program for the parents to improve self-help ability of children with autism, (b) Describe the feasibility of product development of activity of daily living program for parents to improve autistic children’s self-help ability. This research used a development approach by adapting the development model of Borg and Gall (2007). This development process consists of 10 development steps. This research activity was conducted limited trials of six parents (as users) in Surabaya. Feasibility results according to percentage of material experts obtained 76.19%, media / design experts with 77.77% percentage, and users (parents earn 77.77%), so that, it can be categorized into good. The result of this development is activity of daily living program which is packed in A4 paper size, 150 paper thickness, art paper type and 41 pages in which there are some steps of activity accompanied by picture in doing activity sch as hand washing, eating.Hasil observasi dibeberapa orang tua menunjukkan selama ini belum ada pedoman yang digunakan oleh orang tua dalam pelaksanaan pembelajaran bina diri seperti mencuci tangan, makan, dan minum sehingga dapat menghambat orang tua dalam memberikan penanganan kepada anak autis dirumah. Untuk membantu orang tua dalam memahami cara-cara mengajarkan kegiatan makan, minum dan mencuci tangan peneliti mengembangkan program activity daily of living. Penelitian ini secara umum bertujuan mengembangkan program activity of daily living bagi orang tua untuk meningkatkan kemampuan anak autis. Tujuan khususnya, (a) menghasilkan produk pengembangan program activity of daily living bagi orang tua untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bina diri anak autis, (b) mendeskripsikan kelayakan tentang produk pengembangan program activity of daily livingbagi orang tua untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bina diri anak autis. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan pengembangan dengan mengadaptasi model pengembangan Borg and Gall (2007), Proses pengembangan ini terdiri dari 10 langkah pengembangan. Kegiatan penelitian ini dilaksanakan uji coba terbatas terhadap enam orang tua (sebagai pengguna) di Surabaya. Hasil kelayakan menurut ahli materi prosentase yang diperoleh 76,19%, ahli media/desain dengan presentase 77,77% , dan pengguna (orang tua memperoleh 77,77%) di lapangan dapat dikategorikan baik/layak. Produk yang dihasilkan dari pengembangan ini yaitu program activity of daily livingyang dikemas dengan ukuran kertas A4, tebal kertas 150, jenis kertas art paper dan jumlah halaman 41halaman yang didalamnya terdapat langkah-langkah kegiatan aktivitas yang disertai gambar dalam melakukan aktivitas seperti mencuci tangan,makan.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.17977/um029v4i12017p075
