Abstract

The purpose of this study was to measure several physical and chemical parameters of Mooat Lake waters and to assess the feasibility of water quality in Mooat Lake waters to support aquaculture.Primary data were obtained from direct sample measurements in the field (in situ) and laboratory analysis. In situ sample measurement data consisted of temperature, degree of acidity (pH), dissolved oxygen (DO), and turbidity. Sampling of water at all research stations used a modified bottle that was labeled accordingly as a water sample holder. After the water sample is taken in the field, stored in a cooler, then taken to the Laboratory of Environmental Health Engineering and Disease Control (BTKLPP) class 1 Manado and the Manado BARISTAND Laboratory for examination of levels of Nitrite (NO2), Nitrate (NO3), Ammonia (NH3) , and Phosphate (PO4). Based on research data of several water quality parameters measurements and analysis show that temperature (26,17oC), Turbidity (11,20 NTU), pH (5,6), DO (8,31), nitrite (0,04005 mg/l), nitrate (0,705 mg/l), ammonia (0,145 mg/l), and phosphate (1,005 mg/l). These results show that the waters of Mooat Lake is still feasible and meets the water quality standard values to support aquaculture activities. Furthermore, it is strengthened by the analysis of the suitability of the location for the development of aquaculture which shows that the water quality conditions of Mooat Lake are classified as suitable.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the growth rate and survival of saline tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) seeds with fed with different types of commercial feed. The study was conducted at the Aquaculture Technology Laboratory in April – July 2021. The experiment was designed using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments, each with three replications. The treatments included A: Comfeed brand feed, B: Bintang brand feed, C: Turbo Feed brand feed, D: Supra ZT brand feed. The results of the analysis of variance showed that different commercial feeds had a significant effect on absolute weight growth and specific growth, very significant for absolute length growth, but on survival rates had no significant effect. The results of the BNT test on showed absolute weight growth and specific growth showed of treatment B was not significantly different from treatment A but significantly different from treatments C and D. While for absolute length growth, treatment B was significantly different from treatments D, C, and A. Treatment D, C, and A were not significantly different from each other.

Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of using marigold flour (Tegates sp.) and pumpkin flour (Cucurbita moscahata D.) as a source of carotenoids in feed to increase the color brightness of goldfish (Carassius auratus). The method used is an experimental method with a completely randomized design, consisting of four treatments and three replications. The treatment that was tested was the concentration of a mixture of marigold flower flour and pumpkin flour added to the artificial feed formulation, namely: a mixture of marigold flower flour and pumpkin flour 0% (control) (P0), 10% (P1), 20% (P2) and 30% (P3). Research parameters include color quality, carotenoid content, absolute weight growth, absolute length growth, specific growth, feed utilization efficiency (EPP), feed conversion ratio (FCR), survival rate and water quality. Data were analyzed using Anova and continued with Duncan's test. The results showed that the addition of a mixture of marigold flower flour and pumpkin in the feed could increase the brightness of the goldfish body color but did not support optimum growth. The addition of a mixture of 30% marigold flower flour and pumpkin to the feed can improve the color brightness of goldfish better with a carotenoid content of 6.02 mol/g, a Lightness (L*) value of 76.35, a Redness(a*) value of 3.61, the value of Yellowness (b*) of 24.85 and Hue of 81.70.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the optimal density of kale plants as biofilter in an aquaponic system that can trigger the highest growth and survival of tilapia. The experiment was designed in a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 treatments and 3 replications so that there were 9 experimental units. The factor tested was the different density of kale plants as biofilter in the aquaponics system, where treatment A: 6 kale plants/0,24m2, B: 12 kale plants/0,24m2, and  K: without kale plants (as control). This study was conducted for 28 days.  Collected data  included weight, length and number of fish, which were then converted to  absolute growth rate (weight and length) , daily growth rate, survival rate and kale plant growth. Data  were analyzed using ANOVA  and then Least Significance Differences (LSD) for  further analysis.   The results  showed that the different density of  kale plants had no significant effect on absolute growth rate (weight and  length)  and daily growth rate, but had a significant effect on the survival rate of fish. The LSD results  showed that density of 6 kale plants/0,24m2 (A) were not significantly different from that of 12 individuals kale plants/0,24m2 (B), but both treatments were significantly different from the control (K).  The range of ammonia  was between 0.29 – 0.91 mg/l, nitrite 0.55 – 1.06 mg/l, and nitrate 10 - 47 mg/l.
