Abstract

This research aimed to determine the optimal doses of honey addition on the sperm dilution to optimize spermatozoa motility, fertilization and hatchability of Patin Siam  eggs (Pangasius hypophthalmus).  The experimental design used was Complete Random Design (RAL).  Diluent solution consisted of a physiological NaCl 0.9% and honey.  Treatment doses of honey in aqueous diluent sperm tested as treatments were A (0 mL), B (0.2 mL), C (0.4 mL) and D (0.6 mL), each with three replications.  Observations made included spermatozoa motility, fertilization and eggs hatchability.  The research results showed that the addition of honey had a significant influence on motility,  fertilization, and eggs hatchability. This study concluded that the addition of honey in sperm diluent solution with a dose of 0.6 mL of honey in 99.4 mL of NaCl could increase the spermatozoa motility and  fertilization of Patin siam. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the best culture medium for producing maggot (Hermetia illucens) and to determine the production quantity in each different medium.  This research was controlled two times a day at 09:00 a.m. and 16:00 p.m. Cultivation media were prepared from coconut pulp, tofu pulp, rice bran and restaurant wastes. Each medium was weighed as much as one kg and then placed into a culture container. The research used Completely Randomized Design consisting of 4 treatments, each with three replications. The parameters observed consisted of temperature and pH of the media  measured at 07.00 am and 17.00 pm, and maggot production measured on the last day. During the ten days of experiment, the production of maggot in the treatment using restaurant waste media was significantly different as compared to other treatments. This study found that a good medium for the production of maggot was prepared using restaurant waste. Keywords: Hermetia illucens, coconut pulp, restaurant waste

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the best combination of feed on the growth and survival of larval fish catfish (Clarias gariepinus). This study  used completely randomized with six treatments including treatment A: Artemia, B: Tubifex C: Pellet, D:  combination of (50%) Artemia + (50%) Tubifex, E:  combination of (50%) Artemia + (50%) Pellet, and      F:  combination of (50%) Tubifex + (50%) Pellet. Each treatment consisted of three replications. The result showed that the combination of  50% artemia + 50% tubifex could promote the growth length of larvae of 4,003 cm, weight of larval of 0.633 g,  and larval survival was 79%.  This combination was the best combination for the growth and survival of catfish larvae.   Keywords: Combination of feed, Clarias gariepinus, larvae, growth, survival

Abstract

This research was conducted by purposive random sampling method with 3 points. Data were analyzed descriptively by comparing the environmental quality standard based on the Ministry of Environment No. 51. 2004. Results of laboratory analysis was the content of Cadmium (Cd) was still below the allowable threshold. Compared to Cd content of fresh water which was 0.0002 mg/L, the Cd content found in this research was lower that was 0.0001 mg/ L.   Keywords: Kadmium (Cd), Logam berat, Baku Mutu, Pantai Malalayang, RS Prof Kandou.

Abstract

The aim of this study was determine the effect of temperature shock on hatching capability of the catfish eggs and its larval survivals. The study was conducted at the Board of Freshwater Aquaculture (BBAT ) in Tatelu  Dimembe District, North Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi Province. Twelve tanks were set in this experiment. Two hundred (200) eggs were put in each tank with controlled temperature of 25 C, 27 C , 29 C , and 32 ºC. Each temperature was replicated 3 times. The experimental design used in data analysis was completely randomized design (CRD).  The results showed that the treatment temperature showed significant effect on  hatching of  eggs, while the difference in temperature had no effect on the survival rate of catfish larvae.   Keywords:  Temperature shock, eggs, hatching capability, survival rate,  larvae, Clarias gariepinus.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the optimal dose of propolis for male sex reversal in tilapia larvae through mixing in artificial feed. This research was carried out at the Aquaculture Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Sam Ratulangi University. The experimental fish was taken from Board of Freshwater Fisheries Aquaculture at Tatelu. As many as 4,000 individuals fish aging 5 days were acclimatized for 2 days in an aquarium measuring 60 x 40 x 40 cm. After the acclimatization process was terminated, the larvae density was set to 100 per aquarium. Furthermore, the fish were fed with treatment feed previously added with propolis with a dose of A (0 mL/kg of feed) as a control, B (0.9 mL/kg of feed), C (1.8 mL/kg of feed), D (2.7 mL/kg of feed) and t E (3.6 mL/kg of feed). Treatment feed was given to larvae twice a day for 28 days. The results showed that masculinization of tilapia using propolis mixed into artificial feed had a very significant effect on the percentage of male tilapia and survival. In this study treatment C (1.8 mL/kg of feed) and treatment D (2.7 mL/kg of feed) resulted in the highest percentage of male tilapia which was 81.33% and 88.00% respectively. This shows that the administration at 1.8 mL/kg in artificial feed has a very real and effective effect on masculinization. Keywords: Oreochromis niloticus, masculinization, sex reversal, propolis

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to analyze the physical and chemical parameters of waters (temperature, turbidity, pH, dissolved oxygen, nitrate, phosphate, ammonia and BOD) around net cage culture area at Peleloan Village, Minahasa Regency and to determine the suitable culture site supporting optimal growth of fish. water quality was measured at three sites. Temperature, turbidity, and pH were measured in situ while dissolved oxygen, nitrate, phosphate, ammonia and BOD were analised in laboratorium. Research results showed water temperature at all observation sites ranged from 25.5-28.2 0C, turbidity 2.02-3.15 m, pH 6.8 – 8.2, DO 7.41-7.77 mg/L, nitrate 0.3-0.5 mg/L, phosphate 0.00-0.4 mg/L, ammonia 0.13-0.77 mg/L. Based on water quality standard criteria stated in PP No. 82, 2001, temperature, turbidity, pH, DO and nitrate at fish culture area were suitable for floating and stick net cage cultures but ammonia at all sites of observation, phosphate at site I at 0.5 m from the bottom and BOD at site III at 0.5 m from the bottom were exceeding the standard criteria. Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the size of shell length, shell width and total weight of Pinctada margaritifera shells, and water quality parameters for the aquaculture development. Morphometric measurements include: shell length (PC), and shell width (LC), shell weight (BT). The results showed that PC size 8 - 11.99 cm, LC 8 - 9.99 cm and BT 80 - 99.99 gram dominate the Arakan waters  while PC size 6 - 9.99 cm, LC 6 - 7.99 cm and BT 60 - 79.99 gram dominate the Bahoi  waters. The results of water quality measurements in both locations are Bahoi waters, namely: 29-32oC, DO 7-8,5 mg/l, pH 7,8-7,9, salinity, 28-32 ppt, 4,5- 7 meters, 11 cm/sec. While in Arakan waters, the temperature was 30-30,8oC, DO 6,3-6,7 mg/l, pH 7,6-7,7 salinity 30 ppt, brightness 4-5 meter, current velocity 4,5 cm / second. Both locations were feasible for the development of pearl aquacultureKeywords: Morphometric, Pinctada margaritifera, Aquaculture
