Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the physical and chemical parameters of water quality in vanname shrimp culture in Pond PT. Pillar Persada Parigi, Bajo Village, South Minahasa. This research uses direct measurement methods in the field (In situ) and sample analysis in the laboratory. Water quality parameters measured in the field included temperature, degree of acidity (pH), salinity, dissolved oxygen, while ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate was analyzed at the Manado Industrial Research and Standardization Center. Water sampling and in-situ measurements were carried out in 4 ponds selected randomly from the ponds that were temporarily operating at the time of sampling. Based on the results of measurements of several physical and chemical parameters of water quality, both directly in the field (in situ) and the results of laboratory analysis of pond water samples from PT Pillar Persada Parigi, Bajo Village, South Minahasa Regency, a temperature range of 27 - 32˚C, salinity of 36 ppt was obtained. , dissolved oxygen 3.63 - 7.8 ppm, acidity degree (pH) 7.6 - 8.6, ammonia content 1 mg/L, nitrite <0.2757 mg/L, nitrate 5 mg/L, phosphate <0 .0027 – 1 mg/L. All parameters measured were still considered suitable for survival and supporting the growth of the vaname shrimp being cultured Keywords: vaname shrimp, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, nitrate

Abstract

Several previous studies regarding the use of Moringa leaf flour on fish had been carried out fish consumption including catfish, tilapia, and gourami. The objectives of this research were to determine the effect of substitution of Moringa leaf flour at different doses in feed formulation on the relative growth of tilapia and determine which treatment had the highest feed efficiency value. The results showed relative weight growth value for tilapia were obtained in treatment C (83.82%),  daily growth (C) 2.03%, food conversion ratio (FCR) 1.29, and Feed Efficiency 77.01%. Keywords: relative growth, daily growth, feed conversion ratio, feed efficiency value.

Abstract

The black pearl oyster Pinctada margaritifera (Linnaeus, 1758) or black lip pearl oyster is a marine bivalve with important economic value. P. margaritifera is a protandrous hermaphroditic species. Externally it is difficult to differentiate between male and female gonads. This research aimed to determine differences in gonad color and determine the sex of P. margaritifera based on shell size. The test animals used in this research were black pearl mussels P. margaritifera totaling 33 samples taken from Talengen Bay, Sangihe Islands Regency, North Sulawesi. The results of morphometric measurements showed the average shell length was 103.16 mm, where the maximum shell length was 131.61 mm and the minimum was 81.29 mm. The average shell width was 105.65 (max 141.17 mm-min 83.21mm), the average shell thickness was 32.46 mm (max 44.36, min 20.11mm). The gonads were white and slightly yellow in 24 males and yellow in 9 females. P. margaritifera with a shell length of 90-130 mm was found to be female, and most were 110-120 mm in size. Meanwhile, shell lengths <80 mm and 110-130 mm male pearl oysters were still found. Keywords: marine bivalve, growth rate, morphometric, shell length

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the seaweed production in North Sulawesi Province in 2023 and to find out the technical and non-technical factors that affect Eucheuma production in North Sulawesi. Data were collected by a survey through questionnaires, from existing records at related institutions as well as direct interviews with the farmers.  The results showed that the total Eucheuma production in North Sulawesi Province in 2023 only came from the production in North Minahasa Regency, namely Nain Village as much as 473.76 tons,  Nain Satu was 234.36 tons and Mantehage II Tangkasi  was 131.4 tons. Thus, the total seaweed production for North Sulawesi province for 2023 was  839.52 tons. Technical and non-technical factors that influenced production were the lack quality of seaweed seeds, polluted sea waters, unpredictable weather, pests and disease attacks that have not been resolved, lack of adequate cultivation facilities and infrastructure, lack of qualified human resources (HR), limited capital and seaweed prices. Keywords: Seaweed, Nain Induk, Nain Satu, Mantehage II Tangkasi.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to isolate and identify Vibrio spp. bacteria from vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) in PT. Pilar Persada Parigi Bajo Village, South Minahasa Regency. The research was carried out by starting with shrimp sampling from shrimp cultivation locations at PT. Persada Parigi Pillar in Bajo Village, Tatapaan, South Minahasa, North Sulawesi as many as 9 fish from 3 ponds (1 pond took 3 shrimp). The pond was recommended by the pond technician of PT. The Persada Parigi pillar is related to the condition of the pond which is suspected of having Vibrio spp. bacteria that need special attention. The shrimp samples were then taken to the Laboratory alive. During transportation, the samples were put in 3 separate containers equipped with battery aerators, then the identification of Vibrio spp. bacteria was carried out at the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Sam Ratulangi University and at the Manado Fishery Products Quality Control and Safety Quarantine Center. Isolation of Vibrio spp. bacteria using TCBS (Thiosulfate Citrate Bile Sucrose) agar media. The characterization of Vibrio spp. bacteria was carried out by a series of tests, namely gram staining tests (gram negative, positive and bacterial form), main tests (KOH 3%, H₂O₂ and oxidase), Oxidation/Fermentation (O/F), Glucose and Motility Indole Ornithin (MIO). The results of the isolation showed that there were 9 isolates of Vibrio spp. bacteria from 9 samples of vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) from 3 different ponds. The results of bacterial characteristics obtained negative grams, yellow and green colony morphology, bacil/stem cell shape, KOH 3% (-), catalase (+), oxidase (+), O/F (fermentative), indole (+), and motility (+), glucose (+) from the results identified by Vibrio spp. bacteria. Abstract

Microplastic (MP) pollution presents a significant challenge to the sustainability of aquaculture. MPs, originating from various sources such as domestic plastic waste and the degradation of aquaculture equipment, have been detected in aquaculture media, including water and sediment. Cultured organisms like fish, shrimp, and seaweed exhibit MP accumulation, impacting their health and posing risks to human consumers. This study reviews the distribution, ecological impacts, and potential mitigation strategies for MPs in aquaculture environments. Findings reveal that MPs cause bioaccumulation and trophic transfer, leading to physiological disturbances in organisms. Moreover, MPs act as carriers for other harmful pollutants. Mitigation technologies, such as water filtration systems and biodegradable materials, are under development but require further evaluation. Biological approaches utilizing microorganisms for MP degradation offer sustainable solutions. This study recommends integrated management through technological innovation, policy development, and community-based approaches to mitigate MP impacts in aquaculture. These measures are crucial to ensuring food safety and environmental sustainability. Keywords: microplastics, aquaculture, mitigation, environment, sustainability
