Abstract

Indonesia has a geographically rich region with medicinal plants, including Cassia alata. The utilization of this medicinal plant still needs to be improved, including documentation of its use as medicine. Information about the extract of Cassia alata leaves as an anti-diabetes therapy can be conveyed to future generations. This research aims to prove the potential of Cassia alata leaf extract as a hyperglycemia therapy material through a mouse model. The research design uses a pretest-posttest group design. The antidiabetic activity of Cassia alata leaf extract in vivo is determined by the indicator of reducing blood sugar levels in mice with hyperglycemia, supported by quantitative testing of secondary metabolite compounds. The experimental animals used 24 male Balb/c mice induced with 0.75 mg/kgBb alloxan. Measure blood sugar levels in mice with hyperglycemia after treatment with Cassia alata leaf extract at concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, and a positive control using metformin—data analysis using one-way ANOVA correlation analysis. Cassia alata leaf extract is proven to contain alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, triterpenoids, and saponins. The antidiabetic activity is evidenced by an effective reduction in blood sugar levels at a concentration of 50%, where the average data for the reduction in blood sugar levels in hyperglycemic mice is 93 mg/dL. The 50% concentration is proven to have the best antidiabetic effect, supported by a more significant reduction in blood sugar levels than the positive control. The findings of this research are expected to serve as the basis for further development of innovative hyperglycemia therapy products.

Abstract

Germination is a critical phase in seed plants. Germination is vulnerable to drought stress. Apart from external factors, long seed storage can also affect seed viability. The magnetic field is known to positively impact the germination process because it can increase the activity of the α-amylase enzyme. Lumbung Sewu Cantik is a local upland rice variety from Lampung, Indonesia. This study aims to determine the impact of exposure to a magnetic field of 0,2 mT for 11 minutes 44 seconds (M1) in improving the germination of LSC rice seeds given accelerated aging (So) and drought by 20% PEG 6000 (D1). The parameters observed were germination rate index (GRI), mean germination time (MGT), germination index (GI), final germination percentage (FGP), and percentage of abnormal germination (PAG). This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The experimental units consisted of Sn (normal seeds as control), SoD1, SoM1, and SoM1D1. Each treatment was repeated five times. The data obtained were tested for normality, analyzed of variance, and further analyzed with DMRT at the α = 0,05 level. The results showed that the magnetic field could accelerate germination in the SoM1 treatments based on the MGT parameters. The magnetic field also reduced the percentage of abnormal seedlings in the SoM1D1 treatments compared to those without a magnetic field (SoD1 treatments).

Abstract

This study aimed to determine students' written communication skills in writing practicum reports using flashcards. The research was conducted on grade 11th high school students with a simple random sampling technique. The research method used was an experimental method with Posttest-Only Control Group Design. In the experimental group, students were instructed to use flashcards to write their practicum reports, while the control group used conventional methods, writing on paper as usual. Students were then asked about their experience with a questionnaire. Students' reports on flashcards were scored and analyzed. The results showed that using flashcards significantly improved students’ written communication skills in writing practicum reports. This improvement was reflected in comparing post-test results between the experimental and control groups. In addition, students also responded positively to flashcards to improve their practicum report writing skills. The findings of this study contribute to the practical and theoretical understanding of effective teaching methods for writing, especially in the context of practicum reports. This study gives an insight into students' communication skills in writing that can be improved by applying innovative learning strategies.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the achievement of the Independent Curriculum implemented in Biology subject. The research method used is a survey conducted at one of the senior high schools at Lahewa, North Nias, Indonesia. The Independent Curriculum is the latest curriculum targeted by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia to be implemented at every level of education. This curriculum optimizes intracurricular learning content. This is intended so that students can explore concepts and strengthen competencies according to the learning needs and interests of students. Biology lessons in high school as one of the intracurricular lessons are implemented based on the Independent Curriculum. The research instrument used is a measurement of the implementation of Biology learning designed based on the indicators of the Independent Curriculum. The data analysis technique was carried out qualitatively. The results showed that the Independent Curriculum in Biology lessons has been well implemented in high schools with the expectation that Biology teachers must be able to coordinate the learning process optimally. Thus, achieving the Independent Curriculum in Biology lessons must be supported by teacher competence to optimally direct students in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the diversity of macrofungi in the Paciran limestone mining area. This type of research is quantitative descriptive, identifying and describing the macrofungi diversity level in the Paciran limestone mining area. The method used is observation with data collection using a 1x1 meter plot technique and then continued to count the macrofungal species in the plot and analyze it using the Shannon & Wienner (1963) diversity index equation. In addition, the morphological characteristics of each macrofungi were noted and entered into the observation table. The research results showed that 10 species of macrofungi belonging to two divisions, namely Ascomycota and Basidmycota, were identified, totaling 377 individuals. The Ascomycota division has a low level of diversity with a value of 0.6, while the Basidiomycota division has a medium level of diversity with a value of 1.40. The diversity of macrofungi in the Paciran limestone mining area can be used as a contextual learning resource for lower plant botany to provide insight and increase contextual knowledge related to macrofungi diversity for biology education students.
