"SANGKHAKALA" refers to the shell horns that blown regularly to convey certain messages. In accordance with the meaning, this journal expected to become an instrument in the dissemination of archaeological information to the public which is published on an ongoing basis. Berkala Arkeologi Sangkhakala is a peer-reviewed journal published biannual by the Balai Arkeologi Sumatera Utara in May and November. The first edition was published in 1997 and began to be published online in an e-journal form using the Open Journal System tool in 2015. Berkala Arkeologi Sangkhakala aims to publish research papers, reviews and studies covering the disciplines of archeology, anthropology, history, ethnography, and culture in general.

Abstract

AbstractTraditional weaver in Indonesia had been already in clasic time. Some archaeologist evidence like tera decoration/ceramics stamp, relief, inscription, and writings showed was activity for making clothes since in the past. Likewise with Batubara songket the traditional clothes for Malay people, as long of newest time, it grew up and showed from its tools maker, matter, and the design.

Abstract

AbstractTemple attributed to all building of omission of culture Hindu-Buddha, especially religious holy building. As for garden, farm cultivated by the flower, making people feel the ruthless and freshness, return to think clear and free from the mind disquiet so that do not surprise if garden become the important shares of building complex. Not merely complex temple of a period of Hindu-Buddha in just Nusantara, but later also at palace complex (kraton) in Nusantara, latter and also church. Now even also most observance building equipped by the garden arranged natty. Certain birch planted, beside because its practical function also because symbolic role and function.

AbstractNuclear family is the smallest social structure organization in general social habitat nowdays. The social structure organization which according to three factors : sex, age, and livelihood also has been indicated in mesolithic time, based on skeleton findings and buried arcaheological supplies in shells midden, NAD Province. After that time, the explanation of social organization/social structure would been more understood specially for the buried system.

Although that, wares only can be describe all of trade activities with another archaeological records which have the same context. At least wares were found in Kotacina can give a few describe about trade activities in the 12 th – 14 th Century in Kotacina.

AbstractThe finding of a dugout canoe in Sungai Padang, Tebingtinggi add the data of existence means of transportation from time to time coastal area of east Sumatera Island. AbstractBuffalo was an important animal for people with their megalithic tradition living until now. They have been used it, showed by discovering buffalo ornament in megalithic sites. How useful this animal have been made it as an sacred ornament or profane in some traditional houses.
