"SANGKHAKALA" refers to the shell horns that blown regularly to convey certain messages. In accordance with the meaning, this journal expected to become an instrument in the dissemination of archaeological information to the public which is published on an ongoing basis. Berkala Arkeologi Sangkhakala is a peer-reviewed journal published biannual by the Balai Arkeologi Sumatera Utara in May and November. The first edition was published in 1997 and began to be published online in an e-journal form using the Open Journal System tool in 2015. Berkala Arkeologi Sangkhakala aims to publish research papers, reviews and studies covering the disciplines of archeology, anthropology, history, ethnography, and culture in general.

Abstract

AbstractThe dating often carried out through the approach on the basis of morphology and technology of the observed artifacts. While the carbon dating method is generally performed on ecofak samples found in the excavation. Determination of the dating of structure within a site is very helpful to inform the process of past activity. So, also on Hoabinhian site, the structured dating will greatly assist in the effort to understand the process of exploiting the area in the past which is also referred to chronicle events on your site. The dating is one of the methods in an attempt to reconstruct the history. Although the information generated is absolute, but it’s not yet able to disclose all aspects of the activities of the past, it’s only to provide various information that can be better.

Abstract

AbstractVisual data recording is one activity that must be performed on archaeological research as a supporting data description of data obtained. However, not all data can be easily documented. Sometimes, the data obtained are in a small size and must be documented with a micro camera which is not owned by any research institution. Therefore, an alternative method is needed to accommodate the limitation that is owned by the research institution.

Abstract

AbstractThis article studies the problems about phenomenon to the number of mejans (megalitik statue) that founded without head in Regency of Pakpak Bharat, North Sumatera. Through by approach the religion motivation theory, this article try to study those problems pursuant to any kind motivation of existing in the thieves’ mind, which made them dare to steal mystique mejan. The motivations indicated have a link with religion motivation. There are some interesting things found that some of theft case lead mejan. At the end of this article, author want to open anopinion discourse, how to save that mejans so that more taken care and can reduced the risk of stealing mejans.

Abstract

AbstractThis article explores the relationship of information about an archaeology and biblical history. It will be conveyed how archaeological discoveries can explain and confirm that a sequence of events in the history of the Bible. The Bible, the holy book of Christian, is a history book and great truths of Christianity based on the facts disclosed. As an introduction, this paper is not an in depth study of a particular field but rather as an introduction to many areas.

Abstract

AbstractSimangambat temple is an unique temple in Northern Sumatera. The research on the temple has been done throughout 2008 until 2010. It successfully revealed the structure of brick and stone building of the temple. Its result is expected to give an idea of temple architecture and construction technique. It is considering that the architecture and construction of the temple can be associated with the character and relative periodization of the temple building .

AbstractMinangkabau society always strives for a peaceful and prosperous life. Since long time ago, the community is implementing democratic values. These values are reflected in the archaeological remains associated with the activities of deliberation and the tradition that lasted until now. In making decisions for common interests, people tend to give priority to said agreement despite differences of opinion are also valued.

Abstract

AbstractSetiabudi Vihara is a holy building for the people of adherent Tridharma teachings (Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism), but more specifically, the Vihara is known as an offering to the Gods of Kwan Tie Kong. The procedure of worship and layout of space in this vihara followed the teachings of Confucianism; it is reflected from the ornaments that decorate the buildings and architecture.

Abstract

AbstractActually, the presence of museums in Indonesia has been quite a long time. From time to time, the museum has been progressing, both qualitatively and quantitatively. The main purpose of the museum is for fun and learning for the community. But until now, most of the museums in Indonesia have not been able to attract many visitors. In general, the Indonesian people are still as consumers or spectators. Therefore, to attract visitors, the museum should be made as attractive as possible, building, exhibition layout, lighting, equipment room and the attractions.

Abstract

AbstrakŚrīwijaya adalah suatu kerajaan maritim yang pengaruhnya meliputi kawasan yang luas di sekitar Selat Malaka. Kepentingan utama dari kerajaan ini adalah penguasaan jalur pelayaran dan perdagangan yang melalui Selat Malaka. Bagaimanapun, baik sumber sejarah maupun arkeologis mengindikasikan bahwa pengaruh niaga dan politik Śrīwijaya juga meliputi kawasan pedalaman dan pantai barat Sumatera. Hal ini mungkin berkaitan dengan kepentingan Śrīwijaya untuk mengamankan aliran mata dagangan terutama kamper dan kemenyan yang hanya dihasilkan oleh kawasan di baratlaut Danau Toba dan sekitarnya.

Abstract

AbstractThe presence of new data on the observation of archaeological sites on Kompei Island in 2010 could provide variety of data and reinforce the interpretation with respect to the tracking of maritime trade activity on the Kompei Island. Through the formal research, spatial and temporal to which inherent in archaeological data, the data of observation in 2010 combined with the data from various observations will provide another illustration in the searching of maritime trade activities in the East Coast of Northern Sumatera.
