Abstract

The conversion of agricultural land and plantation into an area with high human activity can affect the biodiversity contained in it. The biodiversity of a region can be surveyed and collect in a systematic database to know the wealth of flora and fauna resources within a certain period of time. The aim of this research is to identify and inventory the vegetation database of plant, which can then be used as one of the important information related to the environmental change that happened from time to time following the impact of the growing development expansion. This study was conducted within the campus of the Institut Teknologi Sumatra (ITERA) which is undergoing physical construction in the form of buildings, roads, and some retention basin. Data retrieval was done by direct observation using the cruising method. The observations of each species are documented, identified, recorded and arranged in the collection catalog.

Abstract

Mitigation of structural failure can be based on analyzing the behavioral of the structure by giving a nonlinear dynamic earthquake load of time history. Because Indonesia doesn’t have any data of time history record, it is necessary to match the time history data with the design spectrum response. Gedung E Itera is modeled on reinforced concrete structures with open frame models like as built drawing. Then can be evaluated the structural behavior that is like mass participation, plastic design, displacement, rotation, and base shear with time history load that will be levelling (levelling time history). With levelling the time history load , it can be found the first structural part that collapses and the maximum load that can be retained by the structure for one of the mitigation effort. The analysis uses a nonlinear dynamic time history analysis with the most dominant combination is earthquake combination. The results of this study show structural performance, the location of structural failure, and the maximum load that can be retained by the reinforced concrete structure of gedung E Itera.

Abstract

Nowadays, invisibility efforts by scientists and engineers have focused on building a large broadband, multidirectional cloaking device. The device is usually a cloak that works in macroscopic dimensions and for the entire visible spectrum. Addition with the full-field of light, no new materials, simple infrastructure, and scale easily may be considered an ‘ideal’ cloaking device. This paper report of implementing ray optics cloaking formalism presented previously by Choi and Howell [1] using lenses design for cloaking arbitrarily large, and moving objects such as large vehicle. We apply their formalism using simulation and experiment scheme to general optical systems up to four convex lenses. The results support the information to create optical cloaking prototype for optimizing large vehicle driver’s visibility as alternative solution for decreasing traffic accident in Bandar Lampung.

Abstract

Porosity and permeability of the reservoir rocks can be calculated using digital rock physics. This technique is one of the fastest and effective ways to calculate the value of porosity and permeability based on rock sample images. The samples observed in this paper were gathered from the outcrop of oil-filled sandstone formation. The technology of digital rock physics allowed us to predict the physical properties, mainly porosity and permeability, in the outcrop sandstone samples. The digital image model displayed in the 2D and 3D images and the complexity of pore geometry as well. From the image, we develop the digital simulation to predict the value of porosity and permeability in the 3D samples. By applying this method, we have confirmed that the target area of this research is potential to be a reservoir, which is porous and clean.

Abstract

DNA extraction is a series of processes to separate DNA from other cell components. Extraction is the most crucial early stage in molecular research. There are two methods in DNA extraction: traditional organic extraction and non-organic adoption extraction method. Traditional organic extraction method are used by many laboratories to obtain amount of high-yield DNA. However, in recent years it has been a tendency to adopt non-organic commercial protocols, known as extraction kit. This method was relatively faster, low times-consuming and avoid the toxicity due to phenol use. This study aims to determine the steps of DNA extraction to obtain total DNA from muscle tissue of fish grouper using Extraction Kit for Animal Tissue. The Kit extraction method has an advantages that is the processing time is shorter, simple, non-toxic and high-purity DNA yields. A total of 4 tissue samples from grouper muscle were successfully extracted using an Extraction Kit that was indicated by the visualization of the band on qualitative DNA analysis in 1% agarose gel. Keywords: DNA extraction, extraction kit, high-yield DNA, molecular method

Abstract

In this paper we discuss the dynamics of exchange rate of Euro (EUR) relative to United States dollar (USD). The data is observed from daily data in the period 1 January 2005 to 31 December 2012. In this period of global financial crisis which is affected the global economy. Therefore, an understanding of the exchange rate of EUR relative to USD is required. The Data is presented in the form of a diagram of a candlestick (candle). Statistical analysis on a mean of exchange rate of EUR relative to USD is applied to each monthly candle representation. The mean may vary per candle, which means that the mean as a function of time. A function of mean relative to time so commonly referred to as a moving average, or a trend. The continous of a trend is approached with linear interpolation and polynomial interpolation is based on the mean of the candle every month. The mean and standard deviation of exchange rate of EUR relative to USD generates a probability density function (pdf). A pdf is based on the assumption that the dynamics is normally distributed. The mean is dependent on time is called temporal probability density function (t-pdf). The trend of the dynamics of exchange rate of EUR relative to USD is implicitly represented in the t-pdf. By knowing t-pdf will help investors know the dynamics of the exchange rate of the EUR against the USD. Keywords: dynamics, exchange rate, candlestick, t-pdf
